Root Canal Treatment

Master of Dental Surgery
Dentist, Gurgaon
Root Canal Treatment

The treatment to save and repair a badly infected or damaged tooth is known as Root Canal Treatment. The backbone of the procedure includes removal of the pulp which is the damaged region of the tooth, disinfecting and cleaning the pulp and finally sealing the area. The common problems that affect the pulp are a deep cavity, cracked tooth, pain or recurring dental treatment. The nerve of a tooth is not absolutely important for tooth’s functioning and health after it has emerged through the gums. Its only purpose is sensation – whether an item is hot or cold. It is not required for daily functioning.

Damage to the pulp or nerve tissue of a tooth can break it down and cause bacterial growth which in turn leads to an infection and an abscessed tooth. The abscess is a pocket that is filled with pus which is formed at the base of the roots of the tooth. Additionally, infection at the root canal can cause:

1. Loss of bone at the tip of the root.

2. Swelling that might spread to other areas of the face and body

A typical root canal treatment, which happens over a few office visits, involves the following steps:

1. X-Ray: In case you need root canal treatment, X-rays might be taken or previous X-rays could be checked in order to locate the area of decay.

2. Anaesthesia: Administration of local anaesthesia is administered to the infected tooth.

3. Pulpectomy: The diseased tooth is removed by making an opening at the area.

4. Filling: The opened roots are filled using gutta-percha material and sealed off using cement.

Dear lybrate-user, As per your description, you may be having a condition called Recurrent Apthous Stomatitis. This this nothing but the recurrent formation of ulcers in the mouth, it is very normal and you don't have to worry about it. If no pain or burning sensation and no symptoms then it may also be just sebaceous glands (Sweat glands)/ Fordyces Granules (a type of sweat gland in mouth) Few investigations is required as Vit. B12 levels, Folic Acid, Folate, RBCs, Stress evaluation, Constipation or other stomach problem evaluation, etc. Lifestyle evaluation like smoking, diabetes, etc.

Hi, I am 26 year old guy. Is it safe to go through root canal process I have cavity in my tooth.
Yes it is safe. If your cavity is too deep and there is pain root canal is necessary. Other wise simple restoration can be done without root canal.

An Apple a Day Keeps the Dentist Away

An Apple a Day Keeps the Dentist Away

Fruits, such as apples, might be sweet, but they're also high in fibre and water. The action of eating an apple produces saliva in your mouth which rinses away bacteria and food particles. The fibrous texture of the fruit also stimulates the gums and massages it. Eating an apple isn't the same as brushing your teeth with a toothpaste that contains flouride, but it can protect you until you have a chance to brush. Pack either a whole aplle or apple slices in your lunch to give your mouth a good scrubbing at the end of the meal.

Right jaw and right side above eyes paining how to avoid paining any tablet or home remedies.
In my humble opinion you should not self medicate without knowing the exact origin of pain. Taking medicines blindly will cause more harm than good. You should first get checked by your dentist to evaluate whether the pain is linked to any dental problem or not. If not then you should consult an Ophthalmologist (eye specialist) or where the dentist refers you. Hope this helps.

Hello sir I am Rahul I am 20 yrs old man n I have suffering from cavity problem so what should I do.

BDS, MDS - Orthodontics

You need to get your cavities filled (restored) as early as possible, if the cavities are deep and have exposed the pulp then you would need to get root canal treatment (rct) done.

Hello . I hope that you really don't bleed from you r scalp. Scalp in medical term refers to the skin and connective tissue covering your head. So o suppose you r bleeding from your gums. If that's the problem don't worry its treatable. Clips won't have bad effect on your teeth neither will cleaning. Make sure you keep your teeth clean and brush 2 times a day and use mouth was regularly. Visit your dentist and get a cleaning done.

Sensitive Teeth

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Sensitive Teeth

Is the taste of ice cream or a sip of hot coffee sometimes a painful experience for you? Does brushing or flossing make you wince occasionally? If so, you may have sensitive teeth.

Possible causes include:

  • Tooth decay (cavities)

  • Fractured teeth

  • Worn fillings

  • Gum disease

  • Worn tooth enamel

  • Exposed tooth root

In healthy teeth, a layer of enamel protects the crowns of your teeth—the part above the gum line. Under the gum line a layer called cementum protects the tooth root. Underneath both the enamel and the cementum is dentin.

Dentin is less dense than enamel and cementum and contains microscopic tubules (small hollow tubes or canals). When dentin loses its protective covering of enamel or cementum these tubules allow heat and cold or acidic or sticky foods to reach the nerves and cells inside the tooth. Dentin may also be exposed when gums recede. The result can be hypersensitivity.

Sensitive teeth can be treated. The type of treatment will depend on what is causing the sensitivity. Your dentist may suggest one of a variety of treatments:

  • Desensitizing toothpaste. This contains compounds that help block transmission of sensation from the tooth surface to the nerve, and usually requires several applications before the sensitivity is reduced.

  • Fluoride gel. An in-office technique which strengthens tooth enamel and reduces the transmission of sensations.

  • A crown, inlay or bonding. These may be used to correct a flaw or decay that results in sensitivity.

  • Surgical gum graft. If gum tissue has been lost from the root, this will protect the root and reduce sensitivity.

  • Root canal. If sensitivity is severe and persistent and cannot be treated by other means, your dentist may recommend this treatment to eliminate the problem.

Proper oral hygiene is the key to preventing sensitive-tooth pain. Ask your dentist if you have any questions about your daily oral hygiene routine or concerns about tooth sensitivity.

Kindly get the fillings done in whichever teeth you can, root canal treatment if one of the tooth which you feel is quite deep and can be saved. For all this you will have to go to a dentist as he or she might be seeing and if required taking an x-ray to plan your treatment. Please ensure to brush twice daily using correct brushing technique to prevent further damage.

I am having a little pain in my left jaw as I am eating something. Please help me.
We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

There should be a limited intake of soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices as they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

Dental Tips for Looking Younger
Your mouth is more than just a pretty smile. It's also a gateway to your overall health. Keeping that gateway clean may keep you healthier longer -- and looking younger.

Just as white, straight teeth convey youth, a smile with crooked, discolored, worn, or missing teeth is associated with an aged look.

Keeping a youthful mouth comes down to two simple, proven, and practical steps:

Brush and floss daily
See your dentist every six months.
If there is misaligned teeth get it corrected.
If there is gap between teeth can be corrected by orthodontic or cosmetic correction using crown or dental bonding
If there is stain due to tobacco, smoking get scaling done.

Beautiful smile is add on to your personality visit your dentist and get confident smile
