My friend has breast cancer in second stage. Can she live happily without fearing about death?
She definitely does not need to think about death. Hopefully she will live long. Second stage is a very good stage. Positive thinking beats all odds. She should just be regular with her treatment and follow up.

I lost someone last year and I am in depression. You will give me some idea for relief depression.

I lost someone last year and I am in depression. You will give me some idea for relief depression.
What you are going through is greaving. Loosing loved one is not easy to deal with emotionally. I am sorry for your loss. When you are greaving, your mind is continuously engaged in sad and disturbing thoughts and feeling of loss and perhaps guilt. When sadness over powers you it is difficult to feel any other feelings. Even feeling happy makes you feel guilty and uneasy. Slow but effective way to over cone sadness is to engage yourself in some neutral activities such as cleaning. Walking or readjng a light book. Once you try that for few days you may be ready for following things. There are few things I would like you to try. 1. When you feel sad. Feel the feeling of sadness fully. You may close your eyes and let that sadness flow through your mind and body. If tears flow let them flow. Cry it out. Feeling what you feel fully and totally is healing. Once you feel your sadness fully. You might feel the lightness in your heart. Feel that too and say out loud. How wonderful! and engage your mind remembering some good qualities and good times you spent with the person you are missing. 2. Regular simple breath awareness meditation also help manage your loss. 3. You may also l write daily 3 to 5 things you are grateful to every morning. These things could be as simple as having a bed to sleep and food to eat. Affirm what you write and add new thing in your list for 7 to10 days. If you are not feeling any change over next 2 weeks or if you lack motivation to initiate and maintain above activities feel free contact me and we could work together for few weeks to months to reverse your cycle and help you appreciate what you have. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

I am anjali (18 years old), suffering from major depression since last two-three years, scored 87 in goldberg's depression test and this year was the worst of all I somehow suffered from hypomania as I learned about its symptoms now online. I am not able to judge my awkward behaviour. I even had anxiety attacks not very much but more than rare. Depression took place from last three to four years back leading me to live all alone without telling anyone about my problems as ultimately no one believes in what I say. And everyone including my family members tend to say I talk rubbish, can never stick to a point while explaining something. It lead to me with poor results in school, family and everywhere and all over I am trying to get rid of this disgusting life and tried to commit suicide from last two years but unfortunately I am not able to judge my unusual behaviour which makes me a fool in front of everyone and no one is able to get my awkward behaviour. I always forget things happen just a minute before, have racing thoughts in my mind, always lack self confidence and become nervous but I don't know how I become so much active and become overconfident, excessively cry always but sometimes I laugh excessively and try to joke poorly and realize afterwards what have I done in front of everyone. I am totally confused about me and my life. Even while trying to get rid of this life I think that after this also everyone will blame me of being responsible for all this. What should I do? Please help me out.

Dear lybrate-user, Probably you are suffering from a Bipolar Disorder which has 4 different phases in the same person. 1. Depression - as you have suffered 2. Hypomania or mania - as you have self diagnosed at present. 3. Mixed phase - both depressive and manic symptoms occur together for few days and 4. Normal phase. Instead of taking only a depression scale, please take a Bipolar scale. Since you are only 18 years, psychiatrists may not diagnose without family history or disturbances in your life due to mood changes, etc. Kindly consult a psychiatrist preferably with your parents and get diagnosed. Bipolar disorder can be treated with long term mood stabiliser tablets to improve your quality of life.

Reading Can Change Your Life!

Reading Can Change Your Life!
When was the last time you sat down and read a book from start to finish? Does your daily reading center around Facebook updates or the back of a cereal box? If you haven’t picked up a good book in a while you should! I just recently started reading again for fun and to my surprise there are quite a few benefits to daily reading.

1. Mental Stimulation

Just like we have to exercise the body, we also have to exercise the brain. Reading helps to keep the brain stimulated which can slow the progress of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Doing puzzles and playing games like chess can be just as helpful as reading.

2. Relieve Stress

Reading is a huge stress reliever. A well-written book can sweep you away into another realm, which will allow your tensions to slip away so you can finally relax.

3. Gain Knowledge

Everything you read fills your head up with more knowledge. You never know what you might come in handy. The more you read the more knowledge you will have to tackle future challenges. The best part is no one can ever take knowledge away from you!

4. Memory and mood

I recently finished the book Wicked, by Gregory Maguire, and there was a lot to remember! Each chapter had new characters, towns, and events to follow. Reading will help improve your memory and every new memory you create forges new brain pathways, which strengthens existing ones. This will help assist your short-term memory and stabilize your mood.

5. Stay Focused

Every day we are pulled in a million different directions. The Internet certainly doesn’t help. I find myself working on schoolwork, checking my email, updating my Facebook, and listening to music all at the same time, while getting distracted by ads in my internet browser. Reading can help improve your focus and concentration. When you read a book, all of your attention is focused on what you are reading. Try reading for 15-20 minutes before work and see if you feel more focused throughout the day.

6. Writing

Having more exposure to well written books can improve your writing skills as well. In the same way we learn by watching others we can learn from reading a good book.

7. Free and Fun!

It’s free! Visit your local library or thrift store to find some good books to read. Libraries rotate their stock so you won’t run out of books to read. There are also many sites that will let you download free e-books. So there isn’t any reason not to start reading for fun!

It their house and their environment so I think it's you who should adjust. First don't try to change them as they won't. Instead you try to focus on yourself and be who you want to be. Stop looking at them in a critical manner and start developing your strengths.

As your mother is diabetic, we can not continue olanzapine for long term. We need to change olanzapine to safer antipsychotic like aripiprazole or Amisulpride. Thank you

Very fact that you have a problem for 5 years and nothing serious has happened. This can't be something as you fear. Hiding the disease hides the cure. Modern medicine has developed so much in last 5 years that you should not mis trust it. The cause of headache can be anything like migraine, stress headache, tension headache, unhealthy life style, lack of rest or sleep, Galucoma in Eye pressure, vision defects, sinus, BP etc. etc. All can be treated but must be diagnosed first. First see a Consultant Physician for proper medical examination, related investigations, cross reference to Eye Specialist, ENT Specialist and if no relief finally to Neuro physician. Have courage and hope but your approach should be correct, swift and scientific . Best Wishes
