Hi doctor! I am 21 year old female .i have been having acne problem since the last 3 months .i never had this problem...
Hi lybrate-userthanks for using Lybrate as you discuss ed regarding your problem above that is acne and its link to lactose intolerance so firstly I cleared you that lactose intolerance found since birth but as such you said you are drinking milk from childhood so this problem is not related to milk consuming. For your acne problem I will suggest you, firsr you check which skin type you are i, e oily, dry, combination of both. According to your skin type choose any mild face wash, clean your fash with face wash twice daily. And oftenly with water so to avoid dust accumulation of face. Drink plenty of water. Add good amount of seasonal fruits in your diet. Avoid consuming fried, oily and junk foods. Lastly ruled out that you do not have any menstrual problems because it can be also a major cause for acne.

Sir I am facing lot of stress, memory loss, tension, less confidence. please tell me how to over common these problems.
Your memory loss, tension and perhaps low confidence is all related to the stress that you are experiencing. First of all, the intensity of stress is in the perception. Change your perception, there is no stress: it’s like looking at a glass half full or half empty. Apart from that, all your emotions need to be dealt with by expression i.e. You need to talk about the feelings. Then you need to exercise regularly, eat fiber foods (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), sleep at least 8 hours every day, learn Yoga and meditation, learn stress management, and do a personality development course. Because you are into studies, follow a tight schedule, with good breaks and study habits. If group study helps you, do it with the right people. If tutoring is required, arrange for the same. These should see you through successfully without the stress.

My wife is suffering from BIPOLAR AFFECTIVE DISORDER. I want to know more about this disease and also permanent cure ...
It can be a crippling disease if not treated and if treated early the prognosis is good. So quickly visit a psychiatrist and seek his/her opinion and she must then follow the medication prescribed. Comply with all the medical prescriptions and work in tandem with a counselor for a long time and learn coping skills and techniques to handle the daily challenges she will face. There are certain adaptations that will suit her during the elation phase and there are certain behaviors that are required during the depressed phases. In the meantime she can do certain things that will give her benefits anyway. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. She needs to particularly look at your levels of anger both for its reasonableness and to express it in appropriate manner. I suspect that much of this anger may have origins in early childhood that she may never be aware of now. Talk to her parents and explore that angle. This information will help the counselor too. Also you will need to check whether there is any genetic factor involved. She must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If her motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. She must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. The reason I say this is that many times she will be inclined to have grandiose notions and confidently believe that she can do without the medication. This will set her back many months in the treatment and delay and sabotage the recovery: forewarned you are forearmed. If this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor. Bipolar is characterized by two extreme poles i.e. Feeling very high (mania) and suddenly feeling very low (depression). You can ask the doctor for the symptoms he noticed in her for a personal understanding. Regarding some of the symptoms here goes: Mania is a term that describes the emotional highs of bipolar disorder. In general, symptoms of a manic episode may include: •High energy, excessive activity, and/or restlessness •Overly good mood •Irritability •Fast, erratic talking •Racing thoughts •Inability to concentrate •Little need for sleep •Feelings of power •Poor judgment •Reckless spending •High sex drive •Alcohol or drug abuse •Aggression •Refusal to admit that there is a problem Bipolar Symptoms: Depression In bipolar disorder, manic episodes alternate with periods of emotional lows, which are known as depressive episodes. Signs of a depressive episode may include: •Sadness, anxiety, or a feeling of emptiness •Hopelessness •Feelings of guilt, feeling worthless, or feeling helpless •Lack of interest in activities that were once enjoyable, such as sex •Low energy •Trouble with concentration or memory •Restlessness or irritability •Excessive sleeping or insomnia •Changes in appetite or weight •Pain or other physical symptoms not explained by an illness or injury Thoughts of death, or suicidal thoughts or attempts to kill the self.

You have not mentioned your age but if you are young, then there may be a need to meet with a counselor along with your parents to determine any contributing factors from childhood. First of all, the intensity of stress is in the perception. Change your perception, there is no stress: it’s like looking at a glass half full or half empty. Apart from that, all your emotions need to be dealt with by expression i.e. You need to talk about the feelings. Modified life style, regular exercise, near normal weight maintenance, taking healthy balanced food, avoiding sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made from maida and colas. Plus refrain from alcohol and smoking. These things will help in preventing falling prey to diabetes or postponing it. There are many oral antidiabetic drugs available to treat diabetes. Plus insulin injections and some other injectable drugs (incretin based) are also there. Choice of drugs depends on individual patients. Thanks,

STD Testing - Why You Should Never Delay?

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
STD Testing - Why You Should Never Delay?

In most diseases, early detection of the disease is the key to control the symptoms, cure, reduce progression and improve prognosis. This holds true for sexually transmitted diseases too. As soon as there is a mild degree of suspicious of having contracted a sexually transmitted disease, it is advisable to go for a test. Most of the STDs can develop into serious complications over a period of time, ranging from infertility to even death.

Complications: Why early diagnosis is important: When left undiagnosed and untreated, most STDs progress to cause severe damage from sterility to cancer to even death. Listed below are some complications associated with each of the common STDs.

  1. Chlamydia: If left untreated, can lead to epididymitis and testicles shrinking and infertility in males. This is a condition where there is pus formation in the scrotum. In women, it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease which is deep-seated and unable to cure completely. This brings with it symptoms ranging from abdominal pain to uterine infections to sterility.
  2. Syphillis: Undiagnosed syphilis can lead to blindness and deafness. It can also be passed onto the newborn and lead to severe disabilities.
  3. Gonorrhea: If diagnosed early, it can be cured completely with antibiotics. However, if left untreated, it can lead to infertility.
  4. HIV/AIDS: Early diagnosis can help in curtailing the disease. If detected late, then the damage is quite extensive and treatment is both expensive and cannot help restore a lot of functions.

Symptoms of Sexually transmitted diseases: If there is a doubt of having contracted an STD, then it is very important to get tested for the same. Some of the most common symptoms are listed below.

  1. Women: The most common symptoms in women including painful urination, burning sensation, abnormal vaginal discharge (sometimes bleeding), warts, and abdominal pain.
  2. Men: Testicular pain, urethral pain, painful urination, pain and inflammation in the prostate, sores, fever, and abdominal pain.

Prevention: Always practice safe sexual practices. When in doubt, refrain from sex until diagnosis and treatment is complete.

Testing for STDs: Some of the standard tests include:

  1. 1. Herpes- HSV I & II -
    2. Testing HIV-- Kits and ELISA available for testing
    3. Blood test for syphilis antibodies
    4. Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea - from urine as well as swabs for culture

It is understandable that getting tested for STDs is an embarrassing situation. However, there are options available where anonymity can be maintained when getting tested for STDs. This is a wise choice to make as the risk is not just for the person affected but for the partner and in some cases even for the fetus. Early testing can help prevent complications like infertility and cancer.

Clogged Ears - How Nasal Obstruction Can Cause It?

DNB (ENT), MBBS, MNAMS - Otorhinolaryngology
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Clogged Ears - How Nasal Obstruction Can Cause It?

There is a strong connection between the ears, nose and throat, as any ENT or Ear Nose Throat specialist will be able to tell you. When there is any kind of congestion or obstruction in the nasal passages, one can also feel some effect in the ears with the symptoms going from mild to severe.

So how can nasal obstruction cause clogged ears? Here is our explanation!

  1. The Connection: To begin with, let us understand the connection between the ears and the nose. There is an opening that can be found in the back of the nose, which leads into a tunnel called the Eustachian Tube. This tube goes into the ears and creates some amount of pressure when the nasal passages get blocked. This pressure can be felt as clogging of the ears and can usually be eradicated with the help of a pop in the ears. This pop can be brought about by pinching your nose and trying to breathe, or even yawning hard or indulging in some gulping or swallowing motion as well
  2. Mucosal Swelling: The swelling within the patient's nose usually points at the buildup of mucus, which can make the nasal lining thicker, thus making the act of breathing that much more laboured and difficult. This obstructs the nasal tract, in plain and simple terms. This swelling usually spreads to the tunnel or the Eustachian Tube, which can become swollen and even shut, consequently leading to a feeling of having clogged ears.
  3. Negative Nasal Pressure: When the pressure inside the nose is built up in a negative way due to the obstruction that makes the patient breathe even harder, then the ears end up taking the pressure. This makes them clogged. This negative pressure usually manifests in the back of the nose where the Eustachian Tube is located, which creates a build up in the ears as well. This can also lead to a ringing pain when a patient tries to suck in air too hard due to the obstruction.
  4. Bernoulli's Principle: If we are to incorporate air in place of fluid and liken the action of breathing with an obstructed nose, with the action of sucking fluid in through an obstructed straw, then the fluid dynamics would apply to this case. As per these fluid dynamics, more rapid flow of fluid can lead to decreased pressure on the surrounding areas. This can be applied to the blocked nose where air must pass through faster and with more fluidity so as to ensure that there is less pressure on the ears, which will keep them from getting clogged.

Persistent clogged ears and nasal congestion can also point towards an infection and should be checked by a doctor immediately.

Trouble Conceiving? 3 Methods For You

Trouble Conceiving? 3 Methods For You

If you have been trying to get pregnant for a long period of time, but not succeeding, it is time for you to see a doctor immediately.
In case you have tried for pregnancy and not getting near it for a long duration, do not get disheartened and worried. There a lot of fertility techniques which have evolved over the time due to the advancement of medical technology.
If you have failed again and again, you should not wait anymore and visit a doctor. The doctor would help you locate the problem behind your failure and would provide you with other options of getting pregnant.

They are as follows:

Fertility drugs
They are the primary remedy for women who struggle to get naturally pregnant as they cannot perform ovulation.
Mimicking the body's own hormones, drugs such as Clomid work to trigger the ovaries into discharging eggs. This strategy prompts pregnancy accomplishment in a couple of months without further delay. Different drugs can, likewise, be utilized to control the menstrual cycle or thicken the womb's coating to set it up for pregnancy. Your doctor will prescribe you fertility drugs if you have an extremely irregular menstrual cycle and your ovulation is unusual, and you are not producing eggs. Sometimes, these drugs are given to women with pituitary failure.

Intrauterine insemination
In this process, a tube which contains sperms of best quality is inserted into the vagina of a woman into the uterus via the cervix. This process is carried out during the fertile-most period of the woman's menstrual cycle. It may be repeated for two or three days.
Your doctor may recommend this method in case you have unexplained infertility, or if you have problems in ovulating. If your partner is impotent or in case that you do not have a partner, this process can be undertaken.

In vitro fertilization (IVF)
This treatment includes the preparation of an egg outside your body. Eggs are accumulated from a woman's ovaries and are blended with sperm. The fertilization process happens in a leveled, flat shaped glass dish. The prepared egg or embryo is then put back into the uterus, which is called embryo transfer. A solitary treatment cycle can take anything between six weeks and two months and involves stages where you need regular injections and general ultrasound observing. This will be recommended by the doctor if you have unexplained fertility or when your fallopian tubes get blocked.
If you are struggling to get pregnant for a long time, you should not wait and consult a doctor, who would provide you with alternatives.

Low Libido In Females - 7 Associated Causes

Low Libido In Females - 7 Associated Causes

"Men get naughty at 4-0 forty" but for women, the case may be very-very different. By their thirtieth birthday, many women begin complaining of a lowered libido or lack of interest in sex with their partner. This can be quite frustrating for both partners and can lead to a rift in the relationship. Hence, it becomes essential to pay attention to this condition.

The first step to finding a solution to any problem is to understand the factors that trigger it. Some causes for a lowered libido in women are -

Birth Control and Medication: Birth control essentially manipulates the hormone levels in the body. While this may prevent unwanted pregnancies, a lowered libido is a common side effect of birth control medication. Antidepressants also have similar side effects.

Over Working: Working hard is a good thing but too much of a good thing can have a negative effect on your health. In this case, overworking may lead to stress, anxiety, fatigue and burnout. This can lead to a weakened adrenal gland. The adrenal glands are responsible for the production of testosterone and in this way, working too hard can be the reason for women to not enjoy sex as much as they once used to.

Hormonal Changes: With age, every woman faces hormonal changes. This can result in a lack of lubrication making intercourse uncomfortable. Over time, this can lower libido considerably.
Ways to Enhance a Woman's Libido-
A lowered libido isn't something you have to quietly accept. Here are a few ways to enhance a woman's libido.

Go on a date:
Intercourse is as much an emotional exercise as it is a physical one. Cutting back from other responsibilities, work, children etc and spending time alone with your partner can help you emotionally reconnect with him.

Meditation:
Meditation can help calm the mind and reduce stress. This, in turn, will enhance the production of testosterone in the adrenal glands and thereby enhance libido. Meditation can also help you disconnect from worries and tensions that may be weighing you down.

Medication:
When it comes to a diminished libido, medication may be an effective form of treatment, but it must be tailored to the individual. While estrogen skin creams may be beneficial for some women, others may benefit from testosterone supplements. A few antidepressants can also enhance a woman's libido by increasing dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Viagra can also help enhance a woman's libido especially in cases where the lowered libido was caused by antidepressants.
