Is this normal to get blood from saliva in Blood cancer? It's is normal or some serious problems?

DNB (Oncology), M.B.B.S

Hi Lybrate user, Spitting of blood in saliva is a presenting symptom in many disorders. Blood in saliva commonly come from the mouth, the nose, and other parts of the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts problems. Finally comes the cancerous condition. The detailed history like when it started, frequency, quantity, consistency and investigations helps us to tell you what is the real cause. Get checked with your family physician once for a healthy life. Take care.

My mother is a breast cancer patient. Her chemotherapy is going on. She has certain fever now. What should I do? Comment fast please.

DNB (Oncology), M.B.B.S
Oncologist, Chennai
Hi, please check on the blood counts. Immunosuppression is the most common reason for fever during chemotherapy. She needs to evaluated to rule out neutropenic fever. If found with neutropenia she needs hospital care with necessary treatment. Take care.

Hi, Self breast examination is the best way done at home to detect the lump. Any swelling increasing in size, nipple discharge, nipple retraction, swellings in the axilla, skin nodules over the breast are the major symptoms of breast cancer. Clinical breast examination is advocated for all patients along with mammogram above 40 years as a routine. Younger patients with any family history can get checked earlier with USG of both breasts or with MRI breast. Cancer is curable if detected early. Have a healthy lifestyle.

I am 32 years old female, I want to know what are the preventive measures that we as females need to take to be safe from breast and cervical cancer. How can we improve our lifestyles.

Hi, We are having many screening tests for breast and cervix. Healthy lifestyle including proper exercise, sleep, food helps to prevent cancer. Obesity is one for cause for breast cancer. Clinical breast examination, self Brest examination, mammogram are the screening tools for Breast. Pap smear is the screening tool for Cervical cancer. You need to be physically present for these screening procedures.
