My 9 and a half months old daughter is taking medicine as prescribed by the doctor for cough n cold. But each time she takes medicine, she immediately vomits. So my question is" if she vomits on taking medicine immediately, should I give the same again then"

Must tell what medicines are given. If people just say" my child is taking medicines" how can anyone give an answer. Generally speaking, if the medicine is vomited out immediately before reaching stomach you surely can repeat and you must! to have any effect on the disease.

Pediatrician,
Sir my daughter is 1 years 5 month old. Yesterday she was suffering from loose motion, vomit. What should i do?
Hi. It is always better in this situation to keep her well hydrated with ors or other liquids. Solids like rice dals can also be given, also they can be mashed and given. Only water intake should not be encouraged. If child becomes drowsy or very irritable or not able to take orally then it is better to take further opinion hope this was useful. Thank you.

Impact Of Modern Day Gadgets On Kids!

Impact Of Modern Day Gadgets On Kids!

Childhood memories are always special, we often get nostalgic reminiscing about them. When we were kids there was a range of outdoor activities, games and creative things to do, something to look forward and run around. However, the definition of modern childhood has undergone a sea change.

If you have a child in your home, you will be acutely aware of the gadget addiction phenomenon. Be it a mobile, iPad, television or gaming console, children today are almost inseparable from their gadgets. From a 2-year-old baby to 12-year-old teenagers, all can be found glued to their favorite gadgets, due to which physical activity and outdoor games have ceased to exist in their lives.

Further, this addiction to modern day gadgets is triggering a negative impact on their health. A number of studies indicate that the incidence of obesity, depression, and even diabetes (juvenile diabetes) amongst children and teenagers is on a mercurial rise, because of such a lifestyle.

But who is to be blamed for this?

It is common knowledge today, that parents across that globe try to deliver the best of everything to their kids, but sometimes we forget that more than things and luxury, our kids need our time.

Here are some effective measures to curb the gadget menace

  • Communicate: As a modern working parent, life is extremely hectic. However, make sure you spend some quality time with your child daily. Talk to your child about different things and understand what is going in their daily life.

  • Understand your child: Communication paves the way for better understanding, but as a parent, you have to make an effort to understand your child, as each child is unique and so are their needs.

  • Educate yourself: Make sure you are fully aware of what is going on with your child and how he or she is doing throughout the day in different areas, be it school or other activities. Talk to the other parents, and know what your children's peer group are doing.

  • Engage them: Take them to parks, indulge in fun outdoor and physical activities. When your child refuses to eat or do a particular work, never bribe them with a mobile phone or a laptop. Instead, promise them a weekend picnic or a day out.

  • Reduce internet time: Make sure children below 8 years have either no access or reduced access to the Internet. In fact, children below 10 years should not be allowed to use mobile phones, but that is practically not possible in today’s time, so parents should make an effort to control that and make sure that their children are not spending unnecessary time on internet as not only it is wasting their precious time, but also affects their mental health too.

Lastly, do not let your child forget that there is more to life than video games and TV. Love them but don’t give in to your child’s unrealistic demands.

What Is Parental Depression? How to Support Each Other?

What Is Parental Depression? How to Support Each Other?

Parental Depression is an aspect which affects the innocent child, right from the time it is in the mother's womb.

Maternal depression could be due to various reasons ranging from familial disharmony to poor health. Unfortunately, a depressed mother's pessimistic thoughts could pass on to the pure soul inside her. So the effect starts in utero. After birth, she may be careless and negligent towards a child whose most important requirement is love. And children of these mothers become victims of behavioral and cognitive problems and poor school performers. They may also acquire the illness of depression eventually.

A depressed father will display stress and agitation instead of engaging the young minds in interesting learning or other activities.

Hence, before stepping into parenthood, it's important to be mentally fit and not just physically healthy. Exercise and meditation is of great help and of course a happy home environment.

Supporting each other is the key to getting things on track again.

  • Talk to your spouse: Chat with your spouse, showing affection, doing things with them and encouraging them to get out of the house are important.
  • Appreciate her but respect your family: Help her see that the family needs her and appreciates that she is expecting. While doing the same ensure that you respect the feelings of your family members.
  • Opt for specialist care: Offer to see a therapist and encourage her to take medications. Getting the help of an expert helps get guidance to handle difficult situations.
  • Be emotionally present with her: Go with her to as many antenatal checkups as you can, and make sure you are there for the ultrasound scans. This encourages a woman and gives her the satisfaction that her partner is involved.
  • Compliment her and pay attention to her: Many women find it difficult to cope with the changes in their body during pregnancy. She may be worried about stretch marks, concerned about weight gain or just be feeling not much like her old self. Make sure to compliment her and let her know how much you love her.
  • Be a shoulder for her to cry on: Listen to all of her concerns, and offer her the reassurance and support she really needs.
  • Be there to help: After the birth, your partner will need time to recover. She will be exhausted, sore and hormonal, and will be relying on you for support. Help with the baby, and do as much as you can.

Hi I am 24 years I am feeding milk to my child from the next day of delivery ,after 2 months the milk is not coming what shall I do.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
There should be any reason of decreasing of milk if you had been exclusively breast milk to the satisfaction of baby. Continue exclusive breast feeding till either breast is emptied or baby is satisfied. In case if after emptying of breast, baby remains hungry, give him top feed kept ready in hand. This practice may increase milk production provided you are taking good nourishing diet. Else you may consult obstetrician.

10 Unknown Facts About Tooth Whitening!

10 Unknown Facts About Tooth Whitening!

There is a myth that whitening erases all the damage they’ve done to their teeth over their lifetimes. The opposite is true — the better you’ve cared for your teeth, the greater the results. If you have kept up on your dental appointments, brushed and flossed regularly,  and avoided damage and discoloration, the whiter your teeth will appear after treatment.

Too much whitening gel too fast will permanently damage teeth.  Over-whitening can make them look translucent or discolored

Ultra-violet (UV) light is a frequency of light that works by accelerating the whitening gel to act faster.  This process is FDA regulated and only offered under dentist supervision. Caps and veneers will neither whiten nor stain.  Immediately after whitening (regardless of the product you use),  your teeth are more susceptible to restaining. The pores in your teeth are slightly more open and can more easily allow stains in.

 Teeth Whitening

Know Before You Go-If you have extrinsic discoloration (i.e. staining from things like coffee and tea) it can be removed by cleaning the teeth with professional teeth cleaning. Bleach will not work well on extrinsic discoloration. If you have intrinsic yellowing, no amount of stain-removing toothpaste can lighten the intrinsic color of the tooth. You’ll need to whiten your teeth using a bleaching gel that is held up against the teeth.

What we think & what happens actually

After whitening treatment  it is completely normal for sensitivity to occur.  The teeth become temporarily dehydrated which reduces their ability to insulate the nerve from changes in temperature. Sensitivity will disappear 12-36 hours after whitening. To prevent soft tissue irritation use gingival barrier.

My daughter aged 6 years suffering from epilepsy for four years since then after medical check up and test she is on valparine syrup without fail and she never had seizures after that as well. We were advised that the medicine will run for years. Should we continue with the same.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)

I don't know your past history of seizures but if you have given it regularly for 4 years and no seizure, I think you can slowly reduce the dose and stop it with constant watch for some time.

Hello, please see that is not having dehydration. For that you need to show her to doctor - to asses her hydration level. Also give her ORS in water. Go to your local pediatrician so that he can examine condition of baby. Take care.
