Is body ache common in woman above 60 years? How can it be cured?

MBBS
General Physician
Ask Free Question
Dear friend, body ache is indeed very common in ladies after they achieve menopause. The reason is primarily deficiency of calcium. It could be a lot of other factors, depending on the individual case like pre-existing medical conditions eg diabetes, hypertension etc. The good news is no lady needs to suffer from constant body ache, pain in the legs, backache and so on, because simple treatments are available.

I just don't enjoy the things I used to, and I don't feel much like visiting friends or family. Is this part of aging?

Dear sir, I gather you are a diabetic under medication. Metformin does lead to weight loss. I need to see your blood sugar levels and hba1c to explore the possibility of taking you off metformin. This should lead to gain in weight. Also we need to work out a dietary schedule for you that includes high intake of proteins. Will also need other report like kft. Please do discuss in detail with your physician or feel free to consult me. Thanks.

Is memory loss always a part of aging? how much loss is considered normal?

MBBS
General Physician
Ask Free Question
Memory loss should not happen in normal ageing. With increasing age, as our other body organs tend to have reduced function, similarly brain functions also become slow. Hence, some amount of slowness in recalling things is normal and to be expected. However, inability to recognise faces, forgetting ways well known earlier etc mean significant memory loss and a cause to this has to be found out after a clinical examination and investigations. Thanks.

My mother in law aging 73 years has bp and diabetes since very long and has been taking medicine regularly for the same. Last week, she started feeling weak and cramps in legs. 8 days ago, she consulted a physician for the same, e checked the bp and it was 238/110. The doctor has given lasix inj immediately and advised to take lots of fluids and there will be frequent urination after the injection. Within 1.5 hrs of taking that injection she started vomiting. It continued for a day and she became very weak though we have been giving her electoral regularly. Her bp was fluctuating from 190 to 220 for 2 days and she collapsed on 3rd day having seizures. We have taken her to the hospital immediately and the next day it was diagnosed as PRES. Sodium levels were dropped to 97. So the have given sodium for 2 days. She is in ICU now, are the vitals are showing good but still she did not get consciousness. She is able to open her eyes from last 2 days but not looking straight at us neither recognizing or responding to anyone. Doctors are saying it will take time to recover but till now there are no signs of improvement what should we do? What is the general recovery time for this case. What are the improvements we can expect and the timelines? what are the other impacts post recovery? please advise, Thanks a lot!

Dear govind, we first need to get your eyesight checked by an eye doctor. Assuming, there is no problem there, you might be stressed out. I need to get a complete history from you to advise. Take care.
