After quiting any habits, withdrawals symptoms usually occurs like ulcers and all. Because of smoking the mucosa ( underlying soft tissue ) of chhek is burnt results in white lessions called sub mucous fibriosis which in turn causes burning sensations while eating. But as you have left smoking 2 years back these ulcers can't be withdrawal symptom hense its some other factor causing ulcers which can be identified only by clinical examinations. Please visit any dentist specially Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon for further investigations....

Hello everyone. I'm actually suffering with dry mouth from so many months now. I'm actually done with diabetes test, vitamin c tablets, electrolyte test, intravenous fluids. Nothing worked and fine with diabetes and electrolyte test. My doctor suggested me Betadine povidone iodine 2% gargle mouth wash. Please tell me how to use it. Can I use it night after brushing my teeth? Will it wear my teeth if I brushed 30 minutes later after using it?

Dry mouth, or xerostomia (zeer-o-STOE-me-uh), refers to a condition in which the salivary glands in your mouth don't make enough saliva to keep your mouth wet. Dry mouth is often due to the side effect of certain medications or aging issues or as a result of radiation therapy for cancer. Less often, dry mouth may be caused by a condition that directly affects the salivary glands. Saliva helps prevent tooth decay by neutralizing acids produced by bacteria, limiting bacterial growth and washing away food particles. Saliva also enhances your ability to taste and makes it easier to chew and swallow. In addition, enzymes in saliva aid in digestion. Decreased saliva and dry mouth can range from being merely a nuisance to something that has a major impact on your general health and the health of your teeth and gums, as well as your appetite and enjoyment of food. Treatment for dry mouth depends on the cause. Reatment Your treatment depends on the cause of your dry mouth. Your doctor or dentist may: Change medications that cause dry mouth. If your doctor believes medication to be the cause, he or she may adjust your dosage or switch you to another medication that doesn't cause a dry mouth. Recommend products to moisturize your mouth. These can include prescription or over-the-counter mouth rinses, artificial saliva or moisturizers to lubricate your mouth. Mouthwashes designed for dry mouth, especially ones with xylitol, can be effective, such as Biotene Dry Mouth Oral Rinse or Act Dry Mouth Mouthwash, which also offer protection against tooth decay. If you have severe dry mouth, your doctor or dentist may: Prescribe medication that stimulates saliva. Your doctor may prescribe pilocarpine (Salagen) or cevimeline (Evoxac) to stimulate saliva production. Protect your teeth. To prevent cavities, your dentist might fit you for fluoride trays, which you fill with fluoride and wear over your teeth at night. Your dentist may also recommend weekly use of a chlorhexidine rinse to control cavities.

The pain may be due to the reason that the cavity is near to close the pulp or nerve of the tooth, see the dentist again as that tooth may need a root canal filling.

Hello, I had discoloration in my tongue for which my doctor prescribed iodine. I did not follow instructions. I gargled the iodine thinking that was the correct way to use it. Now my mouth is purple. My tongue is purple and my gums too. Am I in danger? How can I remove it? I think its gentian iodine violet solution.

You need to see your dentist as soon as possible and tell everything about your present problem. There is nothing to be worried about as the stains of iodine are temporary and will go in a couple of days.

My 3.6 yrs son tooth fell down a year ago and did not grow again, when will the tooth re-grow?

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Milk teeth usually fall at the age of 6 years onwards. Starting with the middle 2 front lower teeth followed by upper middle 2 front teeth and so on. At the age of 3.6 yrs if the teeth have fallen out needs to be seen why and normally permanent teeth start coming at 6 to 7 years of age. Depending on which tooth had fallen off and what the reason is. A treatment would be necessary.
