Hi, I am 25 years old female, a student. I have been feeling very low from past sometime. I get angry at small issues and I do not get over those issues easily. I do not feel like doing anything the whole day, not even able to concentrate on my studies. I am also having sleeping disorders these days. Negative thoughts come into my mind and I pick up fights with people. I talk to friends but it doesn't help me much. I just don't do anything all day, I try to escape the loneliness and these thoughts by sleeping, but I fail, I don't know whats happening. I feel a constant dissatisfaction with my life. Are these signs of depression? What should I do?

Dear lybrate user, from what you have mentioned, it appears that you are feeling sad and unhappy. Your inactivity appears like mild depression but don't term it as" depression" yourself, because depression has to be assessed by the psychiatrist/psycologist with proper assessment techniques. It seems to me that you are not doing, what you would like to do. Just think, why you are doing what you are doing now. Do something which pleases you and not others. It appears that you are angry and/or frustrated. Try to find out the reasons for this anger/frustration and start working on that. May be you have not had a happy childhood and certain things in your childhood are still bothering you. Please understand that the past is over and you have full life ahead of you. Try to do things which you like to do. Have a hobby. Keep company of friends who care for you and who have positive outlook towards life. Do not hesitate to seek help of a counsellor if you think it would help you.

I have high Blood Pressure since 2013. My doctor suggested me Concor 2.5 daily at 8: 00 AM. Someone told me the medicine is not for BP. It is for heart. Kindly suggest.

Concor is for blood pressure. If it is keeping your blood pressure normal and offering no side effects, then keep on taking it. Concor can reduce pulse rate as side effect. So keep track of your pulse per minute. If it goes below 65 per minute, consult your doctor. In india, many non medical people have a habit of commenting on doctors opinion without complete knowledge. So when in doubt ask your doctor, nobody else.

Bone Fracture - Common Types and How They Can be Prevented?

Bone Fracture - Common Types and How They Can be Prevented?

The human body allows for movement through the complex system of bones, muscles and joints. A break in the bone is medically known as a fracture and can be caused by constant stress, pressure or impact. It is common knowledge that with age, the bone strength decreases and incidence of fractures (osteoporotic fracture) increases. Based on the affected bone and impact, different types of fractures are commonly identified as:

  1. Complete: When the breakage of the bone is complete, producing two or more pieces, it is referred to as a complete fracture.
  2. Incomplete: When the breakage is incomplete, where the bone has cracked, but does not break into pieces, it is known as an incomplete fracture.
  3. Another type would be the open or closed fracture:
    • Open fracture: When the skin is exposed and the bone breaks through this exposed skin, it is known as compound or open fracture.
    • Simple or closed fracture: The bone breaks, but the skin continuity is maintained. Again, here are different types including hairline, greenstick, oblique, etc.

What is the reason behind a fracture?
A bone will fracture when force is applied to it that is stronger than the bone itself. A key factor in a bone’s susceptibility to fracturing is age. Both children and older people are prone to bone fractures. Children’s bones are constantly growing and have not reached their full strength. Elderly people have brittle bones with old age and are prone to develop bone diseases, making them susceptible to fractures.

How they are treated?
Splint and pain medications are commonly used. Closed reduction where the fracture is reduced without opening up the tissues and open reduction, where the tissues are opened up are common approaches to managing fractures.

Can they be prevented?
Especially with children and in the elderly, extra precaution should be taken to avoid any kind of injury and fracture.

  1. Develop an exercise routine to strengthen the muscles
  2. Manage weight
  3. Use the right footwear and exercise gear
  4. Watch your medications (avoid sleep inducing ones)
  5. Increase lighting in the room/home to improve clarity of vision for elderly
  6. Make the home/living area fall-proof by reducing clutter, using railing in the bathroom and bedrRhinoplastyoom, using rubber mat, etc.
  7. While a fall may seem inevitable, taking the above steps can help reduce the incidence and severity of a fall, thereby minimizing damage. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

Hello sir. You are slightly over weight. And your life style is sidentary lifestyle. You are always seeing didital screens. These lead to dryness of eyes and computer vision syndrome. This can cause tired eyes. But you feeling sleepy could be due to many reasons like you don't get continuous sound sleep, try to sleep minimum 7-8 hours, could be some vitamin deficiency or calcium or iron deficiency. So get your eyes checked and show to some physician. Start excercising first.

Rare case prolong masturbation will induce erectile problem. In early age simple imagination about opposite sex produce sexual excitment and erection as a day progressess indirect stumuli fail to induce satisfactory erection. Hence go ahead with marriage you will get normal erection with direct stumuli/contact.

Masturbation is a very healthy form of sexual outlet, do not feel guilty about it. Once or twice a day is very much normal. Nearly 99% of men and more than 60% of women masturbate. It starts from adolescence and goes on in some people even till death. The pleasure (orgasm) from masturbation is said to be unique from sexual intercourse. In men, most of the liquid contains only water and some fructose and hormones. Hence it does not drain your energy. Many equate masturbation/ seminal fluid loss to lack of energy, impotency and so on. Many quacks, religious heads and pseudo healers also propagate the idea that masturbation is a disorder/ and wrongful behaviour and instil fear on the mind of innocent men and women (we can see posters in train and bus stand, offering help for this behaviour). Consult a psychiatrist, if you have excessive masturbation guilt or compulsive masturbation. Compulsive masturbation is when a person continues with frequent masturbation neglecting his/ her other work like education, job or social obligations. In fact masturbation reduces the sexual tension and helps focus on task at hand better.
