Eustachian block in ear is a normal problem right. Pls advise me I am scared about this.

BHMS
Homeopath, Secunderabad
It can be a minor problem or may lead to a major problem if the underlying problem is not treated. You have check whether you have sinus problems (sinus infection) or constant cold or allergies etc. If there is any specific complaint then it should be checked by a doctor so that the correct diagnosis and treatment can be given. There is no need to worry if you don't have ENT problems.

This appears like Ear drum perforation as a result of cold and middle ear infection. Ear must be kept dry with no liquid entry of any type. Wipe outside with cotton buds. You require aggressive treatment of nose congestion, cold and chronic infection. Once dry Ear drum reconstruction surgery may be considered. See ENT Specialist for the management.

I Am Prateik 23, I have been continuously suffering from cold ND cough for around 20 days. Now I m having some kind of irritation in my throat. What should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Drink plenty of warm fluids. Drinking warm fluids helps to loosen the secretions in your sinuses so that your mucus flows more freely, making you feel better faster. Studies show that drinking warm fluids relieves cold symptoms such as runny nose, cough, sneezing, sore throat, and fatigue. Also take Hepar sulph thrice daily for next few days. For further queries get back to me.

Hi I'm 23y years old I have bald portion above my left ear I have tried many medicines but not a single hair is back what should I do now.

Diploma in Trichology - Cosmetology, MD
Trichologist, Mumbai
Is the bald patch just above the left hair or is it above the right ear as well? if it is only above the left ear, you can fill that area with hair transplant, its a procedure where hair from other part of the scalp is taken and implanted in the required bald patch. Once a bald patch has appeared it is nearly impossible to grow natural hair in that area with oils and shampoos. Also its important to understand in detail why the bald patch has appeared on the left side and the cause of it.

I wanted to inquire for my mom about vertigo. The doctor has given her medicine for the same and asked to continue with the course for 3 months. But the effect of the medicine is very temporary. As in, the symptoms like loss of balance and blankness return as the effect of the medicine fades. Is this how the treatment proceeds. Is it normal or should the effect be more permanent?

MS - ENT,MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Kolkata
Vertigo is a medical term which describes a sense of rotation even while stationary. It can often be confused with lightheadedness, generalised weakness, dizziness . Vertigo may be caused by problems in your peripheral (Ear &balance mechanism inside ear known as the vestibular system) or central nervous system. A complete checkup is required to isolate the cause. Peripheral vestibular  system causing vertigo symptoms may need initial medications to stabilise followed by Vestibular Rehabilitation  exercises. A good quality  of life can be achieved if properly managed. Basic investigations: A Pure tone audiometry  and tympanometry  can detect any problem in the ear nerves and tympanic membrane pressure (both of which can be abnormal in case of ear diseases) An Xray of the Cervical Spine (AP /Lat/Lat-oblique to check for cervical spondylitis CT brain and a complete  haemogram  are some of the baseline tests needed for a good evaluation  of vertigo. A cause of vertigo often difficult to diagnose is  BPPV Benign Paroxysmal  positional vertigo BPPV can be treated with Epleys manoeuvre  and Vestibular  Rehabilitation  exercises. With regular vestibular exercise you can be symptom free  and lead a normal life. You have not mentioned  whether your mom has Hypertension  ,DIABETES, Or any other problems.  Any blood tests done like PPBS, Thyroid function  tests, complete haemogram .Any history of head injury or neurological  problem?  Dizziness can be due to generalised weakness, Cardiovascular ,neurological or Ear-brain-balance problem. *Hope this helps Thanks

I'm a teenage girl. After masturbating, I start getting slight headaches, dizzy and the areas around my ears are somewhat numb and hot like I'm having a fever. What should I do.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Drink a glass of warm milk daily. Secondly if you have sensitive skin - apply Vaseline on the finger first and then masturbate. Due to hormonal changes the things are happening and it will settle down soon. For further queries get back to me.

I am having head ache at times at back side of my head. Had sinus problems before and surgery was done years ago. Can you please help with this.

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
Pain at backside of head is generally due to problem in cervical spine (spine of neck). 1. Intervertebral disc prolapse in cervical spine. 2. Neck muscle strain. 3. Occipital neuralgia: entrapment of nerves at back of head. Diagnosis can be made by detailed symptoms of patient and examination findings. Mri cervical spine may be needed to confirm the diagnosis. Follow these tips to get relief; 1. Take simple analgesics like paracetamol or ibuprofen round the clock for 4 to 5 days. 2. Apply warm water bag on neck if you find it soothing. 3. Do neck stretching exercises after pain is relieved. 4. Maintain good posture during work or reading to relieve neck strain. Avoid reading or computer work with neck bent. Keep text books at eye level. 5. Consult a pain specialist to get relief from severe pain with injection known as occipital nerve block at back of head. If problem is persistent you need to consult again.

My Father has tinnitus and day by day sound in ear is increasing Can he use tablet TINNEX.

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
ENT Specialist, Kolkata
Yes he can use tablet Tinnex but he may not get benefit, as few drugs are capable of controlling tinnitus. Consult a good ENT surgeon / audiologist for audiological investigations and non pharmacological therapy of tinnitus.
