Sir one of the doctor said that tilted pelvis and scoliosis can't be cured by yoga. Then what is the solution for me sir?

M S Orthopaedics, MBBS
Orthopedist, Mumbai
Hello lybrate user, the condition you are talking about is quiet complex. I will do my best to explain it to you. Tilted pelvis and scoliosis is a form of deformity of the spine and pelvis. It has many causes. In one class of causes, the basic problem arises from the spine itself and includes congenital abnormalities of the individual vertebrae forming the the spine, neurological problems or muscular problems where there is a lack of sufficient strength amongst the muscles of the spine to hold it erect, rare cases of tumors. But the most commonly seen patients have no identifiable cause. We call them idiopathic scoliosis which more common than all the other causes put together. The other class of causes is where the problem is situated elsewhere in the body and the scoliosis is secondary to that problem; for example, lower limb length inequality, ie. Descripancy of the lengths of lower limbs. In such cases, when the patient stands up, due to unequal lengths of the limbs the pelvis becomes tilted. To compensate for the tilted pelvis and to bring back center of gravity the spine bends in the opposite direction and gives rise to a scoliosis secondary to a problem in the lower limbs. The condition is therefore best treated by treating the cause. If the cause is untreatable or no cause is found, then we go for a surgical correction of the spinal deformity. You have to understand that it is a highly complex and risky surgery done only by a handful spine surgeons in india. So, it is advisable to go for surgery only in cases where scoliosis is so severe that it is cosmetically concerning or leads to other health problems. Minor forms can be treated with splints and braces along with back muscle strengthening exercises. If you additionally have breathing problems because of scoliosis you can also do some respiratory (lung) exercises. Surgery would be advisable only in cases where there is a severe scoliosis, other health problems because of scoliosis or a progressively increasing deformity of the spine which mainly happens happens in children. Once the growth of the body is complete, your deformity may progress if already severe or may remain the same through out your life. It is best to consult a spine surgeon having a good experience in dealing with spinal deformity. Hope this helps.

Hello Dr. I am suffering from back pain and I got MRI of lumber spine with hip joint screening done for it. The result says that" Spondylolysis noted at L5 level with minimal anterolisthesis of L5 over S1 vertebra. Vertebrae otherwise appear normal in size and shape and show normal marrow signal intensity. No evidence of discovertebral osteomyelitis or abnormal para- spinal collection. Dessicative changes seen involving L4-L5 intervertebral disc in form of reduced signal intensity on T2W images. Posterior bulging of L4-L5 disc is seen with annular tear indenting thecal sac. epiphyseal joints and para-spinal muscles are unremarkable. Lower dorsal cord and conus appear normal. No evidence of intraspinal mass. AP DIAMETERS: D12-L1 - 17 MM. L1-L2 - 17MM. L2-L3 - 16MM. L3-L4 - 15MM. L4-L5 - 12MM. L5-S1 - 13MM Coronal fat suppressed images through both S. I. & hip joints appear unremarkable except subtle focal hyperintense marrow signals involving sacrum on right side. Opinion: The Mr. findings show spondylolysis at L5 level with minimal anterolisthesis of L5 over S1 vertebra. Posterior bulging of L4-L5 disc with annular tear indenting thecal sac. The Dr. I've consulted suggest me the pain management treatment. In which medicine is injected at the part of pain. N the injection costs around RS 18000. But it's not the permanent solution he said. Now what should I do next. Please advise me the suitable treatment for my problem that solve my issue permanently. Thank you. Regards,

Hello dear there is no permanent treatment for it but injection or surgery gave long time effect in this. If you have sevear pain then go for these. If it is not too sevear then you have to consult with a good physiotherapists and take treatment of lumbar traction and ift or swd if give good relief. Even you go for blood test of vitamin b12 and vitamin d3 if there is deficiency then take supplement for it. Do regular exercise programme suggested by your physiotherapy doctor. It will subside for long time may be life long you don't get this pain. But firstly you have to take rest hot fermentation and continue with medicine. Thanks and regards.

Dear low back pain k liye you can do it perfectly. 1, lying on your stomach, prop yourself up on your forearms. Align your elbows directly under your shoulders. Press firmly through your palms and the tops of your feet. Press your pubic bone forward. You will feel sensations in your lower back, but breathe through it. You are allowing blood flow int from all-fours, bring your right knee behind your right wrist with your lower leg at a diagonal toward your left hip. Square off your hips toward the ground. Bend forward. Widen the elbows and place one hand on top of the other as a pillow for your forehead. Hold 2-3 minutes and then switch to the left side for 2-3 minutes. O the lower back for healing. Hold for 1-3 minutes. 2. Lying on your back, bend both knees with the feet flat on the ground. Bend the right knee like a figure four, with the outer left ankle to the right thigh. Lift the left foot into the air, bringing the left calf parallel to the ground. Thread your right hand between the opening of the legs and interlace your hands behind your left thigh. Hold 2-3 minutes and then repeat on the other side 3scoot your buttocks all the way into the wall and swing your feet up the wall. This pose is excellent for relaxing the muscles of the lower back and drains stagnant fluid from the feet and ankles. Do this pose after a challenging workout and always after traveling by plane. Hold for 5-10 minutes. I hope you will fit and fine.

My elbow is paining continuously from one month. So you tell me an perfect advise.
Treatment will depend upon cause of pain. Just telling that you have pain in elbow is not much helpful. Please describe in details site of pain, dominant or non dominant extremity. How did the pain start. How does pain get relieved and how it increases. Have you taken any treatment for pain till now. Have you visited any doctor. Till then, You have to give rest to your elbow. Apply ice 5 times daily. Do not lift any weight with that upper limb. Do not drive. Do not do any activity that causes pain. If pain doesn't settle in a week, review again.

Sir, my tailbone has fractured while playing cricket exactly 8 months before but still now it was not healing, I am getting pain while sitting, what is the reason for not healing, will it heal? If yes what should I do?

PGDHHM, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Thanks for the query. Take some painkiller for pain. Do hot fomentation. Avoid constipation. Eat fibre rich diet. Avoid sitting down for long periods of time. When seated, avoid sitting on hard surfaces and alternate sitting on each side of the buttocks. You can use" doughnut" cushion or pillow to sit on. This cushion has a hole in the middle to prevent the tailbone from direct pressures. Hope this helps you.
