Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)
Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)

Hi,

I am Dt. Diksha Gulati, Dietitian/Nutritionist. Today I will talk about PCOD. One in every woman is not affected by this disease. The major reason for this disease is insulin resistance or endocrine dysfunction. It is a lifestyle disorder. The major side-effect of the disease is uncontrolled weight gain. The simple low-fat diet plan will not work for this problem. So, I will talk about the food which a woman should include in her diet. First, you need to take low GI food i.e. legumes, lentils, beans and whole wheat bran, wheat pasta, non-starchy vegetables. Why not high GI food? Because high GI food increases your insulin level and leads to weight gain which causes hormonal imbalance. Next is healthy fats. Not all fats are harmful and unhealthy for us. Good fats and essential fatty acids are for maintaining cells and helps in removing toxins from our body. They also promote weight management and hormonal balance. They also play a major role in the fertility diet for a PCOD moment. So, we all know that the woman suffering from PCOD, also suffers from infertility and they have a problem in conceiving.

So, healthy fats help them to promote their hormonal balance and conceiving such as avocados, seeds, olive oil, canola oil. and oily fishes like salmon. The next set of healthy food I would like to talk about is fruit. We all know fruits are very healthy. We should include fruits in our diet because it includes nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and fibre. We should not exclude them completely from our diet. We should eat apple, pear, peaches. Moving on to the next but not the least, colored vegetables and green leafy vegetables. Bright color vegetables do not just make an appetizing salad but they are powerfully rich in minerals and vitamins. They help in maintaining the oxidative stress in women suffering from PCOD. So, the bright-colored vegetables like bell pepper, yellow and red vegetables, eggplant, should be included in our diet. Next is a green leafy vegetable. They have maximum nutrient content compare to any fruit. We should eat kale, spinach because they are very rich in iron, potassium, magnesium, vitamin-D, K, B2, B3, B5, B6 and they help in maintaining sugar. They promote good metabolism rate and helps in maintaining thyroid function, hormonal balance and fertility. If you have any query, you can contact me through Lybrate.

Thank You
