Causes and Symptoms of Folliculitis

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology And Venerology And Leprosy (DDVL), DNB (Dermatology), MNAMS
Dermatologist, Delhi
Causes and Symptoms of Folliculitis

Folliculitis is an ordinary dermatological condition which causes inflammation of hair follicles of the skin. This condition, which occurs due to both bacterial and fungal infections, causes small red or white pimples to form around the hair follicles. The infection, if left untreated, can spread and turn into rough, coarse sores which may take a long time to heal.

The Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is responsible for causing the infection, which leads to this commonly occurring condition. In some cases, folliculitis can be also caused by viruses and fungi which had perhaps penetrated the ingrown hairs causing subsequent inflammation. This condition is categorized and diagnosed as a superficial or deep infection depending on the amount of hair follicles involved.

Causes:

  • Friction caused by shaving or tight - fitting clothes
  • Heat and sweat, due to prolonged exposure to the sun
  • Skin conditions like acne
  • Tightly wrapped bandages or dressings on the skin

Symptoms:

  • Clusters of tiny red or white bumps in and around the hair follicles
  • Reddened and inflamed skin
  • Itchy skin and rashes
  • Pus-filled blisters that may crust and later break
  • Swelling on the skin

Risk Factors:

Anyone, whether young or old, may develop folliculitis. But, there are certain factors that increase the risks of the condition. The following are some of them:

  • Conditions like HIV or AIDS that reduces the immunity in your body
  • A pre-existing condition of acne or dermatitis
  • Being obese
  • Medications and ointments with side effects
  • Improper shaving

Many a times, people ignore this condition, presuming that it will heal with time. But if left untreated, complications such as large itchy patches of skin, increased swelling and heightened inflammation of hair follicles may occur.

Start walking. According to one Harvard study, just 30 minutes of walking a day was linked with a 41% drop in risk for ED. Other research suggests that moderate exercise can help restore sexual performance in obese middle-aged men with ED. Eat right. In the Massachusetts Male Aging Study, eating a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and fish — with fewer red and processed meat and refined grains — decreased the likelihood of ED. Another tip: a chronic deficiency in vitamin B12 may contribute to erectile dysfunction. A daily multivitamin and fortified foods are the best bets for those who absorb B12 poorly, including many older adults. Pay attention to your vascular health. High blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and high triglycerides can all damage arteries in the heart (causing heart attack), in the brain (causing stroke), and leading to the penis (causing ED). Low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and an expanding waistline also contribute. Check with your doctor to find out whether your vascular system — and thus your heart, brain, and penis — is in good shape or needs a tune-up through lifestyle changes and, if necessary, medications. Size matters, so get slim and stay slim. A trim waistline is one good defense — a man with a 42-inch waist is 50% more likely to have ED than one with a 32-inch waist. Getting to a healthy weight and staying there is another good strategy for avoiding or fixing ED. Obesity raises risks for vascular disease and diabetes, two major causes of ED. And excess fat interferes with several hormones that may be part of the problem as well. Move a muscle, but we're not talking about your biceps. A strong pelvic floor enhances rigidity during erections and helps keep blood from leaving the penis by pressing on a key vein. In a British trial, three months of twice-daily sets of Kegel exercises (which strengthen these muscles), combined with biofeedback and advice on lifestyle changes — quitting smoking, losing weight, limiting alcohol — worked far better than just advice on lifestyle changes.

If your root canal treated teeth are in good condition then you need not to worry. If there are missing teeth then you can go for implants which is permanent solution.

You are doing everything good. You should relax and enjoy life as it is in the present moment. Please accept the future as it comes even though it's your right to plan and do your best. Do not waste your time thinking about the end result because it's not in your hands. In case of height it depends mainly on a genetic factor which each one of us inherit from the parents. To reach that growth potential one has to support it with good nutrition, exercise, and proper sleep ( 6-8 hrs everyday ) and keep the mind cool by relaxing. So learn some relaxation techniques or yoga ( pranayama and meditation) as that can help the body to integrate all the systems and help you reach your potential growth. You need not sleep more than 8 hrs a day as it does not serve any purpose. Over sleeping and over thinking may in fact slow you down. After having done the best, and learning to make some corrections as and when needed, you now have to simply move on and work on your priorities and goals. All the best.

Changes in Menstruation after Miscarriage, Abortion. ... Of these changes, many women are concerned as to when the menstrual cycle will return to a normal state. The periods may be irregular, heavy or light, or may not have started as yet (amenorrhea). Clots, period pain and PMS are other common symptoms reported by women. This is why women naturally go through menopause and stop having their periods after their normal reproductive years. For many women who are of reproductive age, low estrogen can cause missed or irregular periods. In fact, amenorrhea in young women is one of the best clinical indicators for estrogen deficiency. Don't freak out, there are more reasons than just being pregnant for a missed period. Have you been going through a lot of stress lately? That can cause a late or missed period. As well as extreme exercise, weight loss or weight gain, eating disorders, or it could be your body still working out your cycle.
