I am 28 and had kidney stones before 3 months but now u/s shows grade 1 prostate is this could happen in so early stage.
Ultrasound is an observer dependent study. Although it gives an approximate estimation of prostate size, merely the size of the prostate doesn`t determine management. As long as you do not have any symptoms related to prostate like increased frequency of urination, urgency, nocturia, hesitancy, intermittent stream of urine, straining at urination, nothing needs to be worried about. Anyways you are only 28 years old, and the symptoms of prostate enlargement usually start appearing from the age of early 40`s. Please do not worry, and please take adequate precautions to prevent the recurrence of the kidney stones. Hope this helps Thanks.

Dear, generally speaking what advice you have been given is correct and I do not have anything to add there but as a urologist I would think that passing blood in urine after straining of any sort amy it be dancing ou exercises or physical game, it suggests some pathology in kidneys initially get usg done with full bladder volume, wall thickness on full bladder and post void residual urine, obstruction, infection or stone or any other pathology must be ruled out.

Please, get the following investigations- 1) Ultrasound of prostate including post void urine volume. 2) PSA 3) Urine exam. Treatment depends on your symptoms and these reports. Mild problem can be managed with medicines. If you are having very much increased frequency of urination, and specially at night, then the definite treatment is endoscopic surgery (TURP)

Urinary Tract Infection - Do You Think It Can Be Prevented?

DNB (Nephrology), M.D ( Internal Medicine), MBBS
Nephrologist, Noida
Urinary Tract Infection - Do You Think It Can Be Prevented?

The structure responsible for production, transportation, storage and excretion of urine form the urinary tract. Kidney, ureters, bladder and urethra are structures involved in urine formation and excretion process. Kidney filters nearly 3 ounces of blood, removes waste materials every minute. When these get infected with entry of any micro organism or any other pathological condition, then the person gets urinary tract infection (UTI).

Causes and symptoms
Urinary tract infections are more common in women than men because of the small size of the urethra (4cms) and also because of the squatting position of voiding. Entry of organisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi are the major cause of UTI. The person may experience burning sensation and pain when voiding, fever is indicated when the infection has reached the kidneys or prostate glands in male. Other symptoms include pain in back, ribs, nausea and vomiting.

Preventive measures
Though antibiotics are used to treat the present infection there are increased chance of getting the recurrent infection. So it is best advised to follow the preventive measures to stay away safely from getting infected

  1. Drink plenty of water nearly 2- 3litres of water per day.
  2. Urinate when you feel the need , don’t control or resist voiding when you feel the urge as this may give room for the organisms to grow well
  3. Urinate after sexual intercourse. change the birth control measures if UTI is a recurrent problem
  4. Wash front to back, wipe off thoroughly after emptying the bladder so as to prevent the entry of organisms into the urethra.
  5. Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes. Always prefer cotton inner garments and loose fitting clothes so that air entry keeps the area moist and free from bacteria.
  6. Cranberry juice works best and it is the natural treatment for bladder infections. Cranberries have a special substance that can avoid the entry of E.coli into the bladder, but it does not have much effect on recurrent UTI infections

No need to worry. Usually RBC will be nil in urine, unless a infection predominates. For your report 1-2 is not significant to infection, but a consequent test will rule out any pathology in it.

I have stone in kidney 3 mm size. Is it curable by medicine. What medicine or caution I have to take.
Hi. Prevention of kidney stones may include a combination of lifestyle changes and medications. Lifestyle changes You may reduce your risk of kidney stones if you: Drink water throughout the day. For people with a history of kidney stones, drink 12-14 glasses of water everyday. If you live in a hot, dry climate or you exercise frequently, you may need to drink even more water to produce enough urine. If your urine is light and clear, you're likely drinking enough water. Eat fewer oxalate-rich foods. If you tend to form calcium oxalate stones, your doctor may recommend restricting foods rich in oxalates. These include rhubarb, beets, okra, spinach, Swiss chard, sweet potatoes, nuts, tea, chocolate and soy products. Choose a diet low in salt and animal protein. Reduce the amount of salt you eat and choose non animal protein sources, such as legumes. Consider using a salt substitute. Continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements. Calcium in food doesn't have an effect on your risk of kidney stones. Continue eating calcium-rich foods unless your doctor advises otherwise. Ask your doctor before taking calcium supplements, as these have been linked to increased risk of kidney stones. You may reduce the risk by taking supplements with meals. Diets low in calcium can increase kidney stone formation in some people. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Berberis Vulgaris Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice daily for 4 weeks. Revert me back.

I have 6.4 mm stone in my upper ureter. Doctor gave me urimax 0.4 mg for 15 days and told me to wait if I don't pass ...
As the stone is less than 5 mm and so in my opinion there is less chance of it to pass without any problems of colicky pain.
