All You Need to Know About Prevention of Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is one of the most common form of cancer that affects women across the globe. This cancer is one of the few forms of cancer that can be avoided by vaccination at an early age. If detected early, cervical cancer is easily treatable through a combination of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.

Here are a few FAQs on Cervical Cancer that most people often want to know about.

Q1 What is Cervical Cancer?
A: Cervical Cancer is the cancer of the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina.

Q2 What causes Cervical Cancer?
A: Cervical Cancer is caused by a virus known as human papillomavirus, or HPV. Women can get affected with the virus by having sex with someone who has it. HPV is very common and usually goes away in time. Usually, it leads to genital warts and sometimes shows no symptoms at all. Sometimes it leads to cervical cancer.

Q3 What are the early symptoms of cervical cancer?
A: The early symptoms of cervical cancer are:
Pain during sex
A sudden change in the menstrual cycle
Abnormal vaginal discharge
Vaginal bleeding between your menstrual cycle, after having sex or after menopause.

Q4 What are the preventive measures for cervical cancer?
A: Cervical cancer can be prevented by taking a vaccine against HPV. Regular PAP tests are also recommended for catching the cancer early on.

Q5 At what age should the HPV vaccine be taken for it to be effective?
A: The recommended age for boys and girls to take the HPV vaccine is 11-12 years. Women can have the vaccine before the age of 26 years.

Q6 Is the HPV vaccine safe?
A: Most of these vaccines are safe and come highly recommended. Many studies have been conducted to find otherwise but the fact remains that the vaccines are one sure shot way of reducing the chances of getting HPV. However, it is important to take any of these vaccinations under strict medical practitioner’s guidance.

Why we can not stop the growth of the cancer cell and why the ratio of diabetes in america is high.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Cancer is caused by abnormal uncontrolled proliferation of cells which may be triggered by some genetic mutations may be due to chemicals, pollution, radiation etc. Since the cause lies at genetic level the treatment has to be at that level only, but it's really very difficult to find out faulty gene which is controlling the whole process, lots of researches are going on, we may have some solutions in years to come. American lifestyle, eating habits are responsible for lifestyle related illness.

My friend is suffering from severe leg pain n left breast pain. why is it so. Is there any tablet to cure the pain?

My friend is suffering from severe leg pain n left breast pain. why is it so. Is there any tablet to cure the pain?
Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Please mention the symptoms. If pain in breast , is there any relation between pain breast and menstrual cycle i.e. pain is more during pre-menstrual phase. As per ultrasound findings Bilateral breast cysts are likely to benign breast disease or fibrocystic disease of breast, nothing to worry if symptomatic then require treatment. For SOL in rt. upper outer quadrant : If palpable go for FNAC. If not Palpable then ultrasound guided FNAC.

My wife is undergoing chemotherapy sessions towards treatment of breast cancer. Her appetite and sleep are severely affected. She has spasms at the base of the spine and thigh muscles. Unable to sleep at all on her back. Is there any ayurvedic treatment that can bring her relief concurrently with chemotherapy.

Medical officer, BHMS, CGO
Homeopath, Kolkata
Those are the side effects of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is an immunosuppressant therapy and while a patient is already suffering from cancer she has already a low immunity over it again an immunosuppresant dosage it will make the patient feel low. I need the detailed report and prescriptions of the treatment she is undergoing then I can say whether I will proceed with Homoeopathy or not. So you need to send the reports and if the case can be talen then book for my consultation and I will suggest you with the medicines and needful. HOMOEOPATHY IS THE ONLY STREAM WHICH ACTS ON NANO PARTICLE STATE WHICH IS NECESSARY AND FRUITFUL IN MALIGNANCY AS IT CAN HIT THE CAUSE IN TH ROOTS and without any side effects effectively. Homoeopathy works miraculously on Breast CA. Now its your choice. Dr. S DAS HOMOEOPATHIC ONCOLOGICAL CONSULTANT

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
dear sir, for suspected adrenal Tumors you can get blood and urine investigations done along with radiological scanning. Blood investigations may be related to assessment of hormonal levels like testosterone, aldosterone levels, cortisol levels and radiological scanning may be CT or MRI to know about local extent. You have to be in consultation with a physician for the same.

I am suffering from cancer on abdominal muscle, which was removed by surgery and radiation given on September 2012. Spindle cell sarcoma. Till now, I am under medical review every 6 months, I am afraid whether it will come again. What shall I do to stop re occurrence again.

Well Mr. Lybrate-user. I appreciate you seeking help. As I understand, the prognosis stands better usually in surgeries with clean margins. A clean surgery can, at times, be difficult especially for sarcomas in the abdominal muscle considering proximity of the other abdominal organs, and surgeries in such cases are most likely to be followed by chemotherapy/ radiation as deems appropriate by the oncologist (s). Apart from the above-mentioned, stage and grade of the cancer could also impact the chances of recurrence. Nevertheless, having already gone through the treatment procedure successfully and having already completed over three and a half years of disease free survival, I would only encourage you to stay positive, hopeful and brave as ever. Do see your doc/ oncologists for medical review regularly as advised. Besides the guidelines from your doc (s) which you need to follow strictly, I would advise you to stop tobacco smoking & restrict alcohol consumption, if any. Try maintaining a good health by being physically active, consume healthy/ nutritious diet (preferably mediterranean) with emphasis on plenty of leafy greens and fresh fruits, stay well hydrated, adopt a healthy lifestyle and de-stress regularly. A relaxed and stress free mind is also known to have positive impacts on health. In this connection, I would advise you to practise relaxation techniques like yogasanas (like'savasana'), meditation, listening to soothing music, social interactions, attending or viewing spiritual programmes etc all to stay relaxed and happy. The above-mentioned dietary and lifestyle recommendations may help lower the risks of recurrence or other cancers if not stop it completely. Do take care and I wish you all good health. Sincerely.

Prostate symptoms can be managed by medicines but if medical treatment is not reliving surgery is the only option. But cause of prostatomegaly should be evaluated first. Psa levels should be checked, clinical examination of prostate should be done. Ultrasound prostate should be done. If these findings indicate chances of cancer then proatate biopsy has to be done before deciding the treatment direction as treatment of cancer and non cacerous conditions differ significantly.
