Sir, I've been eating tobacco from last 7 to 8 years, But from last 18 months I leave that habit of chewing tobacco. But I can't able to open my mouth properly. So, give me some idea what can I do. Please suggest. Thanking you Regards Wasim Akram.

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Your condition is called oral submucous fibrosis. Bad thing about it is it is called precancerous lesion. Good part about it is it is curable if and only if you discontinue with your habits. Discontinue consuming tobacco, supari in any form (chewable or smoking). Also avoid red chillies and tomato seeds. You need to see a dentist. He may advice for injections. It will help you open your mouth slightly more and reduce any burning sensation associated with oral submucous fibrosis. Also balloon blowing and opening mouth with gradually increasing ice cream sticks will help (say 5 to begin with and gradually increase to 8 or 9). If your local dentist can't help you with treatment (because many dentist don't do this treatment) I suggest you go to dental college or oral surgeon. Ask if you still have doubts.

We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Toothache & Abscess

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Toothache & Abscess
The most common reason for a toothache and swelling is a abscessed tooth.

An abscessed tooth is an infection caused by tooth decay, periodontal disease or a cracked tooth. These problems can let bacteria enter the pulp (the soft tissue of a tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue) and can lead to pulp death. When pus builds up at the root tip in the jaw bone, it forms a pus-pocket called an abscess. If the abscess is not treated, it can lead to a serious infection in the jaw bone, teeth and surrounding tissues.

Symptoms of an abscess include:
Pain
Swelling
Redness in the gums
Bad taste in the mouth
Fever
An abscessed tooth can be treated with various treatments, depending on the severity of the infection. Here are some of the treatment methods that may be considered.
Antibiotics, to destroy the bacteria causing the infection
Drainage of the infection
Cleaning the space between the tooth and the gum if the cause is from gum disease
Root canal treatment if the abscess is caused by decay or a cracked tooth
Following good oral hygiene practices and routine dental exams will significantly reduce your risk of developing a tooth abscess. If your teeth experience trauma (become loosened or chipped), see your dentist as soon as possible:

As the treatment is ongoing, I would suggest you to get a clarity for the same from your orthodontist. Might be a part of correction of the malallignment. Pre-operative pictures are required to help you better.

Suffering with bad breath from when I am at the age of 12 and it's continuing how to stop it. I am trying ginger a piece a day daily I heard it stops bad breath permanently ?

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
If you never undergone for dental cleaning , first you should visit a dentist for cleaning.Because one of the main cause for bad breath is improper cleaning. On other side u should brush properly two times a day.And use a mouthwash at night before sleeping. And you can continue with ginger. It also helps in this case. Thank you.

Hello lybrate-user, your teeth are fine but your gums are infected. The solution for infection is cleaning of teeth as well as gums. Firstly you have to remove all deposits present on teeth and are irritating to gums. After that at home also you can take care of them by- brushing your teeth properly twice daily and with proper technique. Use soft bristle toothbrush. Any toothpaste you can use but take a little quantity of it.

Do u take lot of tea or have some habits like smoking or taking tobacco? the stains are generally because of these habits. Kindly get scaling done and then u can keep them at bay by using proper brushing technique and pls stop the habits if any.
