I have diabetes since last 15 years and it is largely controlled but time and again it goes beyond the regulated limits. I am experiencing pain in my feet and maybe because of neuropathy, and there is also a sense of numbness. Lately is is seen that the third toe on my right leg has curved downward. Can you suggest treatment for the above and who should be consulted. Thanks/regards

M B B S, M. D (Internal Medicine)
General Physician, Nellore
If your glycated hemoglobin is within fair control, then you need not bother about occasional rises in the sugar levels. Neuropathic pains are treated symptomatically. They are expected to happen after so many years. Do not worry about your toe. I think it is only age-related changes in the joints.

Im a type 1 diabetic patient & working for a BPO. Does change in shift's affects my health?

Im a type 1 diabetic patient & working for a BPO. Does change in shift's affects my health?
Mr. Lybrate-user, having t1 dm does not make you more vulnerable to shift working. But you have to meticulously manage your insulin injection dosing and food intake more carefully. Plus try and get good rest, as t1dm can increase tiredness unless sugar levels are well controlled. Plus avoid consuming junk foods and pastries. If you feel hungry consume more of fruits and green leafy vegetables and salads. That should be more beneficial.

What are symptoms of typhoid?

LCPS, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
General Physician,
If a high fever persists for 4-5 days even after routine medications, suspect typhoid. But only a doctor should diagnose and treat it. There is no simple remedy, self medication or alternate medicine for typhoid. It's a serious disease to be treated by a doctor only.

Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling, MA In Clinical Psychology

Yesss, smoking creates lots of health problems. If you want to quit your addiction of smoking you need to create motivation in urself that you can stay without smoking. It helps to create your self confidence to quit it. Try to attaind narcotics anonymous meetings. Or you can take help from psychiatrist to deal with your withdrawal symptoms. Use positive substitutes like chewing chocklate, mithi soanf etc. But do not use smoking if you r going through craving. If you have any questions you can ask me anytime. Not to worry, best luck. I know you have the ability as well as power to come out from the disease of smoking addiction. Have a nice day.

How to Treat a Nosebleed

Fellowship In Head & Neck Oncosurger, MD - ENT , MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Gurgaon
How to Treat a Nosebleed

A nose bleed can take place due to a number of reasons, which usually all boil down to acute dryness of the nasal passages. The nosebleed and dryness can stem from sinus, allergic reactions, constant blowing of the nose, infections, and also during very harsh winter months when there is no lubrication in the nose. Nose bleed can also occur due to conditions, such as high blood pressure and when a foreign object gets stuck inside the nose.

Here are a few tips on treating nosebleeds:

  1. First step: The very first action when you experience a nose bleed should be to sit down. Once you are sitting, you should firmly pinch the spot that is soft. This lies just above the nostril. Do this for at least ten to fifteen minutes. The trick is to stay upright rather than lying down as this will bring down the blood pressure in the nasal blood vessels to stop further bleeding.
  2. Breathe: Breathe with your mouth as you lean forward to help in draining the blood into your nose, rather than out of it or towards the throat.
  3. Ice compress: Find a bag of frozen corn or peas in your freezer or an ice pack, and press this firmly against the nose to help in stemming the bleeding. As you are doing so, do not forget to cover the bridge of your nose with a towel so that it prevents you from catching a cold.
  4. Medication and side effects: If you are on any kind of anticoagulants that end up thinning the blood, then you may immediately want to see your doctor about a possible side effects and a change in the medication. This could also be an effect of haemophilia where the bleeding does not stop.
  5. Children: If a child who is under the age of two years suffers from such nosebleeds, then you will need to rush him or her to the doctor immediately as it could point at a more serious problem.
  6. Anaemia (learn more about Anaemia and how it affects the health): Nose bleeds could also suggest the presence of anaemia, so you may want to see your doctor about lab tests to determine and possibly rule out this cause. You can also start medication accordingly for this kind of an ailment.
  7. Nasal Packing: The doctor can carry out this procedure with the help of gauze that can seal the spot where the bleeding is happening.
  8. Cautery: This is a minor procedure that involves burning the blood vessel that is causing the persistent bleeding with a stick of silver nitrate. The stick will be inserted after local anaesthesia is administered to the patient.

You must see a doctor for severe and prolonged bleeding.

Sweating of palms and feet can cured?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
No exactly. You need to use antiperspirant powder to dust. You can try aldry lotion application. Beside that iontophoresis is sometimes helpful otherwise inj botox is the final treatment. Whatever it is, you need to be under supervision of a good doctor/dermatologist in your area for decision of these mode of treatment.

I have 5.6 inch long pens and I want have more bigger and thick pens. What to do?
Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. SIZE, THICKNESS AND HARDNESS OF PENIS never matters in a sexual intercourse. Love and passion matters and determines the sexual pleasure. Usually, in flaccid condition, the size will be less than 2 inches. Average size of erect penis is 4 inches. But even a two inch erect penis can satisfy any woman across the world just because, woman sexual nerve endings which are the reason for pleasure for women, are available only up to two inches from the opening of vagina. Therefore, please don't worry. You can improve the size of your penis by massaging it with olive oil and doing kegal pelvic strengthening exercises. I suggest sex therapy and counseling. Take care.
