Hi, I am 29 year old and having knee pain since September 2017 and had treated with different doctors and they had given me calcium and vitamin tablets along with tendo care. Last week I did MRI of my right knee and found minimal fluid in knee joint and in suprapattelar bursa. Doctor told me continued the same medicines for 3 months more. I am confuses with this treatment and want to know the best solution to get rid of this problem forever. Please suggest me a good advice. Thanks in advance.

Hi lybrate-user. If it is a non septic knee effusion then you can manage this condition at home you can follow rice treatment means rest ice compression and elevation procedure by which help a lot .soon you will recover the problem. For pain take ift & ust physiotherapy treatment for 15 min each followed by cervical and shoulder mobilisation and strengthening exercises with hot and cold water fomentation for twice a day for 15 min each at home.

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Bhujang asana. Core strengthening exercises. Back stretching. Do the cat/cow stretch.

Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the knee against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang asana -- lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily.

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: take mag phos 12x - thrice daily for next 2 weeks and update. Also do x-ray of the affected area. Heat and ice packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately.

Sinovitis is an inflammation of the synovial fluid. It causes pain while taking stress on joint. Repeated friction movement may aggravate the situation. So avoid doing squatting, kneeling, half kneeling&excessive knee bending activities. Cold pack is beneficial with laser therapy &ultrasonic treatment. Kantiji, Thanks for the query. On treatment with thyroxine, one should be able to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, then only all the symptoms are in control. Therefore, your present dose appears to be inadequate. Better to increase by 12.5 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks, if level still more than recommended, then the dose may have to be increased again. Thanks.
