Lower your cholesterol when you snack and keep your blood sugar stable with this spread

2 cups of leftover beans or lentils
1 stalk of a green onion: finely chopped
2 stalks of celery: finely chopped
    Some parsley: finely chopped
    1 tbs lemon juice
    Sea salt to taste
1/4 cup roasted sesame seeds (or any other seed)

1.) make sure the beans do not have too much water (so if it is a dal, keep some water to blend since we are making a paste.

2.) you can use a fork to mash the ingredients together or put it in a blender to mix it well.

3.) use it on breads or rotis or crackers

1.) all legumes and beans: legumes (peanuts, soy products), beans (chowli, bengal gram, etc.) are good sources of protein. Soy milk is an excellent source of protein so is tofu which is fermented soybean. Avoid consuming protein powders as they are too concentrated and do not assimilate and digest easily.

2.) grains: all grains especially amaranth (rajgeera) and quinoa are higher in protein content than others.

3.) all green and yellow vegetables help the synthesis of protein in the liver, which is very important especially for weight loss.

4.) good quality fermented foods: these are easily digested as they have been broken down already by good bacteria, and are also rich in protein.

5.) nuts and seeds are concentrated forms of both proteins and fats. These include flax, pumpkin, sunflower, walnuts and almonds.

6.) spirulina (easily available online in india) is rich in trace minerals, chlorophyll, and is the highest source of concentrated protein.

Here are a few guidelines you can incorporate into your lifestyle to help you lose weight faster.

1.) begin each morning with a green smoothie. This will greatly help to detox your system.
    Recipe for green smoothie:
Handful leaves each of pudina, celery, parsley (you can use any 3 green leaves of your choice)
Put it in a blender and blend along with juice of half a lime, little rock salt to taste and water how much you desire (1 and a half to 2 cups).

2.) consume fruits half an hour before meals.

3.) consume brown rice instead of white, polished rice. Brown rice is rich in fibre and boosts your metabolism.

4.) avoid wheat and dairy products.
Wheat contains gluten which slows down your digestion. Milk contains caesin which again slows down your digestion thus making it difficult to lose weight.

5.) consume at least 4-5 cups of green tea a day. This will help to speed up your metabolism leading to breakdown of fats.

6.) do aerobic exercises and make brisk walking a part of your daily routine. This will further help in boosting the metabolism.

"let food be thy medicine and not medicine be thy food" - hippocrates

This quote is over centuries old and even at that time, the father of modern medicine (allopathy) realized the importance of healthy eating. I think we all know the benefits of eating healthy. Glowin skin, healthy hair, optimal weight. And one can just go on about the benefits. But what exactly constitutes" healthy eating?

A plant based diet is wholesome and nutritious and is closest to our mother earth and nature. A way of living which is in sync with nature and all its goodness, is the best possible gift you can give to yourself.

Eating greens, beans, legumes, nuts, fruits and seeds (flax, sunflower, sesame, etc.) will boost your immune system.

Beginning your day with a green smoothie is like gifting your body a luxurious detox each day. Consuming less of dairy will do your intestines good and help maintain your body at an alkaline level.

Consuming brown rice (which is rich in fibre) instead of white rice will help you maintain a slim waistline.

Doing aerobic exercises and brisk walking helps to boost your metabolism by keeping your heart pumping. This is the best anti-aging skin formula!

Spending time with yourself to know the real you is from where change happens. Change happens from within.

"within you, lies the answer to wholeness" - denise
