I am suffering from serious back ache from last one month I ate many painkiller but then olso it is not solved properly please tell me the solution for this.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -stop normal physical activity for the first few days. This will help relieve your symptoms and reduce any swelling in the area of the pain. -apply heat or ice to the painful area. One good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours, and then use heat. Take pain relievers medicine. --while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins. -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. But, starting these exercises too soon after an injury can make your pain worse. -some physiotherapy treatment like ift current can give you some relief. -a full history of your problem should be taken and your movements assessed by a physiotherapist. Please consult a physiotherapist for the same.

Sir, Five years back i met with an accident and suffred upper femur and medial femur fracture. Then nail inserted . From one year back i was suffreing from pain in my pelvis region. Doctor advised to remove nail. It was removed seven month back. But i am suffering from pain. Now doctor telling me to joint replace ment of my upper femur bone. What should i do. Advice me

DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS

What you have is a complication of fracture of the upper end of the thigh bone. The blood supply to head of femur (upper end) is affected and as a result you have AVN of the hip. For an active person like you, the best option would be a Delta Motion Ceramic on ceramic hip replacement. This will give unrestricted mobility and will last long.

I am 36 year male suffering from regular leg pain above ankle and also numbness in feet while walking. The condition goes away when I stop for few minutes and again resurfaces when I start walking again. What should I do?

M S Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Mumbai
Hello lybrate user, the symptoms you are describing are similar to what we call claudication. In common language, it is development of symptoms of pain etc in the lower limbs after one does some previously accustomed activity ie one was able to do those activities easily but are causing symptoms now. It occurs due two causes. Firstly, vascular problem causing decreased blood supply to the muscles of the lower limb which is now inadequate to maintain the demands of the muscle while doing activity. Secondly, neurological problem in which there is stenosis in the spinal canal which transmit the nerves from brain to the lower limbs. This stenosis causes decreased space for the nerves and their vessels causing pain in the lower limbs. With the details you have provided, and your profile, it looks more like a spinal canal stenosis. I would suggest you to see a spine surgeon or an orthopaedician for a detailed assessment. I would also suggest you forward bending exercises and exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles. Hope this helps.

I am 16 years old but I have a back ache from 2 years if I do more work it starts paining in the back region so what shall I do now to reduce three problem please reply soon.

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
1) avoid those activities which increases your pain. Eg: prolong sitting, forward bending etc 2) one should find out the cause of your pain eg: if the pain has started suddenly, it could be a muscle pull while playing or bending or long stretch sitting 3) if the pain is since long and is increasing gradually then you should go for a radiological report to diagnose the problem. Once the cause is known, treatment can be done accordingly. Mean while, focus on the following points: 1) place a cushion and support your back while sitting. 2) check on your footwears. Bad footwear leads to back pain 3) place a pillow under your knees while sleeping straight and between your both knees while sleeping side lying (this technique helps to relax your muscles) 4) use a hot water bag/ heat belt to the painful area, heat will improve the blood flow to the muscles and hence will allow them to relax. 5) start certain stretching and strengthening exercises attest twice a day. Regards!
