I am sixty five. I have some puffiness below my eyes. 1. Is it due to some deficiency? 2. Can I get rid of it?

Usually due to BP changes. Get it checked. Or might be just insufficient sleep , diabetes, and age (skin laxity). Treatment is cosmetic surgery.

I am 20 year old male. Within 3 months of my joining as a software engineer mt eye sight increased by 0. 5. Doctor advised me to take arc glasses. My question is: should I move to crizal glasses for better results or is it waste of money. As I work on system for hours, please suggest me tips to maintain my eye-sight like what should be the brightness level thankyou

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
These glasses are too costly to be used. What if your number changes after few months; these will become useless. Better is go for lightweight glasses with additional features that will help you otherwise (like anti glare coating(for computer screens), photochromic glasses(for bright light prevention)).

Symptoms and treatment for Retinal Detachment

My name is Dr. Pandurang Kulkarni. I'm a Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Uveitis Specialist. I'll be talking about Retinal Detachment. A retina is a light sensitive tissue lying at the back of our eye. Light rays are focused on the retina where the impulses are produced and it is carried by an optic nerve to the brain where they are interpreted as images. Healthy and attached retina are necessary for clear vision. The middle of the eye is filled with a liquid called vitreous. It is in contact with the retina. As the age advances, the vitreous may shed and may separate from the retinal surface. Usually, the vitreous separation doesn't cause any problems but sometimes the separation can lead to the formation of breaks in the retina at one or multiple places.

Who is at a risk of developing retinal detachment? People with near sightedness, previous eye surgeries, severe eye trauma, family history of retinal detachment, retinal detachment in the fellow eye and presence of weak areas in the retina. Now, what are the symptoms of retinal detachment? A sudden increase in size or number of floatus, increase in flashes of light, drop in vision and appearance of shadow in the periphery of fluid transmission. The appearance of gray curtails like objects in the field of vision. Retinal detachment is a surgical condition. Retinal detachment is treated by pneumatic retinopathy, Sceral, Vitreo surgery or a combination of sceral and vitreous surgery. People at risk of retinal detachment should see an eye specialist regularly or at the onset of new symptoms which cause a problem in vision.

I have strain and irritation in my eyes due to long sitting on computer and also back neck pain.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
I have strain and irritation in my eyes due to long sitting on computer and also back neck pain.
Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Also, you could consider using a preservative free lubricant eye drop (use it 3-4 times daily). This would help in keeping your eyes lubricated and fresh. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care. Cheers.

You symptoms are suggestive chronic eye allergy. If it is recent, try home remedies such as washing with plain cold water, applying cold packs to closed eyes, taking a short period of rest. This usually helps. If you are studying hard/sleeping inadequately, travelled excessively, have cold or cough - take care of these events as much as possible, it will help. You will benefit from some eye drops which give instant relief from eye allergy and also additional eye drops which actually prevent eye allergies. But we are not allowed to prescribe online for open questions. Put this query in private online to any ophthalmologist, he/she can then suggest appropriate eye drops to give complete relief. Meanwhile, you can first try the measures suggested.

Hello, often when we are undergoing mental & emotional stress, our body tends to respond to it by disturbing our sleep & appetite. There are also times when we recognise our resources which help us survive the stress. Wanting to sleep is a way of your body to survive. It would be helpful if you are able to work around the stress by consulting a psychologist who can guide you to develop functional resources.
