Kindly get a dental check up done. There might be teeth erupting (permanent) or milk tooth shedding. Or a cavity in certain tooth. With gum coming out of the tooth. Kindly get it checked.

I have problem with bad breath from mouth and nose bad taste in mouth I also have tonsils and often get tonsil stones some times problem with stomach acidity.

BDS, MDS - Periodontics, Ph.D.

Bad breath or halitosis can be because of many reasons. It can be intraoral or extra oral. For intra-oral cause, get your teeth checked by a periodontist, and get them cleaned. Try to keep your mouth, gums, and tongue clean and your cavities filled.

Dear lybrate user, brushing twice daily with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, flossing, rinsing your mouth after every meal, eating foods rich in calcium like dairy products, avoiding sugary and sticky foods and most importantly visiting your dentist for routine dental checkup every 6 months are the simplest, easiest ways of keeping teeth healthy and avoiding decay.

I have heard that this problem can be overcome by arranging artificial teeth coverings(for only two teeth) but are they surely safe for me to go ?

I am 23 years old. My teeth are a little yellow. When I went to a free dental checkup he told there is no problem in your teeth and gums although he suggested to get a gum cleanup. I brush 2 times daily with coalgate advanced. I would appreciate any suggestion.

cleanup is usually advised every 6 months as there are certain areas of our mouth where the toothbrush cannot clean well. A cleanup will remove any accumulations on your teeth. This may not change the yellowness of your teeth if the internal shade of your tooth is yellowish. If you want to change the shade of your tooth, you may need to go for dental whitening.

Scaling and Polishing for Healthy Teeth

BDS, CDE Endo-Prostho, CDE - Cast Partial & Complete Dentures

Scaling and Polishing for Healthy Teeth

What is scaling?
Over time, even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque (sticky, soft, bacteria infected layer) and tartar (calcium) deposits build up on your teeth. Scaling removes the tartar and plaque with specialised equipment. Scaling effectively cleans up your teeth by using ultrasound to loosen the tartar and then using tools to scrape it off from the surface of the tooth.

What is polishing?
Polishing is done to remove excess plaque and remove stains. Scaling is always followed by polishing. Polishing also smoothes and shines the teeth to prevent plaque from building up again. It is either done by foam or fluoride gel treatment to reduce the possibility of tooth decay and sensitivity.

Why are they done?
Scaling and polishing are not only done for cosmetic reasons; they are also done for overall oral health. Excessive plaque and tartar buildup will eventually lead to the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive and multiply. The ultimate purpose of polishing and scaling is to clean the surface of the teeth so that the bacteria cannot attach to them and cause serious oral problems (such as gum disease). Also, scaling and polishing offer far better cleaning of your teeth than everyday brushing and flossing.

However, scaling and polishing is not a curative treatment. If your teeth have been damaged by cavities or other oral diseases, you need medical attention.

In fact, professionally, this treatment is called prophylactic treatment; and the word ‘prophylactic’ comes from prophylaxis, which is Greek for ‘to prevent disease’. Thus scaling and polishing is more of a preventive measure than a cure.

Do they hurt?
This process is essentially painless. Most of the people who undergo this treatment usually have the following experiences:

  1. Tickling sensation
  2. Coolness from the water used to clean the mouth
  3. Pressure during the scraping process (The dentist uses specialised tools to “scrape” the tartar deposits off the tooth’s surface). If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

What is the causes for bad breath? How can we prevent bad breath?(After brushing twice a day. Then also bad breath coming)

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Treating and preventing bad breath Treatment for bad breath (halitosis) will depend on its cause. Usually, the most effective treatment is improving your dental hygiene. As part of your daily routine, you should: floss between your teeth brush your teeth and gums clean your tongue You may want to consider investing in an electric toothbrush, which can make cleaning easier and more effective. Cleaning your teeth Your dentist will probably recommend that you brush your teeth at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste. Below are some tips on how to brush your teeth and keep your mouth healthy. You should: use dental floss to clean between your teeth and remove trapped food that could cause tooth decay – brushing on its own only cleans about 60% of the tooth's surface choose a small or medium-sized toothbrush with soft, multi-tufted synthetic bristles replace your toothbrush every three to four months brush your teeth for at least two minutes – you could keep a toothbrush at work or school so you can brush your teeth after lunch brush all areas of your teeth, paying particular attention to where your teeth and gums meet – your dentist or oral hygienist may recommend using a special single-tufted brush for specific problem areas of your mouth use a separate toothbrush or a tongue scraper to lightly brush your tongue – some toothbrushes have a tongue cleaner on the back of the brush head avoid brushing your teeth for 30 minutes after drinking an acidic drink, such as fruit juice, or eating acidic fruit, such as oranges, to help prevent tooth abrasion Your dentist may recommend that you rinse your mouth daily using an antibacterial or anti-odour mouthwash. This shouldn't replace brushing, but can be included as part of your daily routine. Cleaning dentures If you wear dentures, you should take them out at night to give your mouth a chance to rest. Clean your dentures thoroughly before putting them in the next morning: don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures as it can scratch the surface and cause stains clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream, or a denture-cleaning tablet use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures Your dentures should stay clean and fresh if you follow this routine. It will also help prevent the build-up of plaque, which can cause bad breath. Fresh breath tips To help keep your breath fresh, you should: give up smoking eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food cut down on sugary food and drink as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth reduce your alcohol consumption cut down on coffee drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry chew sugar-free gum after eating to stimulate the flow of saliva – this will help clean away any remaining food particles You should visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure any plaque and calculus – previously known as tartar – is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. Gastrointestinal problems Bad breath can be caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD). You may be referred to a gastroenterologist. The treatment recommended will depend on the type of gastrointestinal condition you have. For example, if you have a stomach ulcer, you may need a combination of two or three different antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). This is known as eradication therapy.

Flap raising can be done, this is happening because of gum infections take an opg x-ray and check for the bone loss and advise for a flap surgery and placing bone graft . If left untreated tht can cause mobility of teeth and ends up in tooth loss

Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation injection glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.
