Your seamen analysis to rule out you fit or not. And irregular cycle you need to get investigated to rule out any hormonal efficiency or any scan reporu to see any problem in ovaries. If every thing normal them she can have three course of oral contraceptive tab. After that she may have regular cycles.

Hie. My mom have problem on knees amd her weight is quit more (82 kg) I am just afraid when she got old her legs got in more trouble so please help me how to short out with her weight and knee problem. Plzz help me before it 2 late.

MS - Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Chennai
82 Kgs is not too much. A good regimen of walking 1 hour a day and diet control will help reduce weight. The only way to save the knees is through exercise. See a physio and start Quads strengthening exercises for the knee. Ask mum to avoid squats and reduce stair climbing.

My mother aged near about 55 years having severe back pain knee pain and sometimes upper back portion of the body. I have consulted almost all orthopaedic doctors in lucknow but this pain is not going. Kindly advise me what to do.

FIPM, MD
Orthopedist, Thrissur
Dear sir, the most common cause of the pain you have described is osteoarthritis of the knee and in the back of the facet joint. Traditional treatment plans often fail to provide adequate pain relief and analgesic medications work only temporarily. As recovery is a complex issue including interventional pain management, exercises and medications, I would need to examine you personally to comment. For the time being I suggest that she start regular warm-up exercises and walking atleast half an hour daily. Regards,

I am 49 years old, I am suffering with right knee pain with swelling from 2 years, what should I do?

DNB, MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hello welcome to lybrate. Your knee pain can be due to osteoarthritis, low vitamin d or raised uric acid levels. To start with get the following investigations: x ray both knees ap and lateral views and blood tests fasting: calcium, phosphorous, alkaline phosphatase, vitamin d levels, uric acid and revert back with reports. Learn quadriceps strengthening exercises from a physiotherapist and do then 20 mins 3 times a day. Avoid squatting on the floor or sitting on low chair or indian toilet. Hot fomentation with a rubber bottle will also help.

Try few things for your back pain: - Apply Ice and Heat Heating pads and cold packs can comfort tender trunks. Most doctors recommend using ice for the first 48 hours after an injury -- particularly if there is swelling — and then switching to heat. You can use whichever you find comforting as long as your skin is protected. - Limit Bed Rest Studies show that people with short-term low-back pain who rest feel more pain and have a harder time with daily tasks than those who stay active. -Keep Exercising Activity is often the best medicine for back pain. Simple exercises like walking can be very helpful. But remember to move in moderation, Stay away from strenuous activities like gardening and avoid whatever motion caused the pain in the first place. -Maintain Good Posture Most people have poor posture when going about their daily activities, putting unnecessary strain on their backs. -Strengthen Your Core Most people with chronic back pain would benefit from stronger abdominal muscles. If the abdominals are weak, other areas must pick up the slack. When we strengthen the abdominals, it often reduces the strain on the lower back. - Improve Flexibility Too much tension and tightness can cause back pain. By increasing flexibility you need to put an equal load throughout the body from the feet all the way up to the head. -Sleep the Right Way The amount of rest you get is important, and so is the position you get it in. Sleeping in a bad position or on a mattress without support can cause back pain. Back sleepers should put pillows under their knees. Side sleepers should place pillows between their knees to keep their spine in a neutral position. Stomach sleeping causes the neck and head to twist and can put undue stress on the back. -Use Relaxation Techniques Research shows that practices such as meditation, deep breathing and yoga, which help put the mind at rest, can do wonders for the back. -See a Specialist Developing an individualized exercise plan is essential to managing chronic back pain. Some patients need more core strengthening while others benefit mainly from stretching and improving flexibility. Please consult a Orthopedic Physiotherapist for the right exercise plan. Best wishes.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Further do some wrist rotation exercise. Consult after 5 days. For further guidance and treatment.

I am a 22 year old male. I met with an accident 2 months ago. I broke my forearm in two pieces. Both my radius and ulna bone were completely broken. My hand undergone ORIF surgery and my arm was put in a cast for 6 weeks. Its been 2 weeks since I removed the cast and I have difficulty in moving my wrist. Its looking very stiff even though its my forearm that was broken. My doctor suggested me some exercises but its still very painful and hard to do them. Can you help me to resolve this issue.

FFCB ; D Ortho, MBBS
Orthopedist, Thane
Yess lybrate-user. After forearm surgery as your forearm kept in cast for 6 wks. Surgery mostly nailing of both bone. Generally after surgery; forearm kept in cast. Don't worry of present wrists pain as it goes off slowly. As you start forearm exercise like flexion extension; supination and pronation. Your elbow function return back and pain will reduce accordingly. Continue calcium supplement 1 more moth. If wrist pain the more take analgesic.

Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold). Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment knee is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the knee with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Kota
Lower back pain you can do it this exercise, 1 Lying on your back, bend your right knee into your chest and place a strap or rolled-up towel around the ball of your foot. Straighten your leg toward the ceiling. Press out through both heels. If the lower back feels strained, bend the left knee and place the foot on the ground. Hold for 3-5 minutes and then switch to the left let for 3-5 minutes. 2…. Lying on your back, bend your knees into your chest and bring your arms out at a T. As you exhale lower your knees to ground on the right. Keep both shoulders pressing down firmly. If the left shoulder lifts, lower your knees further away from the right arm. Hold for 1-2 minutes each side I hope you will fit and.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually the management will depend upon the cause of your pain, so we will have to diagnose that first. Can you tell me whether there was any episode of injury to this shoulder, also tell me whether there is any swelling, skin redness, local warmth on touch or any other s/s of inflammation or infection present? also do you have issues of pain anywhere else in the body also? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

I am feeling heels (booths) pain last 2 years .So request to you please provide right treatment.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine), Certified in Evidence Based Diabetes Management, MNAMS
Internal Medicine Specialist, Kolkata
Thank you for the query. Heel pain may arise due to a number of causes. One of the commonest being a calcaneal spur (a small bony projection from the heel bone, calcaneum). An x-ray ankle joint (lateral view) proves the diagnosis. You need to wear soft soled shoes and pain-killers like paracetamol may be used. Ice pack local application may be done. As per the details provided, your bmi is borderline (25.78 kg/m2), hence weight reduction may be useful. Increased uric acid may be a cause, but this is unlikely to affect both heels together. Nevertheless, you can get a serum uric acid done. Calcium and vitamin d supplements may help. Degenerative bone disease may be another cause. Please get in touch with an orthopaedic surgeon for further advice. Regards.
