I am 45 year old female and problem of backache from last year? What should I do.
Pain in back is becoming very common days it is because of normal day to day activity and lifestyle. Especially found lot of females complaining of back pain because of there day to day working and pressure. There could be many reasons for back pain. Many of the problems occur for which we are not aware. I understand your pain. Let me recommend you the treatment as well as the precautions you can take at home to get away your backache. Precautions: 1. Avoid forward bending, if required then bend your knees first and then bend forward. 2. Avoid weight lifting. 3. Sit in chairs or car seats with proper back support. 4. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back like sidelying. 5. Get enough vit d from sun as vit d keep bones strong including spine, 6. Drink plenty of water to enhance the inter vertebral disks 7. Avoid standing in the one position for a long time. 8. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back. Treatment- 1. Apply ice or heat which ever suits you directly to the area of low back pain will decrease swelling and inflammation, and ease your discomfort. Apply it for 10 to 15 minutes only. 2. Relaxing for 5 minutes after ice or heat treatment. Massage - ask someone to massage your painful area using fingers or thumb. Massage using kneading technique. Slightly press the thumb and start rotating as it helps to induce relaxation, relieve pain, and reduce levels of stress chemicals, such as cortisol and noradrenaline. It will give you pain relief for time being. 3. After massage again relax for 5 min and apply any pain relieving ointment eg - volini or oraflame gel etc. Make sure not to do massage with the gel, it should not penetrate the body. Just a topical application of gel should be done. 4. Again relax your body for 5 minutes and perform some normal back extension and hamstring stretching exercises to get relief from your pain. While performing exercises if pain occurs then would recommend you to stop doing exercise. Massage or slightly rub the painful area and consult your near by physio to diagnose the actual cause of the pain as he/she can guide you proper exercise plan which will be beneficial for you after checking grade of your back pain. Hello apply prasarini oil or pranacharya restopain oil on your affected part and give hot water fomentation .take yograj guggul and agni tundi vati after lunch and dinner with warm water. Take maha rasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. Take pranacharya vatari capsule and syrup twice a day. Avoid fermented food. Junk food.

Hi We need to actually find out what could be the cause of persistent pain in your case, I need to know whether there was a h/o injury to the affected shoulder, apart from pain do you also have any associated swelling, skin redness, local warmth etc as well? if above symptoms are not there, then in my opinion you can start with intensive physical therapy, anti inflammatory medications, precautions for the shoulder as advised and let us see how you respond in next 7-10 days, otherwise we will have to get a few investigations done for further evaluation.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Rheumatoid arthritis will have symmetrical distribution of pain swelling in joints of both sides. You can continue with all yoga pranayama and aerobic exercises with physiotherapy also.

Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

I had an anteriro cruciate ligament tear in my right knee a couple of months back.I was wearing a brace during those two months. I do not feel any pain know in the ACT areas but other muscle areas around the knee feel stiff. Slight pain still persists while i climb the stairs. Is physiotherapy advisable now ?

Hello, If you have a complete ACL tear i advise you get it reconstructed Arthroscopically as it renders knee biomechanically unstable. Also exercises need to be continued but upload your MRI Knee so that i can advise you.

Hi Dr. My father suffiring from knee pain and swelling his age is 56yr. He has not any problem in walking. He has done x-ray and all report but all are normal and consult with Dr. He says every thing fine suggest some excercise. Bus before two month consult with another Dr. He says his knees not working properly and he has to go for sugery. While his x-ray reprot is normal and no problem in walking. Please give me adwise.

Hello if there is not much problem in walking and as you say x-ray report are normal, I suggest you to start physiotherapy treatment. Meanwhile. Suggestions for the application of ice and heat ice is an effective and natural pain killer and anti-inflammatory. Whenever you experience swelling, redness or sharp / stabbing pain it is generally considered best to apply ice. Repeat until symptoms ease? usually for 24? 48 hours. Following this you should alternate with ice and heat. If in doubt, contact your physiotherapist. Application place ice cubes in a plastic bag or use a professionally prepared ice pack. Place a damp face washer or tea towel over the problem area then place the ice pack on the material covering. The first application should be as follows:- 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on then during waking hours, apply the ice pack every 2 hours, or as indicated by your physiotherapist. As the inflammation reduces, it is often beneficial to apply heat between ice. 10 minutes on ice 10 minutes on heat 10 minutes on ice 10 minutes on heat 10 minutes on ice 10 minutes on heat heat is an effective therapy for reducing muscular tension and pain and is best used after the initial inflammation has subsided. N. B. If you do not have ice immediately available, then use a pack of frozen peas or similar item. Do reply for private consultation and detailed treatment plan. Best wishes.

Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Bhujang asana. Core strengthening exercises. Back stretchingstretch do the cat/cow avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Apply hot fomentation. For leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Masturbate causes muscle cramping in your thigh and back muscle that increases your back pain. Do a proper exercise and avoid long standing maintainance of similar posture. No such guideline regarding the frequency of masturbating.

Hot fomentation x twice daily. Neck Exercises. Neck Stretching. Postural Correction. Shoulder Shrugs . Core Strengthening Exercises. Take frequent Breaks at work Use cervical pillow. Use Back Support. Self Massage the back of neck.

Take piece of paper write your strenghts and weaknesses. Then you write what three things you want without which you cannot live. If you already have then write next two and if you do not have then start thinking how best you can get it.(please do not want those things which are not feasable at this momments) considering your strenght and weakness. Do your real self analysis.

I am 63 yrs. Gap in left knee joint has reduced. My doctor confirmed but said initial stage and suggested regular exercise after reducing / removal of swelling. Please. Inform how to get rid of swelling by some medicine and exercise. Thanks.
