I cannot see clearly up in the hot climate due to the light of sun What should I do.

1..If you're naturally sensitive to light, avoid bright sunlight and other harsh lighting sources. Wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses with ultraviolet (UV) protection. 2.Photochromic lenses are another solution for mild sun sensitivity. These lenses darken automatically outdoors and block 100 percent of the sun's UV rays. 3.For bright sunlight, consider polarized sunglasses. These sun lenses provide extra protection against glare-causing reflections of light from water, sand, snow, concrete roadways and other reflective surfaces.

Hello Doctor, My wife is pregnant (1 month 10 days) and 23 years old. She is suffering from fever from last 3 days and we have consulted with one doctor (Small clinic). The doctor has prescribed following medicines. 1. Auxime (Cefixime 200mg) - Antibiotic table (Daily 2 times) 2. Dolo 650 - Fever Tablet - For every 6 hours3. Folic acid tablets Please suggest whether Antibiotic tablet is harmful for pregnancy or not?

MD(MEDICINE), MBBS
Nephrologist, Chandigarh
You should avoid unnecessary medication during pregnancy unless it is absolutely indicated. I do not understand why she has been put on tab. Cefixime unless she has some localising symptoms suggestive of infection somewhere in the the body. The short febrile illness of 3 days duration looks like viral in nature unless there are some localing signs & symptoms and just give tab paracetamol 500 mg as & when required if fever goes up > 100.5 degree celsius. If the fever still persists more than one week, then consult your physician & get her investigated.

World Blood Donation Day - Why You Must Donate Blood?

MD-Internal Medicine , MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
World Blood Donation Day - Why You Must Donate Blood?

June 14, is celebrated around the world as the World Blood Donor Day every year. The event, established in 2004, helps raise awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products like platelets. This day is observed to thank all the blood donors worldwide for their voluntary, life-saving gift of blood.

Why should you donate blood?
You may not know this but blood donation by just 1% of the population can meet a nation’s requirements for blood. Blood transfusion can save lives and improves health this is a fact that we all know and acknowledge, but many patients requiring transfusion do not get timely access to safe blood, resulting in preventable death.

You would not wish such a death on our near and dear ones, would you?
This is the reason why healthy, voluntary donors like you and us must donate blood regularly. Voluntary, unpaid blood donors are also the backbone of a country’s blood donor base as they are the safest group of donors with the lowest prevalence of blood borne infections like hepatitis and HIV. Low risk populations are people who do not indulge in high-risk activities like unprotected sex, drug use etc. The World Health Organization’s goal is for all countries to obtain their entire blood supplies through voluntary unpaid donors.

Blood transfusion is needed for:

  1. Women with complications during pregnancy, like ectopic pregnancies, also called high-risk pregnancies, and hemorrhage before, during or after childbirth
  2. Anaemic children due to malaria or malnutrition
  3. People with severe trauma due to accidents and natural disasters
  4. Complex medical and surgical procedures like for cancer
  5. Regular blood transfusions for people with conditions such as thalassaemia and sickle cell anemia, a disease where the blood can’t transmit enough oxygen to body cells.
  6. To make products such as clotting factors for people with haemophilia
  7. Fresh blood is needed all the time because blood can be stored for only a limited time before use.

Hence, regular blood donations by an optimum number of blood donors who are healthy are required to ensure that safe blood is available whenever and wherever it is needed.

  • Indeed, blood is the most precious gift that you can give to another person. It’s a gift of life.
  • Your decision to donate your blood can save a life, or even several lives. This can happen if your blood is separated into its components like red blood cells, platelets and plasma. These can be used individually for patients with specific conditions like platelets can be used for treating dengue because this viral infection can damage one’s blood platelets.

Need another reason to donate blood?
Well, you can get a number of health benefits when you donate blood. You will receive a mini physical at the time of blood donation to check your:
• Pulse
• Haemoglobin levels
• Blood pressure
• Body temperature

And contrary to belief, your body replaces the blood lost at the time of a donation effortlessly and without any harm to your system. So donate blood regularly and save lives. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Hi, I'm experiencing hairfall for the past two and a half years. I used many hair oil, but the result wasn't good. Before 8 months I started using coconut oil, it gave me good result. But when winter started again my hair started to fall. And I always keep thinking about my hair which leads to stress. I have dandruff too. My hair is getting thinner. Please suggest me.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Homoeopathic treatment NATRUM MUR 6X ( Dr.reckeweg) chew 4 tabs 3 times a day VENOME SHAMPOO ( BIOVALLEY) ANTIDANDRUFF OIL ( WilmarSchwabe India) apply twice weekly at night, leave overnight Conssume 6-8 glass water daily Exerciseregularily take Nutritious diet Exposure to sunlight is a must Avoid Junk,Fried nd spicy food, cold drinks, ketchups Castor oil: • helps with hair regrowth and hair loss, • makes the hair richer and darker, • prevents split ends, • treats dandruff and dry scalp, • moisturizes the hair and makes it shine, • works in an antifungal and antibacterial way and can prevent problems such as ringworm, and folliculitis. How to apply castor oil It’s best to use castor oil as a hair mask. This is particularly helpful if you’re trying to regrow hair or give it more moist and shine. 1. Castor oil has a thick consistency, so you can mix it with coconut oil, olive oil or jojoba oil in a half and half ratio. This will make the mask easier to distribute throughout your hair. 2. Use your fingers or a brush and start applying it onto your scalp with circular motions. This gentle massage increases the blood circulation, rejuvenates the hair, and stimulates hair growth. 3. Part hair into sections and apply the oil (mixture) to each section until all your hair is covered properly and evenly. 4. Wrap your hair in a warm towel (you can also use a shower cap) and leave it for two to eight hours. You can also leave it over night. This will give the oil enough time to penetrate the follicles and hydrate your scalp and hair thoroughly. 5. Wash your hair as usual using shampoo and conditioner. Make sure you rinse all the oil out of your hair. How often should you use castor oil? This depends on your objective and type of hair. If your aim is to treat hair loss, you will need to do it at least twice weekly, but even better if you can do it three or four times per week for several weeks. For split ends and increased shine, you can use the oil as a conditioner once weekly. Be careful not to use too much of it (a pea-sized amount should do) or you can end up with an over-oily scalp. For best results use unrefined castor oil, as it contains more nutrients and healing properties.

My name is shiny and I am 30 years old. I want to loose my belly fat. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
The best way to get a flat stomach is to try high intensity cardio. This is because it burns a larger number of calories than low intensity cardio. Playing sports such as football, basketball, cricket, tennis and other sports is also helpful in promoting weight loss. You should perform cardio exercises each day for 60 minutes. Brisk walking is considered an effective cardio workout for those who suffer from joint problems, as it does not place much stress on the joints, compared to other cardio exercises such as running or cycling.

Hi lybrate-user. Your bmi (your body mass index) is 17.7 which is below normal i. E 18.5-24.9. For developing your body size perfectly you may perform the following 6 exercises regularly: pushups, squats, lunges, calf raises, cruches and triceps dips. You may first start with 5 minutes/day and slowly increase it to half hour/day. The extra muscle will speed up your metabolism and so you will need to consume more calories which will enhance your weight. Drink at least 12 glasses of water (3.7 litres) per day. Eat protein rich food like lean meat, fish, cheese, tofu, pulses, legumes, sprouts, soya products, beans, lentils, dairy products like curd, yogurt and paneer, eggs and nuts. These steps of exercise along with proper nutrition would increase your bmi and at the same time help you in improving your body size and shape. If you need any further clarification, please feel free to contact me.

Ulcers in the mouth may result from irregular sleep and diet habits. Malnutrition also is a cause. Genetic factors also contribute which result in cycles of ulcers round the year. Eat balanced diet. Take any vitamin supplements for a month. Gargle your mouth with warm salt water whenever you have ulcers.
