Is taking Apple cider vinegar beneficial for management of b.p, diabetes and weight? Has it any effect on antiaging?
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. All those benefits claimed are not proven by any standard clinical trials. Those are more of an anecdotal things. So it is difficult to give any positive opinion. Thanks.

Male Infertility Cause Of Hormonal Problems

Sexologist Clinic
Sexologist, Faridabad
Male Infertility Cause Of Hormonal Problems

A small percentage of male infertility is caused by hormonal problems.  The hypothalamus-pituitary endocrine system regulates the chain of hormonal events that enables testes to produce and effectively disseminate sperm.  Several things can go wrong with the hypothalamus-pituitary endocrine system:
· The brain can fail to release gonadotrophic-releasing hormone (GnRH) properly.  GnRH stimulates the hormonal pathway that causes testosterone synthesis and sperm production. A disruption in GnRH release leads to a lack of testosterone and a cessation in sperm production.

· The pituitary can fail to produce enough lutenizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) to stimulate the testes and testosterone/sperm production.  LH and FSH are intermediates in the hormonal pathway responsible for testosterone and sperm production.
· The testes’ Leydig cells may not produce testosterone in response to LH stimulation.
· A male may produce other hormones and chemical compounds which interfere with the sex-hormone balance.

Dear lybrate-user, insulin deficiency and insulin ineffectiveness leads to deposition of fats in liver and hence you see sonography reports showing fatty liver in thin diabetics too. On top of this if you consume alcohol it's like adding salt to injury. Please avoid it as much as possible. Lantus is good but needs dose adjustment. You'll be surely healthy for lifetime if you follow healthy habits.

Diabetes - Ayurvedic Treatment For It!

Diabetes - Ayurvedic Treatment For It!

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder which is characterized by high blood sugar levels in the body. This occurs when the glucose in the body is not converted into energy due to the impaired functioning of insulin in the body. Insulin is a hormone in the body produced by the pancreas which processes sugar in the body. Impaired functioning of the insulin leads to a rise in blood sugar levels, thus leading to diabetes.

Symptoms-

The symptoms of diabetes differ from person to person, depending on how high one’s blood sugar levels are. Diabetes exhibits various symptoms such as frequent urges to urinate, extreme hunger, rapid weight loss and irritability. Fatigue, blurred-vision and increased thirst are some other common symptoms as well. Diabetes also slows down the healing process of any sore or injury in the body.

Causes-

The cause of diabetes is linked to improper functioning of insulin. There are four types of diabetes and each comes with its own set of causes:

Type 1 Diabetes-

In Type 1 diabetes, the immune system of the body starts to attack the healthy pancreatic cells which produce insulin. This reduces the insulin production in the body, causing a rise in the blood sugar levels.

Type 2 Diabetes and Pre-diabetes-

The causes for Pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes are very similar. In both the cases, the body starts becoming resistant to insulin, and the normal production of insulin cannot make up for this. This leads to accumulation of sugar in the blood, leading to diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes-

During pregnancy, a woman’s body produces hormones which play a major role in sustaining the pregnancy to a full term. However, these hormones tend to affect the functioning of insulin, leading to a rise in blood sugar.

Ayurvedic Treatment For Balancing Blood Sugar Level-

Ayurvedic treatments to regulate blood sugar aim to get your blood sugar levels under control and improve your overall health. As they are made from natural ingredients, these remedies do not have any side-effects unlike conventional treatments. The Ayurvedic remedies are:

  1. Diet: Maintaining a healthy diet is very important to get blood sugar under control. Avoid eating simple sugars as they spike blood sugar levels; instead of opting for fiber and complex carbohydrates such as whole grains and vegetables.

  2. Exercise: Regular exercise helps in keeping blood sugar in check, as it burns calories. You can opt for cardiovascular or weight training to burn calories and keep your metabolic rate elevated. A high metabolic rate means good amount of calories burned by the body at rest.

  3. Herbs: There are certain herbs that you can consume (in different forms) to control diabetes. Herbs such as ‘neem’ and ‘fenugreek’ (methi) seeds, if incorporated in the daily diet in prescribed dosages, can be beneficial in getting your blood sugar in check. Turmeric is another herb which has anti-inflammatory properties that can treat this condition by reducing body resistance to insulin and increasing insulin production by the pancreas. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question.

I have very low vitamin d and increased uric acid and slightly increased thyroid. I came to know this last week. From that time I am taking medicine. What should I have to eat or drink and what I dont.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day.Take tab. Bencid 500 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos or tab. Naprosyn 500 mg once a day or sos for pain in joints.

My mother 54 years old and her height is 5fts and weight is 50 kg, she has done a thyroid test recently (T3, T4normal but TSH-15. She have done a test before 3 months (T3, T4normal but TSH-9). So TSH increasing slightly. Is it a thyroid problem or not. If not what the reason to increasing TSH. If it is a thyroid problem, please suggest a proper medication. She have not any major symptoms but she feels a mild pain in her legs and feet. Her blood pressure is 70-115.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Increasing TSh is clearly suggestive of having hypothyroidism. This needs to be treated with adequate dose of levothyroxine. Dosage is decided on the basis of her weight, height, T4 & TSH levels. Few things to remember are: Prescribed dose of thyroxine should be taken early morning and nothing to be eaten or taken as a drink for 1 to 1 and half hours. Avoid soy beans, soy containing products. Consume a great deal of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Avoid bakery items and foods made from maida. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
