Found of uric acid 13% in blood. So please advice this can b cured permanently without gouts.
Mr. lybrate-user S. THERE IS NO PERMANENT CURE OF ANY PROBLEM. YOU CAN TAKE ONLY PREVENTIVE MEASURES 1. HIGH FIBER DIET LIKE OATS, WHOLE GRAINS, VEGETABLES LIKE BROCCOLI PUMPKIN, STRAWBERRY, BLUEBERRY & RASPBERRY. HIGH FIBER FOOD ABSORBS THE URIC ACID AND ELIMINATES IR FROM BODY WITH BOWEL. 2. VITAMIN C RICH FRUITS LIKE LIKE SWEET LIME JUICE AMALA PREFERABLY INSTEAD OF SUPPLEMENTING WITH VIT C 500 MG DAILY .VITAMIN C LOWERS THE URIC ACID BY BREAKING DOWN OF URIC ACID. 3 USE OF GREEN TEA CAN LOWER THE URIC ACID. GREEN TEA CONTAINS ANTIOXIDANT CATECHIN WHICH SLOW DOWN TE RELEASE OF PARTICULAR ENZYMES OF THE BODY THAT ARE RELATED WITH URIC ACID FORMATION. 4.AVOID CITRUS FRUIT. 5. CARROTS AND CUCUMBER CAN CONTROL THE URIC ACID. THE ARE NOT ONLY RICH IN ANTIOXIDANT BUT ALSO RICH IN FIBER. THUS THEY DO DUAL SUPPORT IN REDUCING THE U RIC ACID i.e .ANTIOXIDANT CONTROLS THE PRODUCTION OF THE ENZYMES PROMOTING THE URIC ACID IN BLOOD AND FIBERS SIMULTANEOUSLY ABSORB THE URIC ACID AND EXPEL IT FROM THE BODY. 6. USE OF TOMATOES SHOULD BE LIMITED. I.e. EXCESS USE SHOULD BE AVOIDED. 7. AVOID DAIRY PRODUCTS (ONLY LOW FAT DAIRY PRODUCT LIKE SKIMMED MILK AND YOGURT CAN BE USED) 8.USE OF PLENTY OF FLUIDS WHICH HELPS IN THE REMOVAL OF URIC ACID FROM THE BODY THROUGH EXECRATION. 9. AVOID PURINE RICH FOOD WHICH ARE THE PRIMARY SOURCE OF URIC ACID. LIKE ANIMAL MEAT, FISHES, BEANS AND DAL, SPINACH ETC. 10. AVOID BAKERY PRODUCT AS THE Y ARE GOOD SOURCE OF URIC ACID. 11. AVOID SPICY OILY AND PROCESSED FOOD BECAUSE IT HAS HIGH CHOLESTEROL, TRIGLYCERIDE WHICH INCREASES THE PROBLEM OF URIC ACID. 12. WEIGHT IS REQUIRED TO KEEP IN CONTROL. 13. NO ALCOHOL AS IT STOPS THE ELIMINATION OF URIC ACID FROM BODY.

Hyperglycemia - 10 Tips to Manage it

Practical Course in Diabetology, POST GRADUATE COURSE IN DIABETOLOGY, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Srinagar
Hyperglycemia - 10 Tips to Manage it

In simple terms, hyperglycemia is the medical term for abnormally high levels of sugar in the blood stream. The blood sugar level range is 65-110 mg/dl and can extend up to 120-140 mg/dl a few hours after eating. However, when a person has eaten no food, but has a blood sugar level of more than 126 mg/dl, that may be a symptom of diabetes mellitus.

Reasons Behind it

A person who is hyperglycemic is most likely to be diagnosed with diabetes, which may be type 1 or type 2.

Type 1 diabetes is caused when the immune system destroys the insulin secreting cells in the pancreas. The insulin production in the body stops, thereby, causing an enormous increase in the sugar levels. In such a situation, nothing, but external dose of insulin will be required to survive.

Type 2 diabetes is caused when the body stops responding to the insulin produced by the body and in a desperate attempt to maintain blood sugar level, the pancreas produce excess insulin. In this case, changing lifestyle, food-habits and taking proper medication can be the only way out for a healthy life.

Therefore, the major causes leading to increase in blood sugar level might be:

  • Inadequate supply of insulin

  • Slow or no reaction of the body to the insulin produced by the body

Tips to manage hyperglycemia

Here are some important tips that could help individuals regulate their blood sugar levels:

  1. As we know, the carbohydrates break down into glucose, which is absorbed by the body cells with the help of insulin. So, in case of hyperglycemia, individuals should manage or better, cut off, carbohydrate intake in their meals.

  2. Another important element to be highly monitored is the blood cholesterol level. For this, you must curb eating oily and spicy food.

  3. It is very important that individuals limit their alcohol intake because alcohol contains huge amount of calories and carbs, which might lead to sky-rocketing blood-sugar levels.

  4. The diet should contain adequate portions of nuts and olive oil.

  5. Eating fatty milk products and fatty food should be strictly avoided.

  6. Each and every food should be inspected for sugar because even a slight bit of sugar can mess up the entire process of managing the sugar level.

  7. Individuals should try stress-free mild work out, as heavy work out could cause the blood-sugar level to rise in case of type 2 diabetes.

  8. Anxiety, tension and stress would not help the process in anyway.

Proper medication and check-ups are necessary. It is important to be fit and healthy.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine

A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. And some people with a high uric acid level also develop high blood pressure, heart disease or chronic kidney disease, but it's often unclear whether this is a direct cause or merely an early warning sign of these conditions. Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include: Diuretic medications (water pills),Drinking too much alcohol,Genetics (inherited tendencies),hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid),Immune-suppressing drugs,Niacin, or vitamin B-3, obesity, psoriasis, Purine-rich diet — organ meat, game meat, anchovies, herring, gravy, dried beans, driedpeas, mushrooms and other foods Renal insufficiency — inability of the kidneys to filter waste Tumor lysis syndrome — a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers,Also, you may be monitored for high uric acid levels when undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain, oats, green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day.Take tab. Bencid 500 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos or tab. Naprosyn 500 mg once a day or sos for pain in joints.

Infertility - Is Homeopahy a Safer Alternative for it?

Starting a family and being people who you can completely rely on is something that may be a dream that most people nurture and work towards. In the Indian culture, it is seen that children are supposed to serve as the backbone for the parents in their old age and when a couple is able to bear children, they may be able to lead more satisfied lives than at any other point in time. While most couples are blessed with happy families, there are a lot of those couples who may have to rely on medicines and treatments to be able to conceive a child.

With the changing lifestyle and the increasing amount of stress, a lot of couples are not able to conceive naturally. This is when they turn to medical help from professionals who may be able to suggest treatments and counselling. Even though the medications and treatments are sought very popularly, it is also a fact that couples have to go through painful procedures and unfruitful trials before they are able to get positive results, if at all that is possible. Not to mention the expensive treatment costs and the costly medicines that they have to invest in, apart from the mental and emotional trauma that is accompanied with it.

A safer alternative:
One of the safest alternatives to conventional medicine and treatments is to opt for homeopathy. This is a style of treatment that works on the body using natural means such as plants extracts and other natural derivatives, in combination with medicinal properties in healthy portions. With the use of such treatments and medicines, it may be possible for aspirant couples to be able to work on their body systems to make them healthier and more responsive to conceiving a child.

Some of the most important advantages of homeopathic treatment for infertility:

  1. The medicines make sure that they do not put the others aspects of health at jeopardy for the users of homeopathic medicines which means that the medicines do not have highly destructive side effects.
  2. The lack of side effects in the homeopathic medicines for infertility ensure that the couples remain mentally and emotionally strong enough to stick to the resolve of getting treated and that is something that may be helpful in the success of the treatment.
  3. Since the medicines are all organic, most of them are not as expensive as the conventional medicines.
  4. Choosing a safe stream of medication such as homeopathy may also help in ensuring that when the child is conceived, it does not get affected by the harmful medicines that may be administered to the couple.

When the future of your family and health is at stake, it is important that you take well thought out and wise decisions about what kind of treatments you should undergo.

You also seem to have thyroid problems for which you are taking medications. It's good that you stopped drinking. I would suggest you to consult your endocrinologist to revise your thyroxine doses according to your most recent reports. Start exercising and get a diet plan from a dietician to help in weight loss. Always remember it's not magical! since you didnot gain overnight you won't lose weight overnight either. Good luck and take care.

Sir, my dad is 50 year old he is facing with diabetes. He is using medicine for 3 years but he is not feeling better....
Mr. Lybrate-user, if diabetes is well controlled then invariably the person feels fine, all symptoms are in control. Please give me the details like fasting, pp sugar levels, hba1c%, present drugs with dosage, diet pattern and extent of daily exercise that he does. In diabetes apart from taking correct drugs it is very essential to have a restricted diet that provides exact calories based on ideal body weight and regular exercise of at least 1 hour a day is a must. This helps in reducing resistance to insulin and improves its action and gives a feeling of well being. If you have any doubts please come in a private conversation, where I will be able to guide better.

I am suffering from hypothyroidism from 2011 n my TSH level is 12.12 and I also suffered from Alopecia since two mont...
Kindly get your TSH levels after taking the medication regularly in the prescribed dose for a minimum period of 3 months. If the TSH is still raised you may need to increase the dose but all this has to be under supervision of expert in thyroid disease since these are hormones and minor alteration in their dose can have impact on overall metabolism of the body. As far as weight issue is there, people with hypothyroidism loose weight at the initiation of therapy since there is water loss from beneath the skin (body swelling becomes less). This may happen for around 6 weeks. Thereafter the weight stabilizes. Any further weight loss if desired is possible only with dietary modification and exercise. Hope this helps.
