I am suffering from cold from last week. What should be done to root out the problem?

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
1. Do steam inhalation by steam inhaler 2-3 times daily with karvol plus inhalant capsule 2. Put otrivin nasal drop 1 drop thrice daily. 3. Take one tablet of levocetrizine (5mg) at bed time. 4. Drink lukewarm water/hot soup/herbal tea etc 5. If you have recurrent attack of cold you may be having sinusitis/allergic rhinitis 6. Take plain xray pns/ct scan of pns after consulting ent specialist to exclude sinusitis and take treatment accordingly 7. If sinusitis is excluded, it I could be due to allergic rhinitis, do an allergy test after consulting allergy specialist/immunologist to find out the cause of allergy and follow the treatment and advice accordingly.

Drink one glass of water 30 minutes before a meal to help digestion. Remember not to drink too soon before or after a meal as the water will dilute the digestive juices. Drink water an hour after the meal to allow the body to absorb the nutrients.

You need serious help. Yes definitely with proper lifestyle modifications and stress management and professional guidance, you can get back to healthy track of a fitter you. Try going for a Personalised diet consultation, where in a professional requires each and every detail of you to consider the quantities, activity level, calories and all. Build a better breakfast, Aim to eat anywhere between 400 and 500 calories for your morning meal, and make sure you're including a source of lean protein plus filling fat (e.g. eggs, beans, unsweetened greek yogurt, nuts or nut butters) and fiber (veggies, fruit or 100% whole-grains). Prioritise real, whole foods, means filling up on fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, low-fat dairy and lean protein. Know your limits with salt Skip sugary beverages Ignore the gimmicks/weight loss hypes Eat your H2O Munch on mineral-rich foods Resist the urge to skip a meal Take a hike or a walk Go to bed/ no sleep deprivation Eat spicy foods seriously cayenne peppers/jalapeños Buy a set of 5-pound weights, strength training builds lean muscle tissue which burns more calories.

I am use sleep well pillow and mattresses. For me no alcohol habits and no tension and no smoking habits. No high sexual feelings. I am bachelor. Own cooking food only. No weight loss problem. I am stay in hyderabad, here climate is cooling. Please answer me what to do?

Good morning doctors. Last few days I can't sleep properly. Sleep feeling came. But while sleep can't able to sleep. ...
simple ways for a restful sleep 1. Cut down on caffeine: Caffeine drinkers may find it harder to fall asleep. Even a single cup of coffee in the morning may lead to a sleepless night. Caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine, a neurotransmitter thought to promote sleep. Caffeine can also interrupt sleep by increasing the need to urinate during the night. Because caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches, irritability, and extreme fatigue, it may be easier to cut back gradually rather than to go cold turkey. Those who can’t or don’t want to give up caffeine should avoid it after 2 p.m., or noon if they are especially caffeine–sensitive. 2. Stop smoking or chewing tobacco: Nicotine is a central nervous system stimulant that can cause insomnia. If you continue to use tobacco, avoid smoking or chewing it for at least one to two hours before bedtime. 3. Limit alcohol intake: Alcohol depresses the nervous system, so a nightcap may seem to help some people fall asleep. Alcohol suppresses REM sleep, and the soporific effects disappear after a few hours. Alcohol also worsens snoring and other sleep breathing problems. 4. Worry and stress causes sleeplessness. Find out what hurts you and resolve the issue.

No Salt Please!

Master Of Science ( Home Science) , B.Sc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
No Salt Please!

It is estimated that 25% of people with normal blood pressure and about 60% of those with high blood pressure are salt sensitive, which means that as salt intake goes up so does blood pressure.

'salt to taste' as it reads in most recipes.... At times far exceeds the sodium requirements of our bodies, resulting in water retention, stress on our kidneys and bloating up. Not to mention the fact that if you are salt-sensitive then you may be at a much higher risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Apart from the salt that you add to your food, do you know the amount of stealth salt you are exposed to? the papads, the pickles and the farsan that you eat have excessive salt and so does any other packaged food that you may be consuming on a regular basis. A good idea is to read the labels of what you are buying.

Let us help you identify the stealth salt in your food...

  •     Use less, or no, salt in cooking or preparing dishes like salads, sauces and dips.
  •     Remove the table salt and any salt seasoning - such as lemon, pepper, garlic and onion salts.
  •     You should set aside the masala sachets that come with instant noodles, readymade soups, sauces etc.
  •     Don't use ready-made salad dressings.

The alternatives:
For additional flavour to your food, minus the excessive salt, keep a stock of fresh garlic, onion, ginger, parsley, coriander, and seasonings like, dry onion powder, dry mustard, nutmeg, black pepper and roasted cumin powder in your kitchen.

Remember: it's easier to cut down on sodium when you are on a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products.

Generally citrus fruits have a low pH, meaning they are acidic. Citrus and other acidic foods may contribute to symptoms in those with upper gastrointestinal issues like an ulcer or reflux.

Hi doctor, I am 33 years old, tall and slim. By look I am healthy, but for more than 12 years (as I could remember), I get affected by throat pain followed by cold and then fever which lasts for 4-8 days. And this repeats once in 2-3 months, rarely once in 6 months or once in a month also. I have consulted many doctors, its found I have sinus problem and nothing found beyond that. Please advice, based on your experience what might be the reason for this fever attack frequently, and what next steps to be taken by me.

Diploma in Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (D.O.R.L), M.B.B.S
ENT Specialist, Pune
Hi being tall & slim does not indicate that you are healthy. Try breathing exercises like pranayam, go for open air walks daily, improve your lifestyle. Besides that getting upper respiratory infections once in 2 to 3 months is not very dangerous unless you need to take antibiotics every time. If that is the case then you need a sinus ct scan ant treatment accordingly.
