My baby is 2 months 4 days old? What should be his feeding schedule? He was born full time with 2.6 kg wt.
Till the age of 4 - 6 months he must be given only breast milk. Then you can start semisolids. You feed on demand (whenever he demands) sticking to 2- 4 hours apart.

Exam Fear - Exam Phobia - Tips

Exam Fear - Exam Phobia - Tips
Exam fear or exam phobia or exam anxiety is a performance anxiety. Examinations are almost always stressful. Students rarely know exactly what to expect on the test, and those who suffer from exam fear or exam anxiety can see their grades suffer as a result of this stress. A little anxiety can actually help your performance, but some students become so overwhelmed that they" seize up" and forget what they have studied. Exam anxiety can strike before, during and after a test. Battling this type of performance anxiety can be difficult, but good study habits and learning how to relax can help.

Step 1
Develop good study habits. Proper study habits and preparation are the keys to cutting out exam fear

Step 2
Keep your mind and body healthy by getting enough sleep, eating well and exercising.

Step 3
Meet with your instructor to aid in focusing your study sessions.

Step 4
Practice positive self-talk as you prepare for the test. Create a mantra to help you calm your test anxiety. Repeat a phrase, such as" I just need to do my best" or" I will be prepared for this test"

Step 5
Relax the night before your test. A last-minute review can help you remember facts, but fretting over last-minute studying is likely to cause you more anxiety.

Step 6
Beat the morning rush by waking up early. Give yourself time to eat a nutritious breakfast that won't weigh you down or feel greasy in your stomach.

Step 7
Manage your anxiety with relaxation exercises as you wait for the test to start.

Step 8
Scan the test to find questions that are easy. Answer those test questions to give yourself a confidence boost.

Step 9
Understand that you are not alone and ask for help as necessary. Exam fear is normal.

Step 10
Reward yourself after the test is over. The reward gives you the break you deserve after all of your studying. Treating yourself also helps you stop thinking about the test and analyzing every little mistake you may have made.

Please consult a psychologist for counseling and valuable tips.

When to Seek Medical Help for Epilepsy

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Sexologist, Mumbai
When to Seek Medical Help for Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a form of chronic disorder and it is characterized by recurrent seizures. The episodes of epileptic seizures may differ from person to person. These seizures could be a result of genetic disorder or a result of trauma or stroke. During a seizure, a patient may also experience symptoms of neurological disorders and sometimes lose consciousness.

Medical help for epilepsy
Epilepsy itself cannot be cured using medication, but proper medicines help in eliminating recurrent seizures. These medicines stabilize the electrical activity within the brain preventing seizures.

How effective is the medication for epilepsy?
The success of controlling seizures using medicines depends on the type and severity of the epilepsy. Medicines for epilepsy are usually very effective and may fully keep seizures under control. However, controlling seizures caused due to brain problems may be more difficult. Usually, epilepsy medicines can control seizures for a long period of time when they are taken regularly.

When is medical help needed?
The decision about when to start medicines for epilepsy is a tricky one. This is because a first seizure cannot confirm whether a person has an on-going epilepsy problem. A second seizure may occur after many years or may not happen at all. Prediction of seizures is also quite difficult.

The severity of seizures also indicates when to start medicines for treatment. In case a first seizure is quite severe, medication should be started at once. Some people have very mild seizures even though they may be recurring in nature, and medication can be avoided in this situation.

All the pros and cons must be thought over before starting medications for the treatment of epilepsy. It is advisable to wait for a second seizure and then start medications for treatment. In most cases, medication is started after a second seizure occurs, twelve months within the first seizure. You should always consult a doctor to know when you need to start taking medicines to treat the condition.

For making the most out of the medicines to control seizures, you should follow certain steps:

  1. You must take medications exactly as your doctor has prescribed.
  2. Before switching to generic versions of your medicines or before taking other prescribed medicines, you must consult your doctor.
  3. You should never stop taking the medicines.
  4. In case you experience enhanced depression, mood swings and suicidal thoughts, you should talk to your doctor immediately.
  5. In case you have migraine, you should let your doctor know so that he can prescribe you anti-epileptic medicines, which also prevent migraines.

Medicines cannot treat the underlying cause of epilepsy, but these help in controlling seizures and this is the most common symptom of epilepsy. Medication should be started at a proper time and must be continued without stopping.

My son who is 5 years gets lot of burps and has gas. Occasionally complaints of stomach pain. Any home remedy please.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Kolkata
Gas formation may be due to maldigestion of some particular food item. Its best to avoid such identified food items. If not possible them digestive enzymes or simethicone after foods might help.

Why You Should Talk To Your Little One Earnestly

If your toddler talks to you in gibberish what do you do? Experts tell us that you should act as if you understand what your child is speaking. It will encourage him to speak and he will pick up the mother?s tongue faster.
Parents? response to children?s activities makes a world of difference to their growth. If you indulge in a conversation with your toddler, he will feel encouraged to talk. Never mind if you can?t make out his blabbering. Words don?t matter, your attention does! Show interest and talk to your kid. Just wait and watch how quickly your baby picks up language skills!

It is not safe to use ofloxacin for longer eriond. It may also help the sore throat as an antibiotic. However it is not specific for throat infection. After giving oflox for two days, let me know the progress. I shall suggest better antibiotic. Anyway for the time being, for pain give meftal syrup 5 ml thrice. Reply with your city. It is necessary to know your place ( weather there) take care.

Cystic Fibrosis - Can it be Life Threatening?

PHD - Science

Cystic Fibrosis - Can it be Life Threatening?

Does your baby’s skin taste too salty when you kiss him or her? Did he or she not poop after being born? These symptoms indicate cystic fibrosis in your baby, which is a condition that changes the way your body makes sweat and mucus. It also affects the functioning of the lungs and digestive system. The condition occurs from a flawed gene. If you have cystic fibroids, your mucus may be too thick or your sweat can be too salty. Heavy mucus clogging in your lungs may affect your ease of breathing. This is a serious and life-threatening disease, but it affects different people in different ways.

Causes
The gene known as CFTR is present in everybody. It makes a protein which controls the amount of salt and water that are moved in and out of the cells of the body. In case of cystic fibroids, the CTFR gene is broken, which occurs if you inherit two bad copies of the gene. A bad CFTR gene may lead your cells to make the wrong amount of water or salt. This makes the body incapable of getting sufficient oxygen and nutrients, as the body loses them via sweating.

Symptoms
Apart from the primary symptoms, several other symptoms are also likely due to cystic fibroids. The common symptoms which your child may experience are as follows:

  1. Coughing up thick mucus, wheezing and shortness of breath
  2. Sinus infections, pneumonia, or very frequent bronchitis
  3. Development of polyps in the nose
  4. Bulky, oily and foul-smelling stool
  5. Low bone density, widening and rounding of the fingertips and weight loss
  6. In later life, cystic fibroids may cause liver disease, gallstones or pancreatitis.

Treatment
There is no specific treatment for cystic fibroids. Several treatments are followed for relieving the symptoms and help patients feel better, breathe easier and have lesser infections or stomach problems.

  1. Airway clearance technique can help you with breathing as the mucus from the lungs is cleared in the process. There are several ways to undertake airway clearance and special devices can be used for assistance.
  2. Several inhaled drugs such as salt solutions, steroids and antibiotics are used in thinning the mucus, clearing the lungs and fighting infections.
  3. Several medicines are used for fighting the inflammation and reducing swelling in the lungs.
  4. In case your pancreas are not working properly, you can take enzyme pills for digesting proteins and fats for absorbing more nutrients from the food you take.
  5. Vitamin A, E and D supplements provide the nutrients, which your intestine cannot absorb.

In case you experience the symptoms of cystic fibroids, you should consult a doctor immediately. This will allow you to go for an early diagnosis and effective treatment.

My daughter is 8 years old. She has suffering cough problem and disturb to take air in morning 3 am. Dust, hot temp, cold, is problem. A minor sound is release from chest when she take air. More cough is deposited inside the chest. Not disease food properly. Discontinue stool.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
As per your description, she probably has bronchila asthma. Try to avoid exposure to dust/smoke etc. Do not use deo, perfume or anti mosquito spray or coil in the bedroom. Give her steam whenever she has cough. Ensure that you give her influenza vaccine, this is very beneficial in such cases. She also might require long term inhalers, for which you have to consult your paediatrician.
