We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning, root canal treatment & capping. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash.

I have dental problem. Bleeding in gums, gums are swelling and foul breathe. What to do? Some home made remedies.
Bleeding gums with swelling and foul breath are indicative of gum disease due to improper hygiene leading to tartar accumulation on your teeth. You need to visit your dentist and gets thorough dental cleaning done to get rid of the problem. After that you can maintain your teeth and gums by following the routine cleaning protocols. No home remedy will remove the tartar from your teeth. Some remedy may reduce the bleeding for the time being but any delay in getting the tartar removed may lead to recession (root ward movement) of your gums.

Periodontitis: How to deal with it?

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Periodontitis: How to deal with it?

Periodontitis is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and destroys the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss or worse, an increased risk of heart attack or stroke and other serious health problems.

Periodontitis is common but largely preventable. Periodontitis is usually the result of poor oral hygiene. Brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily and getting regular dental checkups can greatly reduce your chance of developing periodontitis.

In most cases, periodontitis is preventable. It is usually caused by poor dental hygiene.

Signs and Symptoms of Periodontitis

  • Swollen gums
  • Bright red or purplish gums
  • Gums that feel tender when touched
  • Gums that pull away from your teeth (recede), making your teeth look longer than normal
  • New spaces developing between your teeth
  • Pus between your teeth and gums
  • Bad breath
  • Bad taste in your mouth
  • Loose teeth
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

Risk Factors

Factors that can increase your risk of periodontitis include:

  • Gingivitis
  • Heredity
  • Poor oral health habits
  • Tobacco use
  • Diabetes
  • Older age
  • Decreased immunity, such as that occurring with leukemia, HIV/AIDS or chemotherapy
  • Poor nutrition
  • Certain medications
  • Hormonal changes, such as those related to pregnancy or menopause
  • Substance abuse
  • Poor-fitting dental restorations
  • Problems with the way your teeth fit together when biting

Treatments

Non-Surgical Treatments:

If periodontitis isn't advanced, treatment may involve less invasive procedures, including:

  • Scaling. Scaling removes tartar and bacteria from your tooth surfaces and beneath your gums.
  • Root Planing. Root planing smoothes the root surfaces, discouraging further buildup of tartar and bacterial endotoxin.
  • Antibiotics. Your periodontist or dentist may recommend using topical or oral antibiotics to help control bacterial infection.

Surgical Treatments:

If you have advanced periodontitis, your gum tissue may not respond to non-surgical treatments and good oral hygiene. In that case, periodontitis treatment may require dental surgery, such as:

  • Flap surgery (pocket reduction surgery): The healthcare professional performs flap surgery to remove calculus in deep pockets, or to reduce the pocket so that keeping it clean is easier. The gums are lifted back and the tartar is removed. The gums are then sutured back into place so they fit closely to the tooth. After surgery, the gums will heal and high tightly around the tooth. In some cases the teeth may eventually seem longer than they used to.
  • Bone and tissue grafts: This procedure helps regenerate bone or gum tissue that has been destroyed. With bone grafting, new natural or synthetic bone is placed where bone was lost, promoting bone growth.

In a procedure called 'guided tissue regeneration', a small piece of mesh-like material is inserted between the gum tissue and bone. This stops the gum from growing into bone space, giving the bone and connective tissue a chance to regrow.

The dentist may also use special proteins (growth factors) that help the body regrow bone naturally.

Hello lybrate-user, your teeth are fine but your gums are infected. The solution for infection is cleaning of teeth as well as gums. Firstly you have to remove all deposits present on teeth and are irritating to gums. After that at home also you can take care of them by- brushing your teeth properly twice daily and with proper technique. Use soft bristle toothbrush. Any toothpaste you can use but take a little quantity of it.

Hello lybrate-user, its common and normal to have ulcer on lips, specially upper lip following the ortho treatment, you must have been prescribed some ointments by your doctor, you need to apply them. If the problem still persists, you can use carding wax on the brackets (hooks in which wire is lodged). I can not prescribe you without looking at swelling and inflammation, for that pls consult in pvt with photographs.

I am chewing tobacco last 4 years. I am not open mouth. I don't eat spicy food easily. And under my mouth there is bluish colour around it. Please suggest me Thanks.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

You should just quit chewing tobacco. Meet an ENT specialist and let that person examine you thoroughly to rule out any extensive damage and to treat whatever harm has already being inflicted. Chewing tobacco is really harmful especially because it is known to cause oral cancer and oral submucous fibrosis (SMF). Since it is an oral habit there are many substitutes that can be used to replace the oral stimulation. Of course, since it is a stimulant you cannot get the same effect and that is worth the loss to give up this very addictive habit. A dense fibrous tissue is deposited in the submucosal layer of the soft palate and cheek, causing disabling symptoms like trismus. It contains betel nuts, tobacco, lime, catechu and permitted spices and flavors. The first four substances damage the sensitive mucosa, causing constant irritation and micro trauma to the mucosa. Chemicals present act as a toxin. The phenol in the betel nut, with its caustic burning effect, destroys the mucosa, causing oral ulcers. The betel nut also contains tannins, which act as astringents, precipitating protein and damaging the mucosa. Altogether, this substance is known to be physiologically addictive. You can use replacements like nicotine chewing gum (if you want the stimulant effect, especially in the beginning) or ordinary chewing gum, hard candy and any other orally satiating substance, especially when the urge is very strong. You would have got conditioned to the habit to different times of the day and different situations. You must particularly avoid those occasions and occupy yourself with something else attractive. You should get regular exercise, eat healthily, and get a good night’s rest every day. Visit a dentist and clean up your teeth and gums to wipe out all the reminders and damages of the habit. You may also get a thorough oral check up and treatment for any damages incurred.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. "Ulcers in the throat" or in he mouth? Because it is difficult to see throat ulcers clearly and count them. There is a possibility of throat inflammation plus ulcers in the mouth. Any ways, it appears you need some specific treatment both for inflammation (which could be due to infection) and ulceration. You will probably need B complex capsules plus an antibiotic for few days. Thanks.

Maintaining proper balanced diet and good hydration is very essential. You can have frequent sips of water and small portions of healthy food more frequently. Cleaning the tongue with a tongue cleaner is essential. Habits such as smoking, paan chewing, gutkha chewing and alcohol have to be stopped. If the white allergy persists, please visit a dentist.

I'm a boy 16 years old I do brush every day then also I have a problem of halitosis. It is genetically please reply.

Dentist, Gurgaon
I'm a boy 16 years old I do brush every day then also I have a problem of halitosis. It is genetically please reply.
hello vijay, first of all I want you to to know that halitosis or bad breath is never genetic and is completely dependent on your oral hygiene. deposition of plaque and calculus around teeth cause gum infection, swollen gums and bleeding gums. this is one reason for bad breath. another reason is deposition of yellowish white layer over tongue. there are various other reasons like gastrointestinal health, fever, use of some medicines, Etc. I advise you to visit a dentist for professional cleaning of your teeth. then follow the instructions given by the dentist very strictly. brush twice a day along with tongue cleaning. rinse your mouth after every meal. drink lots of water.

Chewing sugarless gum after a meal is a good way to substitute brushing in between meals; it can help remove food particles from between the teeth.
