Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your earlier glucose levels showed that you were in a pre-diabetic stage. In this situation by adapting a modified lifestyle one can prevent progression to diabetes or postpone it. It is good to see that you have been able to reverse the trend. You will have to continue the same, so that you remain fit and free from any further problem. There is no way to predict what may happen in future. If you remain free from diabetes for a long time then you will be able to maintain a good healthy life. Thanks.

Is cheese good for diabetic patient. What is the benifit in consuming cheese. Which kind of cheese is really good?

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Bangalore
Cheese has a very low glycemic index and has minimal impact on blood sugar values in a person with diabetes. It is a great option for a snack and pairs well with carbohydrate containing foods to blunt their ability to raise blood sugar. But choose low-fat varieties.

If left untreated, hypothyroidism can progress and cause a multitude of complications. Understanding the symptoms of hypothyroidism and getting regular screenings to ensure an early diagnosis will prevent the onset of the complications listed below. Birth defects if you are pregnant and have an untreated thyroid disorder, your child may have a higher risk of having birth defects than babies born to healthy mothers. Babies born to women with untreated thyroid disorders may have significant mental and physical development issues because thyroid hormones are vital for brain development. Fortunately, if these problems are addressed shortly after the birth, the child may experience healthy development. An abbreviated thyroid function test is part of the newborn screen. This usually includes a panel of blood tests performed on a newborn to exclude diseases. Goiter when your thyroid over exerts itself in an effort to produce an adequate amount of hormones, the excessive stimulation may cause the thyroid glan.

Can you eat fruits when you are trying to loose weight? I currently have a fruit smoothie for breakfast, half an apple, one chiku, some mango, papaya, two dates, 2 table spoons of yoghurt, is this too many calories and sugar?

If the smoothie doesn't contain extra sugar then it's ok. But it is always better to have the fruit than its juice.

Hi, once consult your Endocrinologist because there's no need to take medication thyronorm 25 mcg now. Thyroid hormones disturbances is due to mainly because of STRESS. When you suppress your emotions like worries anger then your hormones production stopped it's mainly because of your family tension or financial or office Tensions. If you take everything Emotionally then Thyroid hormones disturbances starts. Other reasons are hereditary factors, food habbits sleep deprivation irregular periods other hormones disturbances like PCOD estrogen progesterone FSH LH hormones disturbances. So once consult a doctor they will give you medication thyronorm 25 mcg. If you want permanent solution go for a good homeopathy doctor they can give you constitutional medication for permanent results.

My wife age is 26 years and an year back when she consulted a skin doctor for hair fall, we realized that she was hypothyroid and her TSH level was 8.5 at that time and she has multiple other vitamin deficiencies and started treatment for all these and 6 months back even PCOD problem started and we have started treatment for this as well from a gynecologist and the thyroid treatment is being taken from an endocrinologist She was initially given thyroxine dose of 50 mg and for first 6 months thyroid was in control, but from last 4 months, her thyroid levels were moving up and down, not sure if this is because of PCOD treatment being taken in parallel or because of hormonal changes 2 Months back her thyroid levels went negative (hyperthyroid) and doctor suggested to decrease the thyroxine dose from 50 to 25 mg and because the dose has been reduced, menstrual problems started and from last 2 months she hasn't got her period and spotting is appearing almost every alternate day and when we got tested the thyroid level yesterday, now the TSH level has bumped up to 18 and free T4 was around 0.62 and now the doctor was suggesting to increase the dose to 62 mg and come and meet after a couple of months. Now we are completely frustrated because how can we get to know whether thyroid values are increasing or decreasing, so that accordingly dose can be adjusted before it has gotten worse, she is doing yoga every day, she quit coffee / tea, she is eating leafy vegetables every alternate day, she is taking thyroxine medicine on time every day, her weight is according to her weight (5-5 height and 60 kg weight, she doesn't eat non veg and doesn't smoke or drink. She is very disturbed and often crying as we want to try for a baby when the health condition is stabilised, but because of this thyroid she has become weak and lost interest on her. When thyroid was not detected, the only problem she has was hair fall and as soon as we started medication, PCOD problem started, irregular menstrual problem started started etc etc, I still wonder that we shouldn't have started external medication and instead would have focused on curing it naturally by exercising and by following a healthy diet, I strongly feel, since we started medication, it was used to external medication and stopped it's functioning. Now we want to give homeopathy a try, is it wise to do so or how should we go forward?

Hello Rajiv don't get upset tell your wife to do yoga daily, the menstrual abnormalities are due to thyroid n she has to avoid certain food items like cabbage, turnip etc as they are strictly prohibited in thyroid, take iron n calcium supplement n seasonal fruit. you can also opt for Ayurvedic medicines as they have good results. n most important thing tell her not to take any kind of stress as it will only aggravate the things. you can ask for further information
