We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) & clinical examination to decide upon treatment. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

But we can take x-ray scans to check for quality of your jaw bone and can advise you implant provided you hav controlled diabetes and if there is no major contraindication for implant. You can consult me in clinic to evaluate for possibility of giving artificial teeth.

I have toothache when I eat any cold drink.

BDS
Dentist,
Kindly get an x-ray done of the tooth having pain. May be you will have to get root canal treatment done followed by a crown or cap. Till then you can take a pain killer like tab ketorol dt 2 tablets dissolved in water. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene. Also avoid taking cold water as this may cause more pain.

Our natural colour of teeth is pale yellow or yellowish white. So does it mean i dont need to go for further treatment for my teeths ?

BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
Our teeth colour should match our skin colour so too white or too yellow r not needed. If u feel ur teeth are yellowish white than u need no whitening treatment but cleaning of ur teeth is must every 6 months coz that process will remove the calculus and tartar

Hello, I am 24 years old. Some bad smell from my mouth is coming even though after doing mouth wash with brush. So what should I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. My mouth is smelling how can I stop that all ?

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS
Dentist,
Hi, there are various reasons of bad breath, like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently.

On what factors should I decide which toothpaste should I use?

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist,
The majority of toothpastes available at the supermarket contain fluoride. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that helps fight dental decay by strengthening your teeth from within. It does this by being absorbed into weakened areas of your enamel and forming a hard mineral called flouroapatite, which is resistant to acid attack – the main cause of decay If your teeth are sensitive to cold, your dentist may recommend switching to one of the specially formulated toothpastes for sensitive teeth. The available choices generally contain potassium- or strontium-based salts that act to block off the tiny passageways (dental tubules) between the nerve of your teeth and the outside surface. The process is a gradual one, and you should allow a few weeks to build up a resistance to sensitivity. Switching to a toothpaste for sensitive teeth is often an effective, conservative method of dealing with generalised sensitivity Whitening toothpastes are perhaps the most marketed dental pastes available. They work mainly via the addition of abrasives into the paste. These act to mechanically remove superficial stains caused by caffeine, smoking, etc. on the outer layer of the teeth. Unfortunately, when used excessively, these abrasives can also wear away weak portions of the tooth itself and expose the inner (yellow) layer of the tooth. We do not recommend toothpastes with harsh abrasives, as they tend to damage teeth in the long run – both in terms of lost tooth structure and, ironically, loss of brightness. If you are more prone to dental decay than other people – due to the structure of your teeth, your medical history or your lifestyle – you may benefit from a high-strength fluoride toothpaste. These products are specialised for high-risk individuals and aim to deliver more protection against cavities than standard alternatives. Likewise, if you are at increased risk of periodontal (gum) disease, a specialised antibacterial toothpaste may be an option. The decision to use either of these products should be made only after a consultation with your dentist and as part of a comprehensive treatment plan targeting your risk profile. Assigned properly, these toothpastes can be useful adjuncts to maintaining your oral health at home. Hope i cleared you on tooth pastes

Best and Cheapest Oral Hygiene Therapy: Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil
Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil is the Best Oral Hygiene Treatment

Oil Pulling is a traditional Ayurvedic way of removing all the harmful bacteria, plaque and decay causing microbes from your mouth. All you have to do is squish oil in mouth for 10-15 minutes and spit it out. The best oil for oil pulling is coconut oil, although it can be done with sesame, sunflower or mustard oil.

Coconut oil has antibacterial and antiviral activity which makes it ideal for bacteria heavy oral region. The antimicrobial power of coconut oil combined with goodness of oil-pulling technique makes your oral health concrete - it can’t get better. Besides, coconut oil tastes good too.

I am 25 years old. I am getting sensitivity problem in teeth. So what toothpaste actually I should use? Problem arise...
Hi lybrate-user. It's a very genuine problem which you posted. Sensitive teeth can be few or many teeth. Basically this happens due to enamel (top most layer) of the teeth getting thinner or at times due to chipping off the layer. And initially it wud be sensitive to cold air, cold foods, cold drinks and sweets. Further as the problem increases it will gradually be sensitive to hot foods as well. There are two courses of action for this 1. Management of the condition as temporary means by tooth pastes containing potassium nitrate or strontium chloride. But all this is temporary 2. Treatment wud be a definitive course for this treatment. Could be done with layers fillings or other means kindly visit your dentist for the appropriate therapy hope I answered you well

The Chemistry between Calcium and Teeth

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Mohali
The Chemistry between Calcium and Teeth

Calcium phosphate is the main component of the tooth enamel so any deficiency in calcium can cause damage to the enamel. Calcium is not only required for having healthy teeth but also healthy bones and heart.

Healthy teeth are a sign of good overall health and wellbeing. There are many factors that impact the health of the teeth such as improper diet, smoking, and sugar.

Benefits of calcium for teeth

  • Calcium reduces the chances of losing a teeth
  • It reduces chances of cavities
  • Calcium, when combined with a proper nutritious diet, helps in increasing the longevity of the teeth
  • Calcium can reduce chances of gum disease
  • Calcium along with other minerals also help in improving blood supply around the teeth area
  • A calcium compound, amorphous calcium phosphate helps in fluoride absorption in the tooth enamel
  • It limits loss of mass in the jawbone
  • Calcium also fortifies the bones around the jaw to reduce bone problems such as loss of bone structure as one gets older
  • It helps in protecting the teeth from acidic components that cause tooth decay

To have healthy teeth, one needs to have a balanced diet that meets the regular calcium requirements besides following a healthy lifestyle.
