PCOD is a state of hypothalamic pituitary ovarian dysfunction. Besides menstural irregularities it also causes excessive weight gain, acne, facial hair growth and fertility issues. It is managed by medicine, diet and exercise.

My wife had her period last time on 29-jan-2015, she is 42 and i'm 50. A pregnancy test carried out on 15-04-2015 resulted negative. In her last periods she had to take primolute n. Is she pregnant?

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
We never fully rely on urine pregnancy test. Clinical examination and investigation are best modes. Also according to her age she is nearing her menopause so it might be due to that also. In any case you need to see your gynaec. Taking primolut n may disturb the cycle, that can also be one of the cause.

My first baby age is 25 months. I am pregnant at 32 weeks. First baby was c section. Now I have posterior placenta with low lying 3. 1 cm. Also cephalic presentation. If any chances to normal delivery? what I will do now for that?

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
I do not advise my patients in such scenarios for normal delivery. It is because you have not one but two high risk factors. First is, you conceived earlier, we advise 3 years gap for delivery after cs. It helps in scar healing. Second you placenta is loww lying, there are chances of bleeding not only in normal labour but also in cs. Be alert be safe.

I have two daughters and want a son now, but am unwilling to adopt sex determination or abortion. Please advise.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Sex determination is illegal in india according to pcpndt act. Also abortion purely on the basis of sex selection is not permissible. Save girl child. Say no to sex determination. There are lot many people who may guarantee you sex selection through various means but its all a myth. All of female eggs are x. And male eggs are x and y. When xx its a girl and when xy its a boy. So its matter of pure luck and chance. No one is at fault.

I went usg on 18-04-2015, but did not found any thing. Lmp 17-02-2015, i sure test kit showing positive. Kindly guide.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
First of all the kit is not a confirmatory test for pregnancy at all times. Sometimes it may give false positive or negative results. You need to repeat the test. Secondly there is beta hcg level for pregnancy confirmation. Its a blood test. Third if these two tests are positive then see your gynaec and get an ultrasound done from a reliable center. Fourth even if its negative you still need to see your gynaec as she will rule out other pathology and give you medicine for withdrawal bleeding.

I am 26 years old. I had a laproscopy for ectopic pregancy. What measures should be taken if I want to get pregant. I was scared whether the next pregancy also with effect the like the first one.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Ectopic pregnancy usually occurs when the fallopian tube which connects the ovaries to uterus gets blocked or is diseased. You can try for pregnancy after 6 months of rest. There are definetly chances of normal pregnancy but risk of next ectopic cannot be fully ruled out. Its a matter of chance.

My wife pregnent last 6 months and his hemoglobin is 8. Any problem in normal delivery

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)
Gynaecologist, Delhi
Anaemia in pregnancy is a high risk state. Your wife is having moderate anaemia. She needs active intervention now so that by the time she reaches her expected date of deliver she has at least hb of 10 gm percent. Discuss with your gynaec.

MBBS, DGO, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)

You are very severely anaemic. Ideally you should have blood transfusion. Definetly bt is not free from complications but at present you and your baby both are in a risky state and bt is the best option available for u.
