Burning Foot Cause And Treatment

Burning Foot Cause And Treatment

Burning foot pain is a common complaint, usually as a result of damage to the nerves of the foot or leg. It may develop due to an injury or medical condition either of which can cause compression of the nerves.

Our nerves are the structures that carry messages to and from the brain. They tell our muscles when and how to work and are responsible for sensation including pressure and temperature. Damage to the nerves affects how these signals are transmitted.

Burning type symptoms may be constant or come and go, vary in intensity and be accompanied by other sensations such as pins and needles or numbness. It all depends on what is causing the problem.

Causes of burning foot pain

Accurate diagnosis of burning foot pain is vital to ensure appropriate treatment is started as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

Here we will look at the most common causes of burning pain in feet, how they present, what causes them and how they are treated.

1) neuropathy

What is it: peripheral neuropathy is caused by damage to the nerves in the leg or foot, anywhere along their path from the spine down to the feet. It is the most common cause of burning pain in feet.

Causes: various medical conditions e. g. Diabetes, injury e. g. Fractures, infections e. g. Shingles or medication. In approximately 30% of cases the cause is unknown.

Symptoms: burning foot pain often accompanied by weakness, altered sensation e. g. Pins and needles ornumbness, altered balance and co-ordination. It tends to affect both feet at the same time. Symptoms may come and go or get progressively worse.

Treatment: treatment will vary depending on the specific cause of the peripheral neuropathy.

2) morton’s neuroma

What is it: thickening of the soft tissues surrounding one of the nerves in your foot.

Causes: anything which places pressure on the foot such as abnormal foot position, repetitive high-impact activities e. g. Running or poor fitting footwear e. g. Narrow shoes or high heels

Symptoms: the most classic symptom is that it feels like you are standing on a pebble. This may also be associated with burning foot pain in the ball of your foot and toes and numbness.

Treatment: rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medication, good-fitting shoes (preferably wide and flat), orthotics, injections, surgery.

3) peripheral vascular disease (pvd)

What is it: obstruction of the large arteries of the extremities (i. E. Those not around the heart or brain) which limits blood flow(also known as peripheral artery diseasepad).

Causes: atherosclerosis (thickening of the artery wall), stenosis (narrowing of the artery) or a blood clot. Prevalance increases with age.

Symptoms: burning foot pain especially when walking, weakness, muscle cramp, sores or ulcers, changes in skin colour (usually blue/purple), decreased hair and nail growth. May affect one or both feet. Symptoms usually get worse with activity and improve with rest.

Treatment: treatment aims to control the symptoms and stop progression of the disease. It usually involves modifying your lifestyle such as regular exercise, stopping smoking and a healthy diet, treatment of associated conditions such as diabetes, medication and in some cases surgery.

4) metatarsalgia

What is it: irritation and inflammation of the metatarsal foot bones and surrounding soft tissues

Causes: overuse (e. G. Lots of walking/running), repetitive stress, muscles weakness and tightness, poor-fitting footwear, abnormal foot position e. G. Bunions, stress fractures, gout

Symptoms: burning foot pain in the ball of the foot, most commonly under the big toe, worse with standing or walking. Tends to come on gradually over time rather than suddenly.

Treatment: rest, ice, exercises, orthotics e. g. Metatarsal pads, medic

Vitiligo And Leucoderma - How Homeopathy Can Help In Treating Them?

MD (Homoeopathy), DHMS
Homeopath, Delhi
Vitiligo And Leucoderma - How Homeopathy Can Help In Treating Them?

The main pigment responsible for the hair and skin color is melanin. Melanocytes are the cells involved in the formation of melanin. Vitiligo is a dermatological condition (depigmentation) characterized by white spots or patches that appear in the body. Lack or absence of melanin is often responsible for the appearance of the white patches. Improper functioning or destruction of the melanocytes may interfere with the cell's ability to produce melanin. The condition can also affect your hair, scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes, resulting in their premature graying or whitening.

Vitiligo can be localized (only one or very few body parts are affected), generalized (affecting many body parts) or segmented (the condition affects only one side of the body). An autoimmune condition such as Diabetes (Type-1) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis may trigger the destruction of the melanocytes. Vitiligo may also be a hereditary condition. In some cases, stress or exposure to harmful chemicals may be responsible for the destruction of the melanocytes.

While many people confuse vitiligo with leucoderma, there is a small difference between the two. Like vitiligo, the white watches in leucoderma appear due to the destruction of the melanocytes. However, the destruction of the melanocytes in the case of leucoderma may result from an accident, a cut, burn or tear.

When it comes to the treatment, many people prefer homeopathy over conventional treatments and medications. Being natural with negligible or no side effects are the main USP of homeopathic treatment. People with vitiligo and leucoderma have benefitted immensely from the treatment. The treatment may not provide you with immediate results, but it is worth your time and patience. Most of the homeopathic medicines activate the melanocytes. This activation triggers the formation of the melanin, thereby resulting in re-pigmentation.

The following homeopathic medicines are very effective against vitiligo and leucoderma.

  1. Silicea 30: Silicea 30 is helpful for people with a sensitive skin that appears waxy and pale. In such patients, the patches or spots are not typically white but slightly rose-colored. There is extensive sweating of the hands and feet. The fingertips also appear cracked with brittle nails.
  2. Arsenic Album: In some patients with vitiligo or leucoderma, the skin may appear dry and rough. In addition to the white patches, a person may complain of exhaustion and asthma (not in all patients). The person may show signs of extreme restlessness and anxiety. They freak out over cleanliness and neatness. Such patients benefit immensely from Arsenic Album.
  3. Calcarea Carb is used to treat vitiligo where the patches appear milky white in color. There may be a weakness in the bones as well.
  4. Sepia: Sepia is used when people with vitiligo distant themselves from their families and loved ones.
  5. Nitric Acid 30 is used in the case of the white spots appearing at the mouth, nipples, nose, eyes, penis, vulva (mucous junctions).

Also, Sulfur, Psoralea Coryl 3X, Staphysagria, Borax, are equally helpful in treating vitiligo and leucoderma. To play it safe, use the medicines only after consulting a specialist. Self-medication may not be a wise idea. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

MD - Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy

Skin Problems - Can Dandruff Be The Reason?

Dandruff or seborrhea refers to the flaky condition of your skin or scalp caused primarily due to dryness. It is a very common problem for young adults and middle aged people but can happen to any person regardless of age. Dandruff itself being an embarrassing problem, can also sometimes lead to other skin problems.

The following are a few skin problems that can crop up due to dandruff-

  1. Can cause pimple: If dandruff or the white flakes fall on your T-zone region very often, then it may lead to the break out of pimples on your skin.
  2. May result in pigmentation: The pimples which can happen due to dandruff can further lead to the problem of pigmentation. This condition leads to the appearance of unwanted black spots all over your face.
  3. Trigger eczema: Dandruff makes skin problems like eczema and psoriasis even worse. Eczema and psoriasis which causes itching of the skin can get severe due to dandruff.
  4. Rashes are also a possibility: Facial rashes can also develop due to dandruff. Often areas around the eyebrows, nose and ears get affected. Sometimes, in case of men, beard rashes also pop up.
  5. Chest rashes: Dandruff often falls all over your body. This can lead to the problem of chest rashes. This condition results in the appearance of red spots all around your chest region.

Dandruff can be a very distressing problem. If your skin type is oily, dandruff can make conditions far worse. Dandruff is such a problem that cannot be completely cured but can only be controlled. So, it is highly advisable to take preventive measures as soon as it is detected to avoid further problems. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Derobin should never have been used on face. Consult a dermatologist. If the scars are fresh some creams and procedures might help. Kindly spread awareness to the people around you about the use of derobin and it's side effects. Hope you get rid of your scars.
