Hi its my hubby's niece she is 4 years old has lymphoma, one cancer tumor frm brain was operated already another one grew for which a new magnetic treatment was given, now she has another hodgkin at her throat part which is suppressing her food and wind pipe. How to proceed.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user chemotherapy is the answer. Since the tumor was already removed earlier and has recurred. Any residual disease remaining after 3 cycles can be followed by radiation therapy followed again by chemotherapy to prevent further recurrence.

Mera dost kabhi bhi saraf aur cigrette nahi pita hai. Usko blood cancer kis liye huaa. Aur koi reasons aur solution do plz.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear cigarette and sharab are not necessarily the cause of blood cancer. There are many more reasons of getting blood cancer the chief of which is genetic followed by some professional exposures, followed by many more causes like viral infections, exposure to dyes and chemicals, working or getting exposed to radiations and so on.

Dear, there is always a chance. It is better to stop it if you have not done so. Though there is no direct association of getting cancer with smoking but the coincidence is very high. Truly

6 months ago, I had a colon cancer surgery. After seeing the MSI report, doctor is advised me chemotherapy is not required. After my surgery I have a routine 3 months checkup, after my surgery I had 2 CEA tests where it showed 0.0 ng/ml. Today I took my CEA test, the third one after my surgery and showed 0.8 ng/ml. Could you please explain this? Thanks and regards. Ramanathan.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, the history you are giving, it means you had very early stage of cancer which was completely resected out. Also there was no abdominal lymph node involvement. In such no chemotherapy is required but timely suprvision is needed, you should consider that you are cured from this trouble after surgery.

Hi my aunt is suffering from overeat cancer and the tumor size is 12x11x12 doesn't it can be treated by surgical method or radiation methods. She have pain lot.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, ovarian cancers are mostly treated by surgery. If surgery is not possible you use chemotherapy to understage the tumor after which the surgery becomes easy which is to be done in any case. Radiation therapy has a limited role. Once the tumor size is reduced the pain will also go which is essentially due to compression of vital organs.

Hi Borne sarcom treatment given to 23 old male+5 chemo+5 radiation given. Now doctors asked to do operation so we hesitate due to risk factors so we decided not to do operation. Now doctors say to again start chemo. So we r confused whether chemo will be good or starting ayurvedic medicine will be good. And what r other risk of chemotherapy vs ayurvedic. CT/Scan, mri are done. PLEASE GIVE VALUABLE ADVICE OR prescription TO US. Thank you.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, sarcoma is a fast growing tumor in spite of chemotherapy and radiotherapy recurrence is a rule. If after surgery there is no spread anywhere in the body surgery should be done and diseased part completely removed with enough normal surrounding tissue. Spread to lungs is common. Only chemotherapy is time pass. Ayurvedic success is not established and is again time pass.

I am a 65 year old female and had a radical mastectomy, as there were traces of cancer which has now spread to the liver etc. Do I have a chance without chemotherapy or radiation? Diet and other health care possibility?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, if the liver was involved it becomes a stage 4 cancer. Since local disease has been removed by radical mastectomy you need some form of treatment for metastasis. We should know the other parameters of the biopsy like hormonal status. If positive you will need convenient chemo or hormone therapy.

My mom was suffering from GLIOMA or lymphoma .we took a safe side and went for radio therapy before biopsy .radiotherapy is a treatment of lymphoma .but she is now totally unconscious after 5 radio therapies. We had radiotherapy till 1 st of this month. After radiotherapy her creatinine is 5 and urea is 173. After solving the nephro problems can we go for neuro surgery after biopsy?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, At the outset treating with radiotherapy without biopsy is totally wrong. May be she is unconscious because of high urea. If the nephro problem is settled she needs to be worked up for proper diagnosis after which proper treatment can be planned.

My dad is suffering from lung cancer he is going under chemotherapy but his haemoglobin level is not rising. What should we do?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, after cancer chemotherapy hemoglobin and blood count is likely to go down. If it is severely down then blood transfusion is indicated. I hope he must be already on blood forming and stimulating agents. If not they can be used on weekly or fortnightly or monthly basis. Your doctor will advise you. Secondly chemotherapy should be suspended till there is regeneration of hemoglobin. Truly,

Hello Dr. Can my wife take cervical cancer vaccine during breastfeeding. My son is 10 months old now and she will turn 30 by next year. We heard that vaccine to b taken before 30 years. Pls recommend?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, as such there is no harm in having cervical cancer vaccine, but why are you in so much hurry. You have to take such precaution unless there is severe indication or there are severe predisposing factors for cervical cancer formation. It is not a strict indication that cancer vaccine should be taken before 30 yrs. It can be taken at any age, but at the age of 30 cervix is more exposed to the insults, you can vaccinate your wife at your convenience.

Hi, my mother is 56 year old, has breast cancer metasted to bone. She has undergone chemotherapy. Now she is suffering with severe pain in legs and backpain. We consulted neurologist, orthopedic and and oncologist who gives her chemo. oncologist says its disc problem, not related to cancer, but she is not getting relief from medication given by neurologist or orthopedic doctor.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, if oncologist has told you that it is not related to cancer, he may be right because bone metastasis makes the disease as stage iv which is very advanced. I hope you have got pet scan done which will confirm if she has bone metastasis. I will recommend bone calcifying treatment for her which should give her relief.
