How to reduce triglycerides? I have family history of heart disease. My triglycerides is 124.
Family history of heart disease and history of high triglycerides? high bad cholesterol does lead to inflammation within vessels on heart and every blood vessels of body. One can't change genes, one can change habits. Drink lemon juice and honey added to it with warm water every day on empty stomach. 2. Take apple cider vinegar in any form along with honey, juices does help. Take pomegranate juice. There are no studies, but people have been helped to bring down bad fats in blood. No harm taking above, except the sugar levels may show a slight rise. Taking good fats does help bring down bad fats. Take a spoon of desi ghee or butter and a katori of assorted nuts everyday to get protein and good fats. Exercise moderately does burn sugar and lipids.

However, when we take non-veg dishes cholesterol from outer sources enter our system which in turn increases the total level of cholesterol in our system. Kindly avoid mutton, beef, yolk of the egg, ghee, butter. Try to walk for at least 1 hour daily. I am 17 year old teen I am suffering from low blood pressure what to avoid to eat and can I consume carbohydrates and vitamins.

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Low blood pressure on its own will not cause any problem for your wellbeing. so you need not worry much about it. at the most you may feel giddy when you sit up from bed and stand up from sitting position. to avoid that, those two movements should be gradual and not suddent. as for food, any type of food which is normally cooked in the house is good enough. you increase your salt intake. no need for any extra salt. as it is Indian cooking contains more than sufficient salt, so no need for any addition. Good luck

Some incidents suddenly scares people. Example- Sudden Dog's bark in a lonely street when you are walking alone. Ya normally people get panic or get scared suddenly and normally they recover within some time but here is my problem, I feel like I can't recover easily. After any of this kind of incident, my heart feels like it may stop anytime a kind of uncomfortable in the mid chest and haven't seen any type of pain until now. But a type of uncomfortable scare at the mid chest. Normally recovers after a nap. Some times I wake up breathlessness too. But would be fine after a sleep. It has happened n number of times and my BP is 130/85 around and am 114 kg with 167 cms height. This condition subsides with Librium 10 SOS and have tried 2-3 times with my physician's prescription. I just wanted to know, is this an anxiety disorder or panic attack or something related to my heart, please advise.

Dear Lybrate user It seems like anxiety and even panic and/or phobia. There is nothing to be worried about as such. By mind training it will be alright and you will be able to recover from such thing which happens suddenly. Your weight is 100+ and that is alarming. I would strongly recommend you to do something for it. By mind training you can also lose your weight and that also very easily and permanently because weight loss is more of a psychological process. You can contact me in private for therapy. Good luck.

I am 44years old, past 1 year i am affected by cholesterol, but BP is normal. What can I do.?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
I am 44years old, past 1 year i am affected by cholesterol, but BP is normal. What can I do.?
high cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. you should be avoid bad habits ,fatty meal/oily foods/junk/fast foods/alcohol/smoking/noo-veg. take whole grain meal/oats/dalia/green veg./fruits/juice/ use garlic . you can take also cap. ecosprin gold-10 at night. and consult cardiologist.

How A High Salt Diet Increases Blood Pressure

B.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition), M.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition)
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
How A High Salt Diet Increases Blood Pressure

How a diet high in salt increases blood pressure:

  • The amount of salt you eat has a direct effect on your blood pressure.
  • Sodium plays a key role in balancing the levels of fluid in our bodies by signaling to the kidneys when to retain water and when to get rid of water.
  • When we eat too much salt, our bloodstream has more sodium in it than the surrounding areas of our body. This causes the water in those areas to be pulled into our bloodstream.
  • Thus salt makes your body hold on to water. If you eat too much salt, the extra water stored in your body raises your blood pressure. So, the more salt you eat, the higher your blood pressure.
  • A high-sodium diet can interfere with this delicate process and reduce kidney function. The result is less water removed from the body, which may lead to higher blood pressure.
  • The higher your blood pressure, the greater the strain on your heart, arteries, kidneys. Overtime these extra strain can damage kidney an lead to kidney disease.
  • As this reduces kidney's ability to filter toxic waste products out of the body which gradually start building up in the body leading to kidney failure.
  • Also, eating too much salt may mean that blood pressure medicines (such as diuretics) don't work as well as they could.

So spice up your life with salt. But cautiously.

All type of cholesterol is harmful? Or else Which are the useful cholesterol in food?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
All type of cholesterol is harmful? Or else Which are the useful cholesterol in food?
Men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesterol LDL (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "bad" cholesterol) HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) Triglycerides (fats carried in the blood from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into triglycerides and stored in fat cells throughout the body LDL cholesterol can build up on the walls of your arteries and increase your chances of getting heart disease. That is why LDL cholesterol is referred to as "bad" cholesterol. The lower your LDL cholesterol number, the lower your risk. If your LDL is 190 or more, it is considered very high. Your doctor will most likely recommend medicines in addition to making healthy lifestyle choices. After figuring your 10-year risk, your doctor will recommend a percentage by which you should try to lower your LDL level through diet, exercise, and medication if necessary. HDL Cholesterol When it comes to HDL cholesterol -- "good" cholesterol – a higher number means lower risk. This is because HDL cholesterol protects against heart disease by taking the "bad" cholesterol out of your blood and keeping it from building up in your arteries. A statin can slightly increase your HDL, as can exercise.

Hi, I am a 25 years old male. I am having mild chest pains; sometimes on left side, sometimes on right side. Usually the pains are while I'm laying down or sleeping. It's not so painful but it comes and goes, sometimes down the breast left side or right side. I did x ray and went to a doctor 2 weeks ago but he said my lungs and heart are fine. 3 weeks before I had sore throat and then cough for 2 weeks and then stomach pains, diarrhoea; my friend suggested it's from gastritis; so, I take medication, my stomach is fine now, and coughing is almost cured But still I'm feeling pains! Is there something I should be worried about? Do I need a urgent check up? Regards.

Please take the opinion of a cardiologist to rule out any major illness lurking inside. Some investigations may be needed to assess his health. He should also follow a healthy lifestyle for future health and fitness. Let him keep checking annually to maintain good healthy status. Revert back after the consultation for any clarification.
