My grandmother is 75 years old and she is a diabetics patient and has high blood pressure, 8 years ago she has got chikungunya and since then she is suffering from joint pain, she also struggles to walk properly, is there any medication for her joint pains apart from surgeries and high dosage tablets.

I am a diabetic taking Glyciphage-500 mg. yesterday I undergone lipid and HbA1c tests. The levels are as follows. 1) HbA1c-6.00% 2) S. Cholesterol -201 mgs/dl 3) S. Triglycerides-140 mgs/dl 4) HDL-36 mgs/dl 5) LDL-137 mgs/dl 6) VLDL-28 mgs/dl shall I start medicines for Cholesterol or any tips to control these levels. Since last two year these levels are maintained. Regards

Dear , your hba1c is quite good, but your hdl is low, s. Cholesterol is little high, for this try to include lot of omega 3 fatty rich foods like flaxseed, melon seeds, fish, wall nuts. Also follow a high fibre, and good protein diet with multi grains instead of processed foods.

I am 39 years old from last 2 months I came to know that I have a sugar. Yesterday I check it was too. Pls advice me. I had a one kidney by birth. And I am also having addiction of corex syrup pls advice how to leave it by medicine.

Hello, I will advice you this medicine: Stamonium 30C 1 dose now and then start taking Cosmos 30C three times in a day for 1 week. Then again check your blood sugar status. It should get reduced. And the addiction for corex syrup should also get reduced. As you are at the entry point of getting diabetes, I want you to be saved from life long Anti-diabetics (Tablets). So you take that medicine and please report to me after 1 week. Your diabetes should be under control by 3 months treatment. And start walking in morning daily for at least 15-20 mins before 8 AM. Take care. :)

I am 25 years old female candidate. I am strongly facing problem of bad breath. It is like some kind of unfreshness for whole day. And very strong bad breath. I tried sugar less chewing gums (tic tac ) still has no effect. How should I treat this in urgent.

Bad breath or called as" halitosis" there are various reasons for bad breath. First of all update your medical history as the problem could be elsewhere in your body but will be shown as bad breath through your mouth as mouth being the gateway for your complete system. Apart from that there might be local soft or hard deposits on your teeth which can cause bad breath. This might need professional cleaning by the dentist your teeth might be not well aligned, which we call as" crowded" teeth which makes its challenging for you to keep it clean. So consult an orthodontist (specialist for braces) to align your teeth. Your health of the gums might be compromised which also leads to bad breath. Consult a periodontist for gum problems. Your teeth might have cavities where the food can get lodged and might lead to bad breath. Consult your dentist for this. Inspite of regular cleaning and brushing it might be difficult for you to get a fresh breath. As I mentioned above your dentist will tell you exactly the problem areas. Make sure you do your part well. Regular brushing of your teeth twice daily regular flossing of your teeth (which means cleaning between your teeth by means of floss) clean your tongue gently as it can harbour bacteria causing bad breath stay away from tobacco related habits consume a lot of water and stay hydrated. As dry mouth also leads to bad breath. Please do not use mouth washes if not prescribed by your dentist as they have their own side effects which would be a negative to your oral health. Pay a visit to your dentist every 6 months or earlier for routine cleaning as suggested by your dentist. Problems diagnosed and treated earlier needs less attention as well as works out financially easier for you.

For pre diabetes and ldl cholesterol just pp 206 (6 pts more than normal) and ldl 159 (1pt less upto 160 normal) if I need any medicine or by food exercise walk/standing/fruits/frequency of light food can bring this to normal and maintain. Thanks for your anticipated reply.

Your blood sugar and cholesterol level is in the upper limit of normal. Regular exercise, diet control, weight reduction, avoiding oily and fatty food, restricting carbohydrate and sweets can bring down the sugar and cholesterol level. Repeat the test after some time. If not under control medicine has to be started.

I am 56 years old business man and a diabetic patient since 14 years and always under medical supervisions. But more or less I consume alchohol like whisky 4 peg in a week or 2 bottles beer in a week. How much. It may damage my health or not

More quantity of alcohol consumption is fatal to body. So quit drinking or reduce it to 1 peg n then discontinue. In medical science it is called tapering of medicine or toxic substances. If the father have diabetes after his parenting then how is the link of his child's have diabetes. Is anything matters related to his gene or something else? If the risk is more then what care should someone suppose to take to avoid the risk?

Yes the risk of diabetes is higher if father has diabetes. Do rtegular exercise and keep the weight in normal range for your height. Eat healthy homemade food with less fat and carbohydrate diet.

I am 48 years old I have backache and also am suffering diabetic last 10 years. What I will do?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as your problem. If you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, weakness in legs, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc if you do not improve in 2-3 weeks with this conservative management, we will need to evaluate you further in form of dynamic x rays to look for any instability as a cause for pain and some blood investigations to rule out any deficiencies etc. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism Fatigue. Weakness. Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight. Coarse, dry hair. Dry, rough pale skin. Hair loss. I am type 2 diabetic and taking oral hypoglycemic drugs since 9months my weight reduced from 75 kgs to 69 kgs. Is this is effect of drugs.

Hello! fenugreek seed is good for diabetic. But one need to know one single food can't manage glucose level. Diabetes can be well managed by a good diet chart. Take small meals in every 3-4 hr. Regular interval. Avoid sweet n sugar also honey n jaggery, fried foods, ready to eat foods, preserved foods n simple carb like maida. Take whole grain cereals in limitation, lot of veggies, 150-200gm fruit (not juice. Don't skip breakfast n take a small portion of milk or product or any whole grain cereal before bed time. Do 30 min of exercise a day. Best to visit a dietician with all reports for personalized diet plan.

Hellosir/madam, I am suffering from type 1 diabetes since 22 years, my sugar levels are under control only fbs 98, plbs 110 and hba1c 5.6. But I used to go for urine per day only 4-5 times .i am on insugen 30/70 mrng 10u, night 12u, some times I get more angry on my kid and even ill beat him also and shouts on my kid. I feels that im alone and no one will care me ill fell like that please suggest me what to do to get ride of this problem.

I have hypothyroid which is autoimmune. Taking levothyroxine from 3 months. I am frequently getting indigestion, gummy stools, stomach ache. Sometimes nausea. Is it related to thyroid. I was read that there is a connection between intestine and thyroid. Is this condition normal to anyone during thyroid therapy? Please suggest me.

Lybrate-user, hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), which is the autoimmune condition, causing hypothyroidism. Treatment is same like hypothyroidism. With thyroxine tablets. The problems mentioned could be part of the symptoms of ht. However, some times digestive problems may not be connected with that condition. It is better if you increase intake of green leafy vegetables and fruits, that will help in reducing this. Plus hypothyroidism has to be well controlled.

Individuals can experience different signs and symptoms of diabetes, and sometimes there may be no signs. Some of the signs commonly experienced include: Frequent urination Excessive thirst Increased hunger-even though you are eating Weight loss - even though you are eating more Tiredness Lack of interest and concentration A tingling sensation or numbness or persistant pain in the hands or feet Blurred vision Frequent infections Slow-healing wounds Vomiting and stomach pain (often mistaken as the flu) Extreme fatigue Early detection and treatment of diabetes can decrease the risk of developing the complications of diabetes.Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Control Diabetes by Losing Weight:-The most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health is to lose your extra weight.This will not only lower your blood pressure but also helps lowering your cholesterol too. For woman:waist of 80 cm or more & for man:waist of 90 cm or more are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :-the timings at which you have your meals should be set fixed and at regular intervals each day. This will considerably improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Spliting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair and consistent amount , improves ur metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-There should be no long gaps between meals.Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time .Try to have moderate amount of food each time u eat.It will help maintain your blood sugar at a healthy level and wont let it to fluctuate.Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is very important and a fast way to trim down calories ,extra weight and controlling glucose level.Brisk walking for 30 min.atleast five times a week is the best and easiest way of excersicing.You can also try Cycling,swimming,dancing.Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular.Avoid heavy exercise.Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods and meat:Limit fats and sweets.Rather choose a variety of foods including whole grains, fresh vegetables, salads, fruits, low fat dairy products. 9- Take high-fiber and complex carbohydrates:-as they are easily broken down to basic sugars. Add whole grain foods in your diet.Avoid carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks.Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran,flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheatflour.This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated.Drink a lot of water that will help flush the toxins off your system. 11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- gives essential benefits as these contain a lot of vital minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible and a rich source of nutrients. 12- Avoid excess salt:-in form of pickles/papads etc..just 1 tsp(5 gm)is sufficient for a healthy diabetic hypertensive individual. 13-Avoid alcohol consumption:-Alcohols such as beer and wine contains large amount of calories .choose sugar-free drink. 14- dairy products :-Dairy products are high on fat content such as cheese, curd, milk etc.So instead consume skimmed milk products , low fat cheese, yogurt (curd) etc.Do not have more than two cups of tea or coffee every day.Try green tea instead.

Your sugar is not very high do regular exercise and diet control and check your HBA1c levels every 3 months.
