Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are:-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. I am 27 years female. Today is my 63 days since my last periods. I have took pregnancy test 2 times as per the proper prescription but the same came negative. What could be the reason. I have thyroid problem, but the same is under control and is in normal level since I am getting treatment from a thyroid specialist. Pcos can be another reason for irregular menses. Are you overweight? do you have family history of diabetes? is there any increase in facial hairs? get your ultrasonography done for pcos. There are certain hormonal test which might require to be done including insulin fasting, amh, hba1c, lh, fsh, sr testosterone free + total, shbg. Dheas, for further evaluation.

I am 55 years old having diabetes since 15 years, both the legs paining mostly night down taking tablets glimmy 2 2mg 2 times morning n night.

Diabetes affects the nerves in our limbs adversely. That is why, limb pain is a common complaint among diabetics. What you can do is, take folic acid andethyl cobalamine, eat lots of green vegetables, have milk and milk products. Exercise regularly and keep your blood sugar under check.

Hi drink some bitter gourd juice on an empty stomach each morning. First remove the seeds of two to three bitter gourds and use a juicer to extract the juice. Add some water and then drink it. Follow this treatment daily in the morning for at least two months. Take pranacharya diabeto and shilajeet capsule twice a day with water. Take vasant kusumakar ras twice a day. Avoid sweets. Take small meals in less time interval. Do pranayama early morning. Avoid alcohol consumption.

Probably it's your hypothyroidism which is causing constipation. Drink as much of fluid yu can and add salads n fruits. N walk daily for some time.

Hi I am (30 yrs) my uric acid is 6.6 and vit d 7.5.kindly suggest what has to be taken as I feel pain at the back side of the knee and at times in arm joints. I have been taking zyloric twice a day but still I feel pain while sleeping when body is at rest. This prob prevails for almost 3-4 yrs. Mr. lybrate-user, If pain persists, occasionally pain killers or NSAIDs can be taken for a few days when there is more severity. Plus you should also restrict intake of high purine containing foods such as organ meat, red meat, certain fishes like herring, scallops, haddock, sardines, salmons, mussels, and mushrooms. Alcohol and sweetened aerated drinks also should be avoided. Milk, eggs low fat milk products are a good protein supplements. Thanks.

I have recently been diagnosed with thyroid, my T3 is 163 from reference range of 58-159, T4 is 13 from reference range of 4.9-11.7 and lastly TSH is 4.720 from reference range of 0.35-4.97. My doctor has prescribed me thyroid medicine for 1 month and asked to do prayaam, walking and avoid food rich in iodine. Now I have 2 situations, first is I can take all precautions along with medicine and second without medicine, as because he said its slightly more than reference range. Please help me out with this. Also let me know what all food including vegetables and fruits, I can have and what not. Thanks.

In hypothyroidism:-- where there is deficiency of thyroxine hormone leading to sluggishness, tired feeling, weight increase, slow heart beats, intolerance to cold, swelling of legs, feet and face, difficulty in concentrating and at times in speech. Treatment for hypothyroidism is giving thyroxine tablets. And dose are according to level of thyroid for life time. Avoid bad habits . Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Go for walk, Take plenty of water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods,junk foods, go for walk. Do Tests every 3 to 6 months. And consut doctor on time.

Avoid spicy and sweet food, regular walking 30 minutes per day, avoid smoking and alcohol, if taken, avoid stress, drink plenty of water.

Mr. Lybrate-user. You are weighing more for your age and height and may be the reason for early onset of diabetes at an age of 24. Obesity causes insulin resistance, so you need to concentrate more on your weight reduction with some physical activity. In allopathy you need to take meds to control diabetes. To bring sugar levels to normal. 2/3of the sugar levels should be controlled by physical activity and for remaining 1/3 you need to take medication. This usually lessens the long term complications of the diabetes, reduced dose of the drugs and prevent early drug resistance. You need regular physician's care for your present health status. Hi. Lybrate user. Hypothyroidism can control with diet and medicines. Pl. Eat iodized rich foods i. E. Sea foods/ salt water fish/sushi/ nori rolls/celtic sea salt. Selenium rish foods i. E. Meat /chicken/ salmon/ whole unrefined grains/ brazil nuts / dairy products / garlic / onion / avoid foods i. E. Turnip/ kale/ cassava/ peanuts/ cauliflower/ rutabagas/ coffee/ spinach / soyabean products/ foods with gluten/ mustard green/ mustard / and take consultation with endocrinologist. Since your hba1c is near normal, it suggests that your long term sugar control is fine. What you need more importantly is strict diet plan and exercise. Take small frequent meals, avoid high sugar containing food. Take plenty of fibre rich foods. You may also be needing anti-diabetic medications suitable for your health profile. Consult for further query.

Hi Your diabetes is fairly controlled. With diet and exercise you can reduce it further without any change in your medicine dose. For your age I would recommend to target a HbA1C of 7 and less than that to prevent any complications in future.

How to reduce sugar?
To reduce blood sugar you have to take anti diabetic drugs, exercise more than 1 h daily, avoid sweets, sugar and excess eating. Taking prescribed medicines is very important.

I am 56 with bmi 28 and Diabetes due to chronic stress and sedentary life. For last 5 years my h1ac remains below 6.7 but morning is 135-165 and random is 180-250. I am on Glucophage 1x 500 mg. Feel bad in the mornings and fatigued. Will Any change in medicine or change of time of taking mef morning or evening recommended?

Mr. Lybrate-user, you have summed up the situation correctly that is bmi of 28 kg/m2 and sedentary life, these two are the main causes for a high blood sugar levels. Hba1c% 6.7 is good. However, if you really push yourself to exercise or walk every day for at least 1 hour, then you will notice things will change for the better. Your objective should be to cut just 5 to 8 % of current weight over next 6 months, that will make you feel extremely energetic, drug change or addition may be helpful, but lifestyle change is going to give a long term benefit. As regards the change of drugs or addition, you will have to come in a private conversation, where I can suggest an additional drug or a change. Reason being in this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines. You must be aware that your ideal body weight should be 63 kgs. So please consider this. With regards.

Hello. The pills can give you side effects. Miscarriage itself is so traumatic, do not give your body and yourself anymore trouble. Your diet chart: 8: 30 -lemon and honey in warm water, 1glass. 7rounds (14 total) surya namaskar. 9: 30- belfast-kallogs k (with fruit)/oats/poha/ upma/plain idli/veg sandwich in brown bread. 11: 30- drink coconut water/fresh juice/green tea /sugar free coffee or tea with one marie biscuit. 1: 30 -lunch-chapati or steamed rice with dal and roti, with dahi or butter milk. 3: 30- one fruit. 5: 30- tea/coffee with handful roasted namkeen or one marie biscuit. 7: 30-dinner-khichdi/soup or boiled vegetables avoid carbs. Have early dinner. Drink one cup of milk with sugar in the night before sleeping. (timings can be changes according to your schedule but keep the same gap)

Weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. Some tips 1) drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take ? of your total as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity.

Hi general guideline regular walk/ exercise green tea/ herbal tea/ every day alovera juice 1 cup or amla juice 1 tsp take it refinds sugar avoid. Complex charbohydrate take it omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acid no fried fatty foods.

My son 8 yrs old having type-1 diabetes, insulin 2 times a day, dose 9 units morning, 6 in evening. I tried best of nutrition but still his glucose levels variate from 60-70 at morning n 400+ in evening i. E. High fluctuations. Pls advise.

Can consult your pediatrician, can use glargine insulin with premeal actrapid for better control, take opinion of your treating doctor, in addition diet, exercise should be planned for better control.
