A month back I ran a 5 km marathon. After the run I had a severe back pain which lasted for a week. Everything was fine after that until the last 2 days in which I'm having similar pains which is causing a lot difficulties while I'm working/sitting in a chair.

Hi please get your serum calcium and vitamin D3 levels done by blood tests. Do hot fomentation, and take adequate rest fir 3 days. Take pain meds also for 3 days. Do back muscles strengthening exercises under a physiotherapist show your blood reports to an orthopedic surgeon who may do further evaluation and management take protein rich nutrition's.Avoid lifting weights best wishes.

For leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

I had terrible pain and stiffness around knee ie, a little above knees and also below the knees of both legs. It was difficult even to sit. My dexa scan result says ostopenia. I was prescribed lubrijoint for one month and am feeling much better. Can I continue for another two months. Pl advise. I cannot take homeopathy as I am taking lot of other halopathy medicines. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Well you are actually confusing two different issues, one is osteopenia which is decrease in density of bone as compared to normal. Other is osteoarthritis of knees for which you have been prescribed lubrijoint. You can continue with lubrijoint but mainstay of management will remain intensive physical therapy, daily brisk walks for 2-3 km per day, adequate calcium and vitamin d intake and maintaining an active and a healthy lifestyle. Keep ice in the area where you have pain/or where the muscle is injured. This is a general strain due to excessive walking or standing and for this you can follow these measures: one keep a pillow right under the knee while sleeping, next is you can keep ice in the painful area for about 5 to 10 minutes. One time you can do hot water fermentation that would help to reduce the muscle strain.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana -- Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Hello lybrate user, arthritis of knee joint is quite common at this age. The management would depend on your symptoms. Firstly, pain would be your major symptom. If you mild pain which is not affecting your daily activities you can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications, painkillers, physiotherapy to improve the muscle strength around your knee joint and increase your range of movement. If pain is not adequately controlled and you still have difficulty in your daily activities then you might want to think of some surgical management. Secondly, if severe stiffness hinders your daily activities and does not improve with physiotherapy exercises then again you might require an earlier surgical intervention. Thirdly, if you already have a severe deformity at the knee joint then again you might benefit with an earlier surgical intervention. I would also advise you certain life style modifications such as weight reduction, avoiding heavy loads on your knees such as climbing stairs, squatting, sitting cross legged. But must continue your regular exercise and walking. If it pains then do it with breaks in-between. Surgical intervention would be undertaken only if you do not respond to above therapy. Hope this helps.

First of all you should take rest for 1-2 days so that your body can fight with underlying infection with its full immunity and start the below medication:- take gelesemium 200, twice daily. Take eupatrium perf 200, 5 drops thrice daily. Take antifebrinum 3x, 2 tabs, thrice daily. Take alfavena malt, 1 tsf, thrice daily. Drink lots of water and take light homemade food like dalia and khichdi, avoid oily, spicy, fried, junk and cold drinks. In case of high uncontrollable fever, don't panic you should do cold sponging to lower down the temperature. If fever does not goes then go for a set of blood tests. Revert me with feedback. Take care of your health. Good day.

Hello don't get upset, as nowadays due to poor lifestyle and lack of exercise low back pain has become very common. But it can be cured by making small changes in lifestyle. 1) start physiotherapy sessions and learn spine exercise 2) do not lift heavy weights. 3) do not sit in 1 position for very long 4) start strengthening exercises for back and core muscles under supervision of skilled physiotherapist do reply for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

My mom had a back pain 2 days ago, We have consulted a local doctor n after giving injection he asked to take an x-ray. In d x-ray report 1. Anterior and lateral periodical osteophytes are seen. 2 reduced L5-S1 DISC space is seen. Is der any serious issue Pls advice should we consult a orthopedic.

There is not a serious issue. Osteophytes r not serious problem. For reduced disc space you should take care of some precautions like avoid forward bending, prolong standing, squatting. And do regular exercise for back strengthening. For acute pain you should apply ice pack locally twice a day for 15 min and some pain relieving gel after ice pack.
