Ringworm - Causes And Treatment

Ringworm is a skin condition that is caused by certain kinds of fungi. It causes severe itching and is mainly found around the scalp and feet. This contagious skin condition can also occur as athlete's foot. The symptoms include red, itchy and scaly patches on the affected areas. These patches may also develop blisters and develop crusted red edges, giving it the appearance of a ring. These patches are usually raised or defined. There are many myths and facts surrounding ringworm. Let us find out more about them.

  • Causes: It is a common myth that this skin condition is caused by a worm. This is not true. This fungal skin infection is caused by fungi known as dermatophytes, which can cause a crusty and red patch on the skin. Ringworm is actually the name given to a class of skin ailments and infections caused on the scalp, feet and other parts of the body.
  • Treatment: Another common myth is that this skin infection will clear up on its own. This is not true either. One will have to start treatment of the condition with the help of proper diagnosis, which can be done by a skin specialist or dermatologist. Not treating this condition on time with topical ointments can lead to a spread of the condition where it can affect other parts of the body. This condition can also lead to other symptoms like hair loss. It can also become a permanent issue if not treated on time and with proper medical intervention.
  • Over the Counter Medication: Many people think that using over the counter antifungal creams can help in treating this condition effectively. This is part myth and part fact. One will have to visit the doctor in case the condition does not clear up on time with the use of such topical ointments. The creams should typically be prescribed by a skin specialist after due diagnosis of the problem so that it suits your individual symptoms and condition. Further, these creams should usually be prescribed for a period of at least four to six weeks so that the treatment is effective.
  • Contagious: It is a myth that ringworm is not a contagious skin disease. The fact is that this skin ailment is a highly contagious one, that can happen even when there is contact with an infected animal. There are 50% chances of contracting this condition with mere touch that can happen with an infected animal or person.
  • Barber's Itch: This is not a form of lice, as many people believe. This is a form of ringworm that can be found in the beard with symptoms like itching as well as swelling.

According to your height and weight your BMI is underweight for normal BMI you follow some tips. 1) take heavy breakfast. 2) Do some cardio exercise. 3) Added cream in your coffee or tea. 4) Take healthy fruits and vegetables. 5) Take more meals and small plates. 6) Don't take stress. 7) Get enough sleep. 8) Take high fiber. 9) Take healthy fats and oils. 10) Use coconut oil for meal preparation. Either the escitalopram dose needs to be increased or the type of medication changed. In 6 months usually people achieve 90 to 100% improvement unless it is a resistant depression. Kindly discuss with your psychiatrist, if no solution, take a 2nd opinion. All the best.

Get thyroid profile done get back here with details of your periods if low or delayed, get them corrected get ultrasound abdomen done. There can be other reasons till your reports are ready, take minimum salt and sugar take more of vitamin C through lemons and oranges and other citrus fruits take apple cider vinegar etc simple exercises are walks baby must be keeping you on toes take adequate rest while you are dieting like others, means not starving but eating healthy take lots of seasonal vegetables and fruits drink lots of water get back here with reports for more guidance shedding few kgs is more difficult than going for a strict diet and exercise regime with a baby to look after, it's better that you eat normal food with minimum fats and carbs but more of simple proteins like toned milk and curds.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your sleep duration is too less, to focus well & concentrate on your studies you can take half to one hour naps in between your schedule to make up for the deficit - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables, whole grains, protein containing foods like milk & milk products, lentils, pulses, beans, soya products, sprouts, nuts - have plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water for proper hydration - also have snacks in between to provide you continuous energy - also get up & walk whenever you get time so that it will give you a break & keep you alert.

My mother gets angry for very small reason on someone and creates big scene, gets angry start abusing that person and his family. Cries, says she will leave everything and it last for several days that to for all those days we have to beg her, heard many nonsense things which does not even exists. Her anger and voice is so big that we all gets scare and worried about her. If it was other son he would have left her much earlier my who is such sweet person her life is becoming mess she cried most of time and I feel that I am reason for her problems. Is there medicine I can give my mother so that she can stop such things I feel like she will get mad or destroy other people life. Such episodes happen at least once in 15 days. I can't even tell her to come to see Dr. as she think she is right and other people are bad.

Hi lybrate-user, seems like a mania episode with paranoia but one needs the entire history of the person before one can be diagnosed. Also, it is better if a psychiatrist runs some tests for diagnosis and medication. Pls try to convince her to see a counsellor or psychologist to talk about her problems, sometimes people feel misunderstood as well. Seek family therapy for support, that way she will be willing to seek help. Hope it helps. Good luck!
