Myopia - Most Common Signs That Indicate It!

Myopia - Most Common Signs That Indicate It!

What Is Myopia (Nearsightedness)?

Myopia is a common refractive error of the eye that makes it difficult to focus on far away objects. People who are nearsighted will see objects close to them clearly, while those further away appear blurry. Myopia is natural. An overall longer shape of the eye usually causes myopia, so it is a naturally occurring visual problem that cannot be prevented. Nearsightedness tends to run in families, but you don't need to have a myopic parent to develop it. Myopia begins at an early age and worsens in the teenage years, but generally stabilizes in adulthood.

Here are the most common signs and symptoms of myopia:

  1. Objects far away, like a chalkboard or road signs, appear blurry
  2. Persistent need to squint or close eyelids to see clearly
  3. Headaches due to eyestrain
  4. Difficulty seeing while driving a vehicle, especially at night (night myopia)
  5. Need to sit closer to the television, movie screen or the front of the classroom
  6. Holding books very close while reading
  7. Not able to notice distant objects

Causes of Myopia

Nearsightedness happens when your eye is longer than normal, or, less often, when your cornea is too curved. It’s a problem in the focusing mechanism of the eyes. However, the exact cause of myopia is not known. Research about myopia supports two key risk factors:

  1. Family history. If one or both parents are nearsighted, the chance of their children developing it increases.
  2. Working up close. Myopia may be helped along by how a person uses their eyes. Intense detail work, long hours in front of a computer or reading can also increase the chances of developing myopia.

Treatment Options for Myopia (Nearsightedness)

When treating myopia, the goal is to help your eyes focus on far away objects. The most common way to achieve this is through

  1. Corrective glasses
  2. Contact lenses
  3. Refractive eye surgery, such as LASIK, is available for adults and those with moderate to high levels of nearsightedness

Adults who have developed cataracts may also have their myopia corrected with an intraocular lens (IOL) that replaces the human lens during cataract surgery. The most appropriate treatment depends on your eyes and your lifestyle. Nearsightedness can also be corrected as part of the cataract surgery procedure.

  1. Contacts and Glasses: Eyeglasses and contact lenses can correct myopia. However, they cannot stop the eye from growing longer or cure the irregular curve of the cornea that causes your blurry vision.
  2. Surgery: Surgery can decrease or eliminate dependency on eyeglasses and contact lenses. LASIK surgery is the most common type of surgery to correct myopia.
  3. ICL (intraocular collamer lenses) or phakic lensesIn adults with cataracts, is an option for those myopic patients who are not suitable for lasik surgery due to either less corneal thickness or very high myopia.
  4. Orthokeratology: A new type of treatment which offers an alternate solutions to people who are suffering from myopia. This is also known as Ortho-K. As a part of this procedure a person has to wear specialized lens overnight, to correct the vision for the next day. Orthokeratology is a process that uses specially designed GP contact lenses to temporarily reshape the contour of the cornea to reduce myopia (nearsightedness). In addition to the benefit of lens-free daytime vision, orthokeratology is starting to be appreciated for its ability to slow the progression of myopia. A number of published clinical studies have found that orthokeratology lens designs inhibit the growth of the eye's axial length, which determines the degree of myopia.

I think you need a bio purification of your blood. For that you need to see an ayurveda doctor. If it is possible you also get a consultation of an ayurvedic shalakya tantra (eye specialist) dr.sreekant in sreedhareeyam ,koothattukulam, kerala may be a good choise I guess. Better be hurry for consultation because it is about the eye sight.

Hello Lybrate user, to have good eyesight, eat foods rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, lutein and beta carotene as they help repair the eyes, such as sweet potatoes, butter, papaya, blueberries, apricot and grapes. Get enough rest, since sleep allows overworked eye muscles to relax completely. Don't stay engaged in one activity for long. Take regular breaks just for 5-10 minutes to rest your eyes. Stay hydrated. Whenever  you have a few extra minutes, fill your mouth with water and then splash water with eyes wide open. This will leave you feeling refreshed, too. Do relaxation exercises. Place your hands together palm to palm and rub them together briskly creating heat. Place them over your eyes and imagine a relaxing place. Focus on an object that's at least 20 feet away, for 20 seconds, every 20 minutes. You'll be surprised at how better your eyes feel. Don't stare at gadgets for too long. Lower the brightness level of your computer screen and phone as it reduces strain. "Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counter-clockwise. Also, after a long day, place cooling cucumber slices on your eyelids as it helps reduce pressure on the eyes. Don't smoke. It has been linked to an increased risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, cataract, and optic nerve damage.

You should go for a culture and sensitivity examination of conjunctival discharge and the use a proper antibiotic. Sometimes it is also difficult to exclude a viral conjunctivitis ,which may need to be treated with a mild steroid under the supervision of an ophthalmologist.

Eye sight Here is a good protocol that I follow to improve eyesight for children successfully: - stop watching TV, too close to it, especially if the screen is large - no cell phone (the light from the screen and RF radiation oxidizes them and is very damaging to the eyes). Laptop and tablets only if needed. - Calc Phos 30, every other day, four pellets in the morning to improve calcium assimilation. Children need more calcium and this is frequently the underlying cause. You can make it every 4th day after 3 or 4 doses. Give Fish Oil, if it completely agrees. If there is any discomfort after the tablet, do not continue. If they agree, continue for a few months. Please report after 2 months. For adults, the original protocol or even simply, Ruta 6 and Calc Phos 3xalternately helps. Advise to take Physostigma 30 daily one dose early in the morning and Ruta 10M weekly one dose i.e. Every sunday and stop other medicine on this da5y. Ask me in private so dat we can discuss in better manner and also you wil improve Also we can change d medicine.

5 Facts You Need To Know About Eye Donation

5 Facts You Need To Know About Eye Donation

If you’ve ever played Blind Man’s Buff you know how helpless it can feel to be unable to see. While some people are born blind, others lose sight as a result of health issues, accidents etc. Imagine how a person would feel to be able to see something for the first time or to regain their sight?

Every human being with sight can choose to donate their eyes after their death and gift another person vision. When it comes to eye donation, there is no restriction on the person’s age or overall health. Even a person who has had surgery on their eyes can choose to donate them as long as the cornea is unaffected. It is not only noble but the thought of being able to give some a chance to see the world with your eyes can give you immense joy.

However, just a thought is not enough, there are few other facts to be kept in mind before going for eye donation:

  1. Eyes need to be donated within 6 hours of a person’s death: For your eyes to be viable for a donation they must be harvested within 6 hours of death. Thus, if you choose to be a donor, it is important for you to inform your family and friends of this decision. Eye donation can also be authorized by the deceased’s next of kin.
  2. Donation does not cost money: There are no costs involved in donating your eyes. Profiting by buying and selling human organs and tissues is a criminal at and can be punishable by law.
  3. The whole eye is not transplanted: The most common cause of blindness is a damaged or diseased cornea. Thus, only this area is transplanted to enable a person to see. The cornea is a thin, transparent flap located in front of the colored part of the eye. Thus, donating eyes does not disfigure the deceased person in any way.
  4. Even people who wear spectacles can donate their eyes: Short sightedness or far sightedness are conditions caused by irregularities with the lens inside the eye and do not affect the cornea. Thus these conditions do not interfere with their ability to donate their eyes after death. Even people who have been operated upon for cataracts, retinal detachments or glaucoma may choose to donate their eyes. It is even possible for a person who has received a corneal transplant to donate their eyes as long as the cornea is healthy and clear.
  5. Corneal Transplants have a high success rate: There is no blood supply to the cornea and hence there is a very low risk of the body rejecting a donor cornea. In many cases, this rejection can be treated and suppressed with medication.

Though over 30,000 corneas are donated and transplanted each year, there is still a long waiting list at eye banks. Thus, it time you take a pledge to make someone else's life beautiful. Do not think twice about donating your eyes and encourage people around you to do so as well.
