What is the better method to operate the teeth.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
What is the better method to operate the teeth.
There are severeal surgical methods to remove the teeth. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Everyone doesn't have pearl white teeth. The shade of your teeth matches your skin colour. Still you can go for scaling and polishing. For more whiteness, go for bleaching.

Quit habits strictly. Seems like you have oral submucous fibrosis (osmf). Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of osmf. Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day.

5 Habits That Destroy Your Smile:

Advanced Aesthetics, MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist,
5 Habits That Destroy Your Smile:
1. Not flossing
Brushing your teeth twice a day is important, but many patients don't realize that flossing at least once a day is just as critical to achieving—and maintaining—a healthy smile. Flossing removes the cavity-causing bacteria left behind from food particles that get stuck between teeth. "Although bleeding and irritation sometimes can occur when you first start flossing, it's important to keep at it," says Dr. Ghareeb. "Your gums will toughen up and your oral health will be better for it."

2. Brushing too soon after eating
Consuming acidic foods and beverages, such as sports and energy drinks, citrus fruits, wine, and tomatoes, can erode tooth enamel—the glossy outer layer of the tooth. Brushing your teeth too soon after eating and drinking these items can cause more damage because you are essentially brushing the acid into the teeth, not getting rid of it. Instead, you should rinse your mouth with water after consuming acidic foods and beverages and wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your pearly whites!

3. Not replacing your toothbrush often enough
Not only are old toothbrushes ineffective, but they also harbor harmful bacteria that can cause infections. Toothbrushes should be changed every three to four months. "It's also important to change your toothbrush after you've had a cold," says Dr. Ghareeb.

4. Excessively bleaching your teeth
Overzealous bleaching can cause your teeth to look unnaturally white and increase tooth sensitivity. Before using an at-home bleaching product, talk to your dentist. "He or she can advise you on proper use of these products as well as which type of bleaching system will provide you with the best results," says Dr. Ghareeb.

5. Using a hard-bristled toothbrush
A hard-bristled toothbrush coupled with an aggressive brushing technique can cause irreversible damage to your gums. Use a soft toothbrush and gently brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle, in a circular motion. Using a back-and-forth, sawing motion causes the gums to recede, and can expose the root of the tooth, making teeth extremely sensitive.

I have pain in right lower wisdom tooth since 6-7 months. Please help.

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist,
I have pain in right lower wisdom tooth since 6-7 months. Please help.
Hello wisdom teeth are notorious for causing pain and discomfort in most people. The most common cause for the problem is insufficient space in the jaws for the eruption of teeth. The tissue covering the tooth often gets inflamed due to trauma or poor oral hygiene and causes pain and difficulty in mouth opening. If your problem has persisted for more than six months I will advise you to visit an oral surgeon who will take an x ray and analyse its chances of eruption. If it looks unlikely that the tooth will erupt then it will be prudent to get it surgically removed. For the time being try to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing after every meal. All the best.

I am having gum swelling and pain, what can be done?

BDS
Dentist,
I am having gum swelling and pain, what can be done?
Professional cleaning of teeth (complete scaling) is required to remove the tartar deposits on teeth where gums meet. Tartar irritates gums causing it to swell and pain. After scaling of all teeth its necessary to rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash twice or thrice daily half an hour after meals for at least 2 weeks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it will be best if you get this stone removed. You may have to consult the local oral surgeon for the same. But this stone can become a source of external infection if you don't get it removed at the earliest.

There may be cavity in your tooth. Go for x-ray to know about the extent of the cavity. After that treatment can be decided either filling or rct. For temporary relief from pain you can take ketorol dt 2 tabs dissolved in half cup of water

Why to Fill Up a Missing Tooth?

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Why to Fill Up a Missing Tooth?

A missing tooth can be responsible for causing different health issues. Along with these, a person loses his ability of chewing with missing teeth, develop problems related to speaking and his overall facial appearance also gets affected.

In case of a missing tooth or several missing teeth, it is best advised to get dentures fitted. Dentures are false teeth, which are fitted in the oral cavity in place of lost natural teeth.

Here are several reasons why it is important to fill up a missing tooth:

  1. Shifting of tooth: When a tooth is lost, the surrounding teeth start drifting or moving in the open gap where the lost tooth used to be. The surrounding teeth are shifted out of the alignment. This affects the appearance of your face, and your teeth seem crooked and misplaced. It is necessary to replace a missing tooth with dentures in order to restrict the shifting before it is too late.
  2. TMJ Syndrome: After a tooth is lost and the surrounding teeth start shifting, the alignment is changed. This gives rise to problems with biting and creates issues with the jaws. The upper jaw and the lower jaw fail to meet correctly, and this causes strain and damage to the jaw joint. This phenomenon is called TMJ syndrome.
  3. Decay of tooth and gum diseases: After the shifting of surrounding teeth when a tooth is lost, the teeth alignment changes. This makes it difficult for a person to reach several areas in the gum with a toothbrush or floss. This makes plaque and bacteria accumulate in that area and they cannot be reached or cleaned. Tooth decay and gum diseases or periodontal diseases that are likely to affect those spots. These diseases and disorders cause further tooth loss.
  4. Alteration in facial appearance: A missing tooth should be replaced properly and a dentist must make sure that the root of the missing tooth is removed. In case the root is not removed totally, bone deterioration is likely to occur. Bone loss occurs in the jaw area, and this may result in a change or alteration in your facial appearance. A timely replacement of a missing tooth will prohibit bone loss from the jaw area, and you will be saved from any kind of alteration in your facial appearance, which might affect your looks and self-esteem greatly.

A missing tooth should never be ignored and in case you lose a tooth, you should see a dentist as soon as possible. By filling up a missing tooth, you will be able to save yourself from several issues related to the mouth and gums.

My son is 5 years of age he had a toothache painful with cavity should the dentist remove the tooth? Or else stay it as it is?

My son is 5 years of age he had a toothache painful with cavity should the dentist remove the tooth? Or else stay it ...
The type of treatment you have for toothache will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. • If your toothache is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. • If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection.
