I have sensitive teeth and already have crown for three teeth. My front lower both teeth lost their gum low. Doctors told me its called bone loss and shortened them put the cap on both teeth. But still I feel its not strong and it has torture like black out line though I clean them well. How many root canals we can get? Is there any cancer problem through RC? How to avoid stain in crowned teeth and make them strong? How to support other good teeth without RC?

I have sensitive teeth and already have crown for three teeth. My front lower both teeth lost their gum low. Doctors ...
You cannot get stains on porcelain fused metal crowns. The black line which is showing is metal base of the crown. Which usually appears over a period of time due to recession in gums. If your front teeth have caps. And sensitive. You have to get the root canal treatment done in the tooth which is more sensitive. Amongst the capped teeth. You can use sensitivity paste like senquel f. Apply for three to five minutes and later brush with same paste. For two weeks hopingly sensitivity would subside. If it does not subside. Kindly get root canal done in tooth which is more sensitive under the cap. Root canal is not cancerous.

How to give up chewing tobacco and pan masala. My friend was addicted and the dentist prescribed some chewing gum (not the ones available in any drugstore like nulife). The candy was blue filled in jelly like and each cost around Rs43. Accidentally I forgot the name and lost contact of her as well. She gave up everything after ten days. She was asked to chew just two gums per day. Could you please help me if you could suggest me the name of that particular gum. Thank you.

There is no quick fix or standard method of quitting smoking. However, there are several effective methods and treatments; it is up to each individual to find the one that suits them best. The "no-smoking contract" set a quit date. If it seems easier to you, you can set a quitting 'period' instead. The smoker's diary: many smokers have told us that writing a journal opened their eyes to a habit (smoking) that they thought they knew. Become a forum user and support and encourage each other. Get busy with friend who loves you and does not smoke. NICOTINE CHEWING GUM How to use nicotine gum You can take it throughout the day, or only when you are tormented by the urge to smoke. Because of its flexibility, it is especially indicated for irregular smokers. Take at least 10 pieces per day. If you feel the urge to smoke, use more gum or use either a patch or a nicotine inhaler at the same time. If you smoke fewer than 20 cigarettes per day, you can save money, cut a 4 mg chewing in 2 and use 1/2 piece at a time. Duration of treatment: From 8 weeks to 3 months. Important: For the best results, follow these chewing instructions: Slowly chew the gum: the taste appears After about 10 chews, take a pause by wedging the gum between the cheek and gum Wait until the taste is attenuated Again slowly chew the gum (gum = 30 minutes) Tips from smoking cessation specialist doctors Avoid drinking coffee or fruit juice (acid) before and while using the gum, as these drinks reduce its effectiveness. Chewing the gum too quickly releases too much nicotine, a tangy taste, a decrease in the effectiveness of the gum, hiccups, or stomach ache. Do not stop treatment prematurely as this will decrease your chances of success.

I have a mouth infection. I cannot eat any fast foods because of this infection. What I do to cure it?

I have a mouth infection. I cannot eat any fast foods because of this infection. What I do to cure it?
If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

Generally we advise to start the orthodontic treatment when the canine teeth erupts. But if there is a serious problem related to bones you can go at this age and consult an orthodontist.

All of sudden my gums started to bleed when I brush .I take vit C and calcium everyday. What can I do.
The bleeding gums are due to accumulation of food debris, which is a result of inadequate maintenance of oral hygiene. I suggest that you get thorough professional cleaning/scaling done from a dentist, and use antibacterial mouthwashes thereafter. Following all these measures will solve your problem. Hope that helps.

Don't rush, when you brush: For maximum results, brush your teeth for atleast 2 to 3 minutes.

I am getting ulcers in mouth regularly since last 18 months. I use candid mouth paint and honey to treat them. But they reoccur every month, some times more than 2 to 3 times a month. Please let me know what is the cause of this and what is the permanent cure. I lead a very regulated life. I do not drink much, I am a vegetarian, I do not eat spicy food. I take enough fruits and green vegetables in my diet.

Dear lybrate-user, a mouth ulcer is a painful sore inside the mouth, on the tongue, soft palate (the back portion of the roof of your mouth), or inside the cheeks. Sores in your mouth are round, white, or grey in color, with a red edge or border. The condition is usually becomes okay within 7 days. But if it persists beyond that, or if multiple ulcers keep re-appearing, medical advice must be taken. In severe mouth ulcer attacks, you may also experience fever and physical sluggishness. Taking Vitamin B12 supplements along with a suitable gel for pain is the best remedy. Mouth ulcers are usually due to vitamin deficiency or bad digestion. Other causes are tonsils, trauma from teeth, dry mouth, tonsillitis, stress, change in lifestyle, allergies to certain foods and medication, smoking and tobacco chewing, consumption of spicy n hot foods.

Hello Lybrate user, from question I can infer that you are talking about your third molars or wisdom teeth. Yes, they are quite notorious, they are of no use, they doesn't erupt properly and are more prone to caries (decay). So it is very good idea to remove them. There can be numerous reason for foul smell from your mouth most common is poor oral hygiene i.e. The plaque and calculus deposited over teeth surface. So I would recommend If you are not in pain due to your third molar do this deep cleaning first and in the next week you can undergo the procedure to remove the third molar. Also start by brushing twice daily and using a good mouthwash for a month. Hope this helps.

Tooth Sensitivity

BDS
Dentist, Navi Mumbai
Tooth Sensitivity

Tooth sensitivity is something that affects a number of people. It is often caused by eating or drinking something hot, cold, sweet or acidic. Under normal conditions, the underlying dentin of the tooth (the layer that immediately surrounds the nerve) is covered by the enamel in the tooth crown, and the gums that surround the tooth. Over time, the enamel covering can get thinner, thus providing less protection. The gums can also recede over time, exposing the underlying root surface dentin.
The dentin contains a large numbers of pores or tubes that run from the outside of the tooth to the nerve in the center. When the dentin is exposed, these tubes can be stimulated by changes in temperature or certain foods.

What causes it?

Exposure of the dentin can occur due to a number of factors. Some of the more common reasons are:

  • Gum recession due to age or improper tooth brushing.
  • Acidic beverages (such as soda) that cause enamel erosion and dentin exposure.
  • Tooth grinding : this may actually cause most or all of the teeth to feel sensitive.
  • Brushing with a very abrasive toothpaste, brushing incorrectly and/or brushing more than three times a day could result in a loss of enamel.
  • Gum disease, which can result in gum recession.
  • A chipped or fractured tooth may expose the dentin.

In addition, some dental treatments can cause sensitivity. Treatments such as such as teeth whitening, professional dental cleanings, having braces put on or getting a filling placed have been known to cause sensitivity during or after the procedure.

What can I do about it?

The first step in doing something about dental sensitivity is to find out what the cause is – a dental professional can help you with this.

If the sensitivity is due to a cavity, a restoration can be placed. If gum disease is the cause, the dental professional can perform a thorough cleaning of the area.

If the sensitivity is due to exposed dentin, there are a number of steps you can take, as can your dental professional, to help reduce the sensitivity. These can include:

  • At Home:
    • Use a very soft bristle tooth brush, with low abrasive tooth paste.
    • Brush correctly and do not over brush.
    • Use a tooth paste specially formulated to soothe the nerve endings in the tooth.
    • Use a high concentration fluoride toothpaste (given to you by the dental professional) to strengthen the tooth surface.
  • The dental professional can:
  • In Office Procedures:
  • Fluoride varnish can be applied to exposed areas, strengthening the enamel and dentin.
  • Fluoride foam or gel can be placed into a mouth tray; you then sit with this in your mouth for 3-5 minutes, providing the teeth with a high concentration of fluoride to strengthen the areas.
  • Bonding agent, the material used to stick tooth colored restorations to teeth, can be used to seal the dentin surface and provide a barrier to the stimuli that cause sensitivity.

In the end, whether you need an in-office procedure or over-the-counter products, the most important step is to see a dental professional so that he or she can determine the cause of the tooth sensitivity and help you find a solution that will work.

I have lost my 3 upper teeth in an accident now what is best for my teeth plss suggest me!

I have lost my 3 upper teeth in an accident now what is best for my teeth plss suggest me!
There are several ways to replace missing tooth 1.Implants are a good option if you have lost a tooth or teeth to an injury, periodontal disease, or other reasons. A dental implant is a titanium post (acting as a tooth root) that supports a crown. It is surgically inserted into the jawbone where it will then fuse (or osseointegrate) into the jawbone to ensure that it is anchored in position. After the osseointegration process is finished (usually 3-6 months), an abutment is attached to the post frame. It protrudes above the gum line to provide the area where the dental crown is cemented or screwed into. 2.Dental bridges are used to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth. The bridge is supported by the natural teeth or implants on either side. It is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on each part of the gap.
