Avoid using your teeth other than chewing food.If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops ,or opening packaging, you are risking your teeth for chiping or breaking.......

I want to remove tartar in my teeth and also I want whitening teeth, please give me the toothpaste name and how to treat my tartar naturally.

Dentist, Delhi
Dear, removing tartar will be possible only by professional dental cleaning. However it can be reduced to an extend by using proper brushing techniques and using specific mouthwash. Few home tips: 1. In a cup of water, add half a cup of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel, 10 drops of lemon essential oil and 4 teaspoons of vegetable glycerine. Mix thoroughly to combine and store the liquid in a suitable container. Scrub your teeth daily with this mixture for tartar removal. 2. Apply the paste of vitamin c rich fruits, such as tomatoes or strawberries to your teeth. Leave for 5 minutes. Rinse off the mouth with a mixture of warm water and baking soda. This helps to remove tartar and kills bacteria in the mouth. It is better if you regularly consume vitamin c rich fruits in your diet. It takes care of your oral health. Whitening can can be achieved only when the tartar is completely removed. Dental office bleach or home bleach can be incorporated to do the same. Thankyou.

Dentist, Mumbai
Hi lybrate-user. Looks like your oral cavity is in bad shape every toothache can be relieved with proper treatment. Gum swelling can be relieved by cleaning which will also make your teeth cleaner and whiter. After the basic treatment you can also go for bleaching and cosmetic treatment to restore your smile.

Here are some tips to help you look after your teeth.

1. Brush at least twice a day.
The best time to brush teeth is after meals. Choose a toothbrush with a small head for better access to back teeth. Soft bristles are kinder on your gums.

2. Use fluoridated toothpaste.
Fluoride helps to harden tooth enamel and reduces your risk of decay.

3. Brush thoroughly.
Tooth brushing should take between two and three minutes.

4. Floss your teeth daily.
Use a slow and gentle sawing motion.

5. Limit acidic drinks like soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices.
Food acids soften tooth material and dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel, causing holes (cavities or caries). In severe cases, teeth may be ‘eaten’ right down to the gum.

6. Limit sugary foods.
Bacteria in dental plaque change sugars into acids.

7. Protect your teeth from injury.
Wear a mouth guard or full-face helmet when playing sports.

8. Try to save a knocked out tooth.
If possible, hold the tooth back in place while you seek immediate dental advice. If this is not possible, wrap the tooth in plastic or place it in milk and seek dental advice immediately.

9. Avoid using your teeth for anything other than chewing food.
If you use them to crack nuts, remove bottle tops or rip open packaging, you risk chipping or even breaking your teeth.

10. See your dentist for regular check-ups.
You should also visit your dentist if you have a dental problem such as a toothache or bleeding gums.

Is root canal better option for 4 year kid, whose one front left side tooth damaged by cavity? Will it affect new tooth coming in next 2-3 year on that area?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

Now a days it is becoming a common practise to perform RCT in small children if the tooth is infected as this can infect other teeth also if not treated.Your Dentist is the better judge to decide this as a physical examination is required to have an ascess to the situation although RCT will not have an impact on eruption of new teeth.

Homeopath, Raebareli
Gargling with warm salt water is an effective way to treat a sore throat. Salt can even help kill the bacteria or virus causing pharyngitis. 1. Mix three teaspoons of salt (preferably sea salt) in two cups of warm water. 2. Gargle with this solution. Do not swallow it. Spit the water out after gargling. 3. Do this several times daily for one to two days.

Hello Lybrate user. Well you can do scaling. But after that there might be some cervical abrasion on some of the teeth. Ask your dentist to check that up properly and treat it if it's necessary.

I am suffering from blood blister on my tongue. Please suggest me medicine n precautions.

Dentist, Vadodara
Blisters could be due to some sharp edges of tooth around tongue. If that is the case I would advice you to get it checked and smoothen the sharp edges from the teeth. It is possible its not a blister at all, in which case it would be helpful to get more information.
