Am developing my wisdom teeth and I can not bear the pains what can I do to reduce it.

MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist, Delhi
If the pain is persisting then I recommend you to visit a dentist. Probably you may have to get tooth removed or the gum around the tooth be excised.

I drink something cold, I feel on my teeth. Which medicines or toothpaste you would recommend me?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months. Changing the toothbrush alone donot keeps your teeth clean. All toothpaste have nearly similar ingredients like Abrasives, Fluorides, Surfactants, Antibacterial agents, Flavourants, Remineralizers, Fluoride, Diethylene glycol, Triclosan etc. Only the wrong brushing technique that we follow harms our teeth and gums. So consult your dentist, learn proper brushing technique, Brush your teeth twice a day, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush to protect your teeth and gums from plaque and calculus. Floss your teeth inter dentally once a day. Consume a healthy diet rich in vegetables and lean protein. Reduce your intake of sugary foods and beverages. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Drink plenty of fluoridated tap water. Drink not consume alcohol drinks. Don’t smoke.

Any idea to get those yellow teeth make white. Share any real effective idea as I have already tried a lot. Thanks.

BDS
Dentist, Thane
Treatment plan goes as follows: visit the dentist, who will first do clean up of your teeth this will remove all the extrinsic stains and deposits present on the teeth & reveal the original colour of your teeth. After that if you want more brighter teeth you can undergo teeth whitening or bleaching treatment for further enhancement of shade. Your dentist will be best judge to decide whether home bleaching or in office bleaching will provide you with the desired results. You can try some commercially available whitening toothpastes after bleaching to maintain the effect for bit longer time. Whitening toothpastes can also be used without bleaching treatment for very minor yellowish discolouration but cannot give you satisfactory results in more complex stains.

Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. Reduce your alcohol consumption. Stop smoking. Cut down on coffee. Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person.

How Omega-3 Can Get Rid of Your Gum Woes?

How Omega-3 Can Get Rid of Your Gum Woes?

Omega-3 fatty acids are 'good' fats that reduce cholesterol levels and 'bad' saturated fats from your body. They belong to a family of unsaturated fatty acids and are necessary for the normal functioning of the body. The body cannot synthesize omega-3 fatty acids; hence, you can get it from sources such as salmon which provides omega-3 fatty acids known as ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) and vegetable oils such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil and flaxseed oil that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

How can they help in gum problems?

A study, published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, was based on a survey called the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researched and studied the effects of consumption of DHA on dental health. After studying data from over 9000 participants, researchers found that the people, who consumed the highest amount DHA amongst all, were 20% less prone to developing periodontitis.

Periodontitis is an inflammatory gum disease caused by bacteria that accumulate around the gums. It causes the gums to recede, leading to the development of gaps between the gums and teeth and loss of bones that provide support to the teeth. Periodontitis may even cause tooth loss.

The research showed that even consuming a small amount of omega-3 fatty acids offered protection against gum diseases. Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties, which help relieve inflammation of gums that occurs in periodontitis. Researchers from Kentucky University found that omega-3 fatty acids have anti-bacterial properties, which prevent and cure gum diseases. Gum diseases have been related to other conditions such as heart disease, pneumonia and diabetes, hence keeping gum diseases at bay keeps other fatal diseases away as well.

Hi, I am 23years old, I am suffering from teeth problem, between two teeth, there is a gape. So what can I do.

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user, you have a condition called as diastema. In diastema, there is spacing between two or more teeth which compromises aesthetics. This problem is very common and can easily be corrected by orthodontic treatment or braces. You wil be required to visit an orthodontist. Depending upon the gap, braces may be required for 6months or 1year. But the results are permanent and lasting, and will help improve your smile. These days, tooth colored braces and all sorts of aesthetic wires are available, which not compromise your looks, unlike the conventional metallic braces. I advise you to get the treatmenti initiates as early as possible. The jaw bone is softer and more moldable when young, due to which braces in younger people result in better outcomes compared to their older counterparts. So the sooner, the better. All the best.

I am 28 years old female. My family members complain that I have a bad breath. A foul smell comes from my mouth off and on. I brush properly twice a day. I even clean my tongue and the molars also every day. I use colgate toothbrush and toothpaste What can be the reason What should I do?

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user foul mouth odour can be due to a variety of problems. Most commonly, it indicates bacterial deposits on your teeth (plaque and calculus), which can be easily eliminated with a professional cleaning by your dentist. Occasionally it might arise from food debris accumulation within tooth cavities that may need to be filled, or in spaces between teeth which may require more frequent professional attention and regular, thorough interdental cleaning. Occasionally, foul mouth odour might also arise on a background of certain systemic diseases, and would improve as those diseases are controlled. See your dentist and discuss the problem with them, so the appropriate solution can be identified based upon an accurate diagnosis. Hope this helps.

I am a 27 yr old man. I have throat pain, dry tongue & marks at mouth soft palate. What should I do?

If you think your dry mouth is caused by certain medication you're taking, talk to your doctor. The doctor may adjust the dose you're taking or switch you to a different drug that doesn't cause dry mouth. The doctor may also prescribe an oral rinse to restore mouth moisture. If that doesn't help, he or she may prescribe a medication that boosts saliva production called salagen. You can also try these other steps, which may help improve saliva flow: suck on sugar-free candy or chew sugar-free gum. Drink plenty of water to help keep your mouth moist. Brush with a fluoridetoothpaste, use a fluoride rinse, and visit your dentist regularly. Breathe through your nose, not your mouth, as much as possible. Use a room vaporizer to add moisture to the bedroom air. Use an over-the-counter artificial saliva substitute.
