Follow these best methods for treatment of hair fall • Add protein containing items in your foods for healthy hair growth such as take a bowl of cereal daily and a glass of milk or 100 gm cheese or 1-2 eggs.. • Stress is one of the main cause of hair fall. To reduce hairfall, Practice Yogasana like SHIRSHASANA and SARWANGASANA only under the guidance of Expert. • you can use MAHABHRINGRAJ TEL of BAIDYANATH COMPANY and apply it 3 times in a week massage your scalp for 10 to 15 minutes daily. It increases blood circulation in your scalp and enhances hair growth. • Avoid the excess use of products such as hair colours or shampoo as they cause destruction of hair follicles. * Take Vitamin-E rich foods like dry fruits (Almonds, Pista etc) daily. * Apply the egg yolk to the scalp atleast once a week. hello doctor on 18 Aug I check my sugar test which is 141 after eating .I want to know after how many month I need to check again.

hello doctor on 18 Aug I check my sugar test which is 141 after eating .I want to know after how many month I need to...
Hi , Your sugar is under control. For good control fasting glucose should be less than 110 and 2 hour post prandial glucose should be less than 160. HbA1C should be less than 6.5 for your age.(HbA1C gives the average blood glucose value over the past 3 months. Glucose in your blood is stuck to Haemoglobin produced by the Red blood cells) 1) Blood glucose testing should be done once every 3months when it is under control. This should include Fasting blood glucose, 2 hour post prandial blood glucose and HbA1C. 2) if the diabetes is not under control FBG and PPBG should be done more frequently - once every 3-4 weeks. But HbA1C should be repeated only once every 3 months - it is no use repeating it early as the life span of RBC ( red blood cells) is 3 months. Hope this helps you Thank you.

Infertility

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Lucknow
Infertility

Infertility : You are not alone

I meet many ladies everyday who are fighting with infertility. Some express their Desire to have kids and pain associated with infertility openly and some are shy to share anything. People make allowances for all sorts of grief. Infertility is a loss of staggering proportions. A feeling of being incomplete, A feeling of deep emptiness from Inside ....
Those brave ladies who experience it, it can be deep , incomprehensible, painful Bewildering and Mind-numbing. Its not easy loss to define or put into words. Not having a child is something which makes them deeply hurt. I am sharing My experience in the Clinic today , A wonderful lady , very focused and warm person. Expressed her feelings openly with an heavy heart . This emotional Turmoil may be faced by many ladies. Just sharing so that many of us can identify with her and get a positive attitude and rest of us might provide them enough positivity and strength to lead a normal life.
We all will agree that it is sad to not be able to have children, the idea of feeling desperation and wild crippling grief could seem dramatic, excessive and even weak.
She told me that Most common response from the people I meet is the word ' Kum se kum Tumhe cancer , to nahi hai, Tumne baccha to nahi khoya hai, Koi aur serious problem to nahi hai na ''' The word ' KUM se Kum ' ( At least ) can be very disheartening many times.
We all are different and we deal with our emotional status differently. According to her she was not very happy with the ATLEAST concept of sympathizing .
She told ,many times in her fight with infertility she needed positivity around me , needed someone to sit down and hold her hand and say, "I'm so sorry, this must hurt so much. I'm here for you." Anyone who does not have mockery in eyes ,have deep love and compassion in every word and the very fact that they allowed my grief to exist and they heard me was healing. So Simple thing which can make her energized.
Unfortunately, more often, the unintentional message she heard was that of her sadness being undermined, made less by the words "at least."
even I was thinking How could her personal pain possibly measure up against all the greater tragedies in the world?
I found her eyes becoming wet as she described how she cried rivers over the little boys and little girls who would never have her smile or her husband's eyes. she began to have dreams of stumbling down a difficult forest path leading to a pitch black lake where a child was floating face down in the water. Even she wanted to hug her child and feel the simple pleasure of being a MOM. Even I felt my heart go for her... Becoming a Mother can be the most happy experience of anyone's life.
When I was talking to her I realized that There is nothing trivial about grief over infertility. A person can grieve the loss of their dream of a biological family as honestly and deeply as someone else can grieve the loss of a child or parent or partner or their health.
There is no "at least" when it comes to the breaking of the human heart, there is no need to try to measure one person's pain against another to see who is worthy of feeling grief and who isn't.
If some one from your near and dear ones is fighting with Infertility then assure that they have the emotional and mental support from you. A real guidance and taking the medical help at right time can do wonders. But we all require some amount of sensitivity towards their pain. Rest can be done by doctors and medical professionals . The only thing is Power of Positivity and feeling that someone Understands their pain.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Blood glucose checked with gluco meter or with venous blood at labs, can be having such a huge difference. You have not mentioned whether it is fasting, after food or random. If you are loosing weight means blood glucose is not well controlled. Hence my suggestion is please come back with following details: FBG, PPBG & HbA1c%, drugs being taken with dosage, dietary pattern and extent of exercise being done daily. Based on those details I will be able to guide specifically. Once if the blood glucose is well controlled then weight loss is stopped and one can even regain the same. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, with 116 kg weight you have a grade 3 obesity, that is the major problem. It is possible that uncontrolled hypothyroidism may have been the reason for triggering and increasing obesity. But now your primary objective is tackle obesity. For that hypothyroidims has to be strictly controlled with tsh levels should be maintained between 3 to 4 milli units / l. Then there has to be strict dietary control to be observed and regular exercise regimen. You should aim at cutting about 8 to 10 % of present weight. It is possible, only if you are prepared mentally. Thanks.

I am 40 yr old last 8 yr diabetis but no control on sugar fasting 200 ; pp 325 variation so please consult.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (self-monitoring of blood glucose? smbg). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of fasting sugar (fbs) and 2 hours after food (ppbs) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ insulin will be needed. For sugar control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me privately with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch.

Hi, Weight gain could be due to various reasons 1) when woman is attaining menopause she tends to put on some weight. 2) As person grows older his/her basal metabolic rate decreases, and if the person is consuming same quantities of food as he was doing when he was younger he will put on weight. 3) if hypothyroidism is not well controlled he / she will put on weight. So please get your TSH, T4 and T3 levels checked. 4) by reducing physical activity person puts on weight. 5) Increase in dietary consumption especially of high calorie stuff (high sugar and high fat stuff) will make a person put on weight. Thank you.

Ideal sugar level during pregnancy should be maintained between 90 - 120 mg through out the day. Hence, 135 mg after food is high. Is she on any treatment? if not then she must start on minimal dosage of insulin (4 - 6 units a day) and bring the levels below 120 mg. In pregnancy high sugar is dangerous for the fetus as it may trigger macrosomia (large baby).

Mr Srinivasa Rao, The very fact that sugar (blood glucose) level is going out of control, is a sign of ill health. Because persistent hyperglycemia affects every single vital organ in the body like eyes (retina), small & large blood vessels, kidney, heart, lower limbs, peripheral nerves and lipid metabolism etc. leading to serious long term complications. So my suggestion is please see that blood glucose level is brought under a strict control. There is no other option. Otherwise, suddenly some complication may come up without warning. Thanks.

Can Right Diet Prevent Infertility?

Can Right Diet Prevent Infertility?

Infertility is a condition that refers to the inability to conceive, even after regularly having unprotected sex for a period of 6 months at least. In most cases, infertility may also refer to the biological inability of a person to contribute to the process of conception; or to a woman who is incapable of carrying a pregnancy to its full term.

There are several causes behind infertility; but taking the current lifestyle of the people into account, stress and a sedentary lifestyle are emerging as major factors behind this condition.

How do stress and a sedentary lifestyle cause infertility?

1. Stress: Stress is turning into a major cause of infertility, esp. in women. A research carried out by Emory University observed 16 women between their mid 20s-30s, with normal weights for a period of 6 months to come to this conclusion. It found out that each of these women did not get their periods for the 6 months under observation due to high amounts of cortisol (stress hormone) in their body. Each of these women had really hectic work lifestyles, which indicated that women with stressful jobs are at a higher risk of experiencing infertility due to stress.

In fact, both the partners, when going through a period of stress, are unable to conceive. However, during periods when they felt good, their chances of having a baby increased dramatically.

2. Sedentary Lifestyle: Again, more of a risk factor for women than men.
Amongst women, a sedentary lifestyle during teenage causes hormonal imbalance and anovulatory cycles more commonly seen in PCOD (polycystic ovarian disorder - the development of multiple small cysts in the ovary) patients, which is a major cause for infertility.

As for men, those with a sedentary lifestyle generally tend to be overweight or obese, which can lead to low sperm quality. This, in turn, can significantly reduce a couple’s chances of conceiving.

What can do you to prevent infertility?

1. Stay Active: Acupressure, regular exercising, daily brisk walking, practicing yoga and meditation are some of the ways by which you can alleviate the problem of infertility. Each of these activities help in improving the flow of blood to your reproductive organs, which helps in the release of toxins from the body. They also help in enhancing the movement of the pelvic region and in reducing any type of inflammation and pain in the area, thereby increasing your chances of conceiving. The added benefit of practicing these is a significant reduction in your stress levels.

2. Eat Right: Diet too plays a major role. Certain foods are known to boost your fertility, while maintaining proper hormonal balance and reducing the chances of miscarriage. Foods like cold water fish, raw dairy, eggs, tomatoes and dark leafy greens among others should be a part of your daily diet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

My suggestion is get thyroid assay done, the results will help in diagnosis if there is hypothyroidism. The symptoms of hypothyroidism are: early fatigue, tired feeling, slow heart rate, intolerance to cold, weight gain, dry skin and dry hair, hair fall, irregular periods or excess flow, difficulty in speech, inability to concentrate etc.

I am 41 years old house wife, and post hysterectomy 13 years back, now having hypothyroidism, current test shows TSH is 17.48 uIU/ml. T4 5.8, T3 107 ng/DL. Now I have tiredness, hair loss, body ache. My doctor given 50 mg thyronorm tab 1 for every day. Can you suggest food habits and other controls for speedy recover, and future of my life.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
When on treatment for hypothyroidism, to get all symptoms in control, TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. So TSH 17.48 is too high, showing uncontrolled hypothyroidism. Hence all the symptoms like tiredness, fatigue and hair loss will continue. It appears the dosage of thyroxine is low. Needs to be increased to at least by another 25 mg or more. After taking that dose for 6 weeks check TSH levels again to see if desired decrease has occurred or not. As regards food please avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, mustard, peanuts and coffee. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads, fruits and use whole grain flour, avoid maida. Thanks.

I am facing thyroid problem. It is 5.45 THS. Is it dangerous fraction? Which is its normal rage? Our family doctor advised me to take 1 tab daily in the morning for whole life. How can I heal it.

MD - General Medicine

Tsh value is slightly above normal range, different labs have different normal values. You must be taking levothyroxine, I advise you to continue it for lifetime since it doesn't have any side effects and it will prevent you from many complications arising due to thyroid problem if not taken regularly.

Hello, following are details of blood sugar levels fasting normal: 70 to 110 mg/ 100 ml, pp <140 mg & hba1c% < 6.5. Pre-diabetic state: fasting 108 - 125 mg / 100 ml, pp 141 to 199 mg / 100 ml & hba1c% 5.9 to 6.4 %. Confirmed diabetes: fasting equal to and above 126 mg, pp - equal to and above 200 mg/100 ml, hba1c % 6.5 and above. So your fasting blood glucose value falls in pre - diabetes state. Thanks.
