Irregular Heartbeat - Symptoms You Should Not Ignore!

Irregular Heartbeat - Symptoms You Should Not Ignore!

Atrial fibrillation is a form of irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia, which you may experience due to a problem in the electrical system of the heart. Such a problem causes the upper parts of the heart or the atria to fibrillate. Due to this quivering, the normal rhythm between the lower parts of the heart and the atria gets disrupted. The ventricles are likely to beat faster in an irregular rhythm. This is a severe condition where the blood may get collected in the atria; this could lead to the formation of blood clots. These clots can block the blood flow and lead to a stroke.

Causes
Several conditions cause strain and damage to the heart. These include the following:

  1. High blood pressure or hypertension
  2. Heart attack
  3. Valvular diseases
  4. Coronary artery disease
  5. Medical problems like heart failure, lung diseases, high level of thyroid or pneumonia
  6. Heart surgeries
  7. Excess consumption of alcohol

Symptoms
The primary symptoms of atrial fibrillation include the following:

  1. Light-headedness and dizziness
  2. Shortness of breath
  3. Feeling weak and fatigued
  4. Feeling as if the heart is pounding, fluttering or racing (known as palpitations)
  5. Feeling that the beating of the heart is uneven
  6. Chest pain and fainting

In many cases of atrial fibrillation, the symptoms may be absent.

Diagnosis
Conducting several tests, physical examinations and an analysis of your health history is the first step towards diagnosing atrial fibrillation. An electrocardiogram (ECG) needs to be carried out for the detection of this condition. This test is performed for checking problems regarding the electrical activity of the heart. Other laboratory tests and an echocardiogram maybe required as well. An echocardiogram helps in observing the pumping function of the heart and to check whether the valves have been damaged.

Treatment
The treatment options for atrial fibrillation depend on the cause, symptoms and the risks of getting a stroke. Several medicines are used for treatment along with other methods. They are as follows:

  1. Blood thinning medicines for the prevention of a stroke.
  2. Heart rate control medicines which will prevent irregular beating of the heart.
  3. Rhythm control medicines for restoring the heart’s rhythm to normal.
  4. A process known as cardioversion may be used to bring the heartbeat to a normal rhythm. This can be carried out by medicines or an electric shock therapy known as electrical cardioversion.
  5. In case of severe symptoms, ablation may be carried out where the affected areas of the heart are destroyed by the creation of a scar tissue.

For the best diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, you must consult a doctor as soon as you start experiencing the symptoms of the condition. A doctor will prescribe all that you need for an effective treatment.

Dear, I don't know your age. Because BP is related to age. Pulse 70-80/mint is normal average 72/mint. 110/mint sometimes happened. When you are tensed or measure after running or walking or outdoor plying or any steroid intake. So measure your pulse and BP after getting preparation. If not improve! Then come. Don't worry. Thank you.

Dear Lybrateuser, - It is good to know that you have controlled your bp with diet & exercise, you have to continue with the same regimen & also keep monitoring your bp at least once a week - the weakness & heaviness in head could be due to the rigourous exercise, so before exercise have a snack like a fruit or yogurt or nuts, have it half to one hour before your exercise & also have one after it - drink plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water or more depending on the sweating due to exercise & the environment temperature - also include a protein rich food like eggs, non veg, milk & milk products, legumes, nuts in each of your meals & also as a snack in between meals, it will supply you with energy throughout the day & keep you agile - avoid salty foods & snacks.

Sir I want to know the side effects of eating whey protien powder And is it good for high cholesterol.

Sir I want to know the side effects of eating whey protien powder And is it good for high cholesterol.
Whey protein is from milk. Like other animal proteins it's composition matches human proteins, so it is called first class protein. Protein is essential food, you can eat it. BUT excess cannot be stored in body. Excess beyond 50 gm protein daily means there will be extra work for liver to break it into urea and triglycerides. Liver will make extra cholesterol to ship these triglycerides into blood, and your kidney will work extra to throw out the extra urea from body. Please discuss your diet for more information, or discuss with an intelligent biochemistry graduate. Avoid discussing science with your friends who are general experts.

Ayurvedic Hypertension Treatment The Ayurvedic line of treatment for hypertension is aimed at identifying the root cause of the condition and then administering herbs that can eradicate the problem from its roots. For this to happen, it is imperative that digestion is improved and the digestive fire is strengthened. Secondly, the toxins that have already accumulated in the heart channels have to be eliminated. And lastly, mind relaxation techniques – including meditation, yoga and pranayama – are recommended to ensure that the mind remains calm and stable. Diet & Lifestyle Advice Avoid meat, eggs, table salt, pickles, tea and coffee. Avoid smoking as it increases heart rate. Increase use of garlic, lemon, parsley, Indian gooseberry (amla), watermelon, grapefruit, skim milk and cottage cheese. Regular exercise is one of the best ways to lower blood pressure; brisk walking, jogging, swimming and athletics are good options. Laughter is the best medicine, as it relieves stress and anxiety, which are the main causes of high blood pressure in today’s lifestyle. Home Remedies 1) Make a juice of 3-4 garlic cloves, 10-12 basil leaves, and one fourth cup of of wheat grass. Have once a day. 2) Mix 1 teaspoon of onion juice with an equal amount of honey. Take once a day for 1 week. Upon noticing improvement, continue for several more days. 3) Mix 1 gm of garlic paste with a glass of buttermilk. Drink this buttermilk twice a day. 4) Grind 10 gm of roasted watermelon seeds. Add the powder to 2 cups of water and boil for about 15 minutes. Strain the liquid and consume daily in the morning and evening.
