Mr. Lybrate-user, the glucose levels mentioned show that it is totally uncontrolled diabetes. Hba1c% has not been mentioned. It is essential to have fasting blood sugar closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg/100 ml & hba1c% <7. Otherwise you are inviting serious long term complications of diabetes like retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, foot ulcers, non healing foot ulcers and amputation as well as silent heart attacks. So my suggestion is to start immediate treatment with appropriate medications, plus regular exercise and diet control.

Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated? What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

My mother hv Uric acid & thyroid problem. So, wht precaution should she take & wht are the food restrictions ?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

My mother hv Uric acid & thyroid problem. So, wht precaution should she take & wht are the food restrictions ?
Following are the suggestions for your mother:- The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then 'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. Kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500 mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

Hello sir, what to do in case blood sugar goes extremely low? In case if the victim is a diabetes person. Thanks.

Hello sir, what to do in case blood sugar goes extremely low? In case if the victim is a diabetes person. Thanks.
In a diabetes patient sometimes hypoglycemial does occur. If blood sugar goes below 70mg /100 ml or even further down below 50 mg then patient may feel dizzy. The best thing to do is give some sugar or gluco tabs which are available. Even candy can be useful. Hypoglycemia hardly happens in a normal person. Hypoglycemia is more common in patients who are on insulin injections.

Dear lybrate-user, There is no harm in taking whey protein or protein supplements to gain muscle. But it depends on quality and quantity of strength trainning. Protein is very essential to keep the sugar levels under control. Do go for a personalized diet plan for best results. Warm Regards,

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a a condition that has to be treated for the lifetime. You should not stop treatment on your own because of normal or low TSH level. Dosage of Thyroxine needs to be adjusted. Since you have stopped the treatment on your own, it is possible that TSH level might have gone up resulting in to increased hypothyroidism. Thanks.

Now I am feeling little ok not full and now is the fourth day I am taking eupatorium perf powder. Please note seriously what I am telling, the diagnosis will itself speak. These are my practical experience which I can say are 100% correct. Before this fever starts about 3--4 days before patient feels headache (mild) and feeling of tiredness which he owes to his busy hectic routine. After 3--4 days there is sudden onset of high temperature accompanied by chills for 15--20 minutes followed by warmth and patient starts throwing all bedsheets and blankets at this time temp is between 102-- 104 degrees which drops after half an hour. Now the temp rises once in 24 hours may be visible or only patient feels this is accompanied by severe headache and body ache this symptom remains for about 1 hour and goes to normal without taking any medicines. This happens daily until proper treatment is given. There is vomitting feeling bitter mouth taste, loss of appetite, and progressive weakness. Above features make the patient normal life miserable. Please note in this urine colour is slight yellow or normal. If the above feature matches with your symptoms than you are having malaria which needs proper treatment at an earliest. As regards homeopathy I have no knowledge. If you wish in allopathy I may tell you. Take tab grandem with tab acilock150 mg twice daily after breakfast and dinner. Take tab cefolac-- o 200 mg + tab flexon twice daily after one hour of above noted medicines. Take tab lumerax 80 mg twice daily with milk. Only for 3 days. Take tab trinerve - lc one at bedtime. If fever sometimes rises you may take tab crocin advance when required. Take all these medicines for 7 days except lumerax (only 3 days) after 7 days let me know response for further advice on lybrate paid consultation service.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it appears that only metformin is not enough in controlling your diabetes, that is the reason hba1c has gone up. You need to add some more drugs to the treatment for better control of blood glucose. Another aspect your weight is high and bmi is 27.77 kgs/m2, (normal <23 kgs/m2). That also contributes to increased blood blood glucose level. There is an urgent need to add a new drug. If you are willing to do that, then please come in a private conversation with current blood sugar details (fasting and pp). Then I can advise. Or else if you want to weight till your return then my suggestion is exercise more vigorously daily, increase dose of metformin to 1500 mg to 2000 mg daily, tisll you return. Thanks.

Why is Coconut SO good for you?

Why is Coconut SO good for you?
Apart from its use in many Indian homes for traditional reasons, coconut has several health benefits to offer -

1) Helps diabetics by slowing sugar release into the bloodstream.
2) Boosts metabolism and increases energy because it is more likely to be burned as fuel than stored as body fat.
3) Helps treat malnutrition because it is easy to digest and absorb.
4) Kills disease-causing bacteria, fungi, yeasts and viruses because of the antimicrobial effects of its fatty acids.
5) Prevents strokes and brain disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
6) Prevent tooth decay - coconut oil fights bacteria responsible for tooth decay and could be a healthy, non-chemical additive in toothpaste and mouthwash.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. In hypothyroidism if TSH is not well controlled weight increase, dry skin, dry hair and hair fall, irregular menstruation, muscle and joint pains, swelling of face and legs and anxiety etc symptoms are quite common. First thing is to bring down TSH level <3 mU/L. Without that there is no improvement. Plus efforts to reduce weight will not succeed. Same is the case with dry skin. So please check your TSH and come back. There is no special diet required, what is needed is to reduce the food intake so that caloric intake matches your ideal body weight (62 kgs). Plus regular exercise. Madam if you can not give time to maintain your own health then there is no way I can be of help. Thanks.

The burning sensation is only due to your diabetic. So first let the diabetic is under control, then automatically the burning sensation will subside. So let me know whether your diabetic is under control or not.
