To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. 1. Start with changing your lifestly. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2. Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. b. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. c. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. d. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. e. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. f. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. g. You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Just follow the regimen of weight gain religiously and you will soon start seeing the results.

A month back I ran a 5 km marathon. After the run I had a severe back pain which lasted for a week. Everything was fine after that until the last 2 days in which I'm having similar pains which is causing a lot difficulties while I'm working/sitting in a chair.

Hi please get your serum calcium and vitamin D3 levels done by blood tests. Do hot fomentation, and take adequate rest fir 3 days. Take pain meds also for 3 days. Do back muscles strengthening exercises under a physiotherapist show your blood reports to an orthopedic surgeon who may do further evaluation and management take protein rich nutrition's.Avoid lifting weights best wishes.

Hye, Thanks for the query. If you want to gain some weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. 1. Eat 5 to 6 meals a day In order to gain weight, you need to start eating 5-6 meals a day. However, it is important that you break these meals into parts, as eating a lot at once may result in indigestion. Also, be sure to include healthy foods in your diet for a healthy weight gain. 2. Weight train at least 3 times a week When you train with weights, your muscles grow. 3. Consume more calories than you burn. Eating calories more than your normal intake may not be easy, but you must do it if you want to stop being skinny. Make sure you don’t do it just by overeating at once, but instead do it gradually over the whole day. 4. Work out your entire body A lot of gym goers usually train only the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Make sure you workout your entire body for a wholesome weight gain. 5. Load up on protein As informed earlier, you have to consume more calories than your normal intake every day. You can do this by eating foods rich in protein like dairy, meat, eggs, nuts, dry fruits, pulses, sprouts, smoothies, milk shakes etc. 6. Drink your calories It may be tough to meet your calorie requirements by just eating. Drinking milk, lassi, milkshakes or fruit smoothies with little or no sugar can be a great way to load up on the required calories. 7. Try and eat fast (but don’t choke on it) Your body takes some time to give signals of satiety which is why eating fast can help you eat more. 8. Focus on recovery after each workout Stretching exercises, foods rich in carbohydrates can help recover your body significantly. Also, you should aim for 8 hours of sleep as inadequate sleep can cause several problems. 9. Be patient with yourself.

You can use smf mouth rinse and gargles, and can take anti oxidant capsules but all these can be of limited help, you must consult an oral surgeon.

My mom is almost 55 years old. She have pain in her foot due to bone growth. What is to be done?

Firstly get her uric acid checked. There is much you can do at home to manage the symptoms of bone spurs. Your first goal is to reduce the associated inflammation. Apply a cold pack to the affected area. Heat packs raise temperature and increase blood circulation, so they are counter-indicated in situations where inflammation exists. Cold therapy with ice, on the other hand, reduces swelling and pain by constricting blood vessels which helps relieve the inflammation. This age is of menopause, if your mother is not suffering from kidney and gallbladder stone, than she can eat 1 gram lime stone (choona) in 100 grams dahi everyday, this problem is of vaat (vaat pit kaff), avoid refined oil, use only pure mustard oil or cow ghee, or olive, vaat diseases becomes worst if you use refined or double refined, infact everybody in your home should abolish refined oil.

Use Tea Tree face wash and Toner twice daily. Use AHA Glow face wash once in a day. Use Sunscreen with SPF 30 daily. Use natural face pack of Multani Mitti and lemon 2 times a week. You can also use apple cider vinegar for 5 minutes after washing your face and splash it clean with water.  Most important is diet- Do not eat Junk, Eat more Vegetables and fruits especially with Vitamin C.

Dear many people take body building or muscle mass building supplements these days to have an attractive physique in a short span of time. Testosterone, creatine, andro hormone supplements, glutamine supplements, fat burners are some of the popular bodybuilding supplements. Boosting the testosterone levels causes serious side effects like hair loss, breast enlargement in males (gynecomastia), prostate enlargement, acne, testicular atrophy and increased estrogen levels. Creatine is already present in our body therefore a healthy person does not require its additional dose. The excess of creatine in our body can cause many side effects. One major side effect is that creatine absorbs water from the other body organs and deposits into muscle cells. As a result, there is lack of water supply in the other parts of the body and suffers dehydration. Excess creatine also causes muscle cramps, kidney stones, ulcer, diarrhea, anxiety, stomach upset, headache etc. Excess intake of glutamine supplement may result in manic depression, stomach upset, nausea, lack of concentration, body ache and it often affects the brain as well.
