My daughter is 4 months old. I want to know what is the right age to start putting her in walker?
Hello, I don't believe in the concept of walkers, that can hamper babays gait and bone formation.Let baby achieve his milestone naturally, just like you and me did.

Baby is 8 mnths, I've started working past couple of weeks. Baby was exclusively on breast feeding for 6 months, now started with formula milk n rice with vegs smashed. Passes morning stools normal but sometimes in the day when I'm away at work passes loose stools is greenish in color, is it normal? Kindly help because I've been pressurised at home to stop breast feeding him. I want to continue feeding till he is 2 yrs.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
I congratulate you for determination to feed your child on breast for 2 years. Yes you are cent percent right. So long as child is active, playful, passing frequent water like urine(not dark), and putting on weight, there is no reason to worry. Colour and consistency of stools can vary during early weaning period.

Oral rehydration therapy is only treatment needed for most children suffering from diarroea. Most cases of common cold do not require any medicine.

My son is one year old. He is in a stage where his teeth are coming. He is suffering with loose motion for the past 5 days.

MBBS, Diploma In Child Health
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
First you need to understand that loose motions are not due to teething per se., Children used to put hands into mouth because of teething, this causes infection and loose motions. So try avoid that. So don't worry unless he is dehydrated.

16 days old baby is vomiting just after breastfeeding from yesterday and stomach is getting bigger. Stool and urination are ok. Not sleeping properly. Please help me how to get rid of this ?

MBBS DCH
Pediatrician, Gandhinagar
This is regurgitation, not vomiting. Its normal after each feeding. Burp properly after feeding. No need for any medicine. Distended stomach is due to excessive gas passed by baby. Its normal.

Reasons Behind Iron Deficiency In Children!

Reasons Behind Iron Deficiency In Children!

Iron deficiency is a common condition in children. It occurs when there is a scarcity of iron in the child's system due to malnutrition. Iron is an extremely important mineral that is required for growth and development in young ones. It is an essential nutrient for formation of Hemoglobin, which transports Oxygen and Carbon dioxide through the bloodstream and it is also essential for the functioning of the muscles. If the child's diet lacks iron then the condition might worsen and turn into anemia.

Children need different levels of iron intake at different ages for proper development of all mental and physical faculties. As the child gets older and reaches the age of puberty, the requirement of iron and other minerals also increases. Deficiency of it causes anemia specific to iron.

Deficiencies can lead to various nutritional disorders that may cause severe complications.

The primary cause of iron deficiency in children is an improper diet which leads to a lack of nourishment. There are a number of other causes of the problem, some of which are as follows:

  1. Low birth weight
  2. Excessive intake of cow's milk at less than 2 years of age
  3. Feeding exclusively on breastmilk beyond 6 months of age
  4. Lead poisoning
  5. Gastrointestinal disease or infection
  6. Improper diet of the mother during pregnancy
  7. Chronic diarrhea
  8. Infestation of parasites in the digestive system.

If the problem arises due to dietary deficiency, it can be easily solved by making simple modifications to the child's diet plan. If the condition stems from other factors or diseases, the child must be taken to a doctor immediately for a medical diagnosis and remedial treatment. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.
