What should be done to improve memory in old age?

Because of your age you need to focus more. But here is a list of things to do to help activate and preserve memory: you should read a lot, do new things including learning a new language, repeat things as you do them either aloud or to yourself, try to remember larger pieces of information e. G. A ten digit phone number can be remembered by turning them into five two-digit numbers only etc, try to remember words by allocating more meaning to them, reduce stress, sleep well, exercise regularly, do crosswords, play boggle, attempt puzzles, eat fish, berries, especially blueberries, walnuts, drink green tea, eat dark chocolate, and avocado. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Consume less of fat and use olive oil or coconut oil instead, do yoga meditation exercises, play with your grandchildren or youngsters, even the computer game brain fitness is good for you. It is believed that even though many neurons die as we age, there are also new connections possible even when we age!

Stress performance if plotted on a graph is a bell shaped curve some degree of stress improves your performance but if stress overshoots a point then performance declines. For reducing stress while studying 1. Make a to do list of topics before starting. 2. Prioritize the topics to be read and study accordingly 3. Take intermittent breaks of 10 min during studying 4. Listen to soothing music or talk to your dear ones 5. Do not compromise on your night sleep as it improves long term memory 6. Before beginning next day recall or rehearse the topics studied day before 7. Take healthy diet and keep yourself hydrated 8. Try to learn meditation and practice daily.

My query is for my sister. She is 37 years old and unmarried. She has diagnosed with Schizophrenia and her treatment is going on for this problem from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital from the past one year. Her problem related to his is under control. Hello lybrate-user, if you were taking large amounts of alcohol, earlier and are free from alcohol for last 4 years it is best to continue to be alcohol-free. Otherwise you might go back to similar drinking pattern, as before. Complete 5 years of being alcohol-free. Alcohol in any form is harmful.

7 Ways to Remember Anything Research-based strategies to boost your memory and keep it strong 7 Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

Masturbation is not really bad; it is the addiction to it that is bad. Not even the number of years is a problem but the frequency and compulsiveness to do it is to be considered for its ill-effects. At your age you may feel it difficult and it can become addictive if you have alone time, if you obsess about it, and if you are not into relationships. The problem with addiction to this is that you may go on to prefer masturbation to heterosexual contact, even when you are married. That obviously would be an insult to your wife and will lead to a lot of conflict. Heterosexual contact is very wholesome and the physiology is made exactly for penile and vaginal contact. You will instead enjoy a poor replica of this and not know or care for the difference. The second thing that can happen with addiction is that it will become compulsive and will have no boundaries or limits, since it can be done all by yourself, whenever, wherever, and however too. The big problem a lot of children get into is the guilt around this. A useful way to discharge the energy is to get into contact games, or exercises, or even hobbies to channelize it. Also you should not spend too much time alone, and you need to keep your mind occupied with other interesting things and a lot of socializing. Even if you are not interested in marriage, for whatever reasons, it will help you to get into a friendship with a girl and enjoy the relationship where there will be a lot of excitement when you fall in love. Right now your hormones may be very active and your physiological apparatus is primed and ready for sexual stimulation. For body pain you should find out if you are having low grade fever or having a history of recurrent cold. If these are the causes seen then take proper medications. And if not then take rest and regularise your diet. Do not immediately take analgesics.
