My recent blood test report is fbs- 110 and pbbs- 83. Does that mean I'm diabetic?

PGDHHM, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
As per your history your post meal sugar is lower than fasting. Reactive hypoglycemia (postprandial hypoglycemia) is low blood sugar that occurs after a meal — usually within four hours after eating. Usually it doesn't require medical treatment. Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day. Eat well balanced diet. If some symptoms persists, get your glucose tolerance test done. Hope this helps you.

There are good homoeopathic medicines for varicose problem. I will tell some simple tips as an accessory management. 1. Reduce your weight if you are obese. 2. Avoid standing continuously for more than 20 mins. 3. Keep your legs raised while sitting. 4. Avoid taking heavy weights and loads. 5. Keep your legs above two pillows while laying in bed. 6. Use creepe bandaging. Homoeopathic medicine like pulsatilla hamamelis, calc flour, magnifiera etc can completely make the valves of veins open and make the blood flow normal. If you not taken varicose veins as a major thing at the initial stage it can lead into varicose ulcers, or any heart disease in the future.

Diabetes and its Management with the Help of Ayurveda

MD - Ayurveda

Diabetes and its Management with the Help of Ayurveda

When the sugar concentration in the blood increases suddenly and unreasonably, the resulting condition is known as diabetes. Sugar or glucose is generally used in order to provide much needed energy to our bodies. But when the pancreas dysfunctions, it leads to a problem in the insulin production. As a result, glucose or sugar gets directly absorbed into the blood, instead of getting absorbed by insulin. And this leads to the condition of diabetes.

As an ancient science based on lifestyle related treatment methods that include herbs, massages and life changing tweaks, Ayurveda also provides various methods of managing this ailment. Here's how!

  1. Bitter Gourd: Known as an ingredient that is rich in antioxidants, this can be consumed to take care of diabetes. You will need to first remove the peel of at least four to five bitter gourds before crushing them to create a paste. This paste has to be put through a sieve so that the juice of the gourds can be extracted. You will then have to drink this juice every morning, on an empty stomach.
  2. Cinnamon: From treating coughs and colds to diabetes and other serious ailments, this is a wonder spice that can be found in most Indian kitchens. You can start by boiling a litre of water and letting it simmer on the gas for about twenty minutes. Thereafter, you can add three teaspoons of cinnamon powder to this simmering water. Strain this mixture and drink the entire batch every day to clear out the toxins.
  3. Fenugreek Seeds: For this, you will need to take about four to five tablespoons of fenugreek seeds. These will have to be soaked in a glass of water or about 250ml of water, overnight. In the morning, the softened seeds will need to be crushed before the mixture is strained. The water that escapes should be collected and ingested every day for a period of two months.
  4. Turmeric: Turmeric is a powerful and well known ingredient that is used for curing and managing many ailments. You will need to mix about half a teaspoon of turmeric powder with one teaspoon of amla powder as well as half a tablespoon of methi seeds or fenugreek seeds powder. This concoction will have to mixed in half a glass of water and taken daily on an empty stomach. This can be used by patients suffering from heart ailments as well.
  5. Diet: Cereals like ragi, corn, kulit, green millet, and barley are known to beneficial for patients suffering from diabetes. Leafy greens are also a must for such patients along with protein-rich foods like soya beans.

For diabetic patients sugar may flactuate. Then common problems are head moving head suddenly or abnormalities of brain functiong due to low sugar level in blood & circulations in central nervous systems. So do not worry, take medications, light walking, littile dynamic life stlesbut be aware of every time.

I'm 48 yrs. My hba1c & blood sugar is 6.5. Uric acid is 480. Dr. Prescribed me janumet (sitagliptin phosphate 50mg/metformin hcl 1000mg) 1 tab daily as mild diabetic, with neurobion & aspirin. Shall I need to start this medication right now or with regular exercise and strict diet it can be reduced? once I start this medicine, I have to continue for life long? how this medicine works? what is your expert advice? thanks.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
If you haven't tried exercise and strict diet control as yet then be assured that both these measures can control your diabetes. Sadly, though these approaches are the best way to control diabetes but are also the toughest to practise. Its a myth that diabetes medicines once started cant be stopped. Infact its the patient ongoing test reports and conditions which define the need for medicines.

Sir I have sore throat since last 3 days I have not taken any antibiotic till now I am 49 a teacher by profession and every morning when I go for jogging I find a small quantity of cough come from throat I am diabetic today my post meal sugar is 187 please suggest me some medicine. Thnx a lot.

lybrate
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybrate user, as you are a teacher by profession you might be delivering lectures everyday. This is not going to help your condition. Also, your jogging every morning is not good for you either as the breathing rate goes up and the cough cough get further aggravated. As you may not be able to stop delivering lectures, it is adviceable you temporarily stop your jogging till your throat has healed. Certain things that would help you are hereunder: - Drink lots of fluids (warm), avoid coffee - Take steam inhalation 3 times a day & do warm salt water gargles 3-4 times a day. - Keep some succulent lozenges (sugar free) in your bag, and use them as they would ease the irritation during lectures. If you dont feel better in the next 2 days or if there is fever, please consult a physician privately. Needless to mention, your blood sugar levels are on the higher side and a visit to your diabetologist is due. Take care!

Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. What exactly is a spine block injection? Will it work long-term for low back pain due to disc problems? What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

I am male 56+ and having diabetes & hypothyroidism for the past 7 years. No blood pressure. Beginning medication was 1gm metformin + 25 mg thyroxine sodium. Past one year metformin increased to 2gms in divided dose. eltroxin 25 mg remained same. But 6 months back my dosage was increased as follows- metformin 1gms + 1 mg glimepiride (twice) + 50 mg eltroxin once. Now for the past one month it's as follows- Morning 50 mg eltroxin, then before breakfast 1gm metformin + 1 mg glimepiride. Nothing in the night. My sugar levels are well in control as I go out for vigorous walks (5-6 kms) and exercise 5 days a week. The problems is with my libido which has drastically reduced to nothing for the past one and half years. My erection is limp and goes limp very soon. My testerone and sperm levels are okay for my age as per test results done recently. I don't want to take medicines like viagra or such ayurvedic medicines which shoots my pressure to dangerous levels of 145/97 and all white light becomes blue in my sight. The after effects are also very bad for me. Please suggest correctly ,so that at least, I can have satisfactory sex once per week.

Hello- Just like physical and mental health, sexual health is also of great importance. Proper medicines along with proper lifestyle habits can solve the problem and help in leading a healthy sexual life. Persons suffering from metabolic disorders must be treated with a different approach. Modern medicines are not effective in sexual weakness if the patient is suffering from any metabolic disease like diabetes, hypertension etc. Only Ayurveda has an answer (and specialized medicines) which can boost up sex life of persons suffering from serious metabolic disorders. I recommend you to consult your ayurvedic sexologist providing the detailed history, you will definitely be benefited.
