I am suffering from chest pain usually from left side of my chest. When I breath in I feel relaxed and when I breath out I feel pained.

Chest pain whether, right or left sided, especially when it is associated with chest or arm movement and when it is increased with breathing is rarely due to heart disease. The chest heaviness which makes you breathless is due to heart but the chest pain that builds on due to breathing is due lungs. Being breathless is like being suffocated but it doesn't pain on breathing. The description that you are providing point towards lung pathology and hence it is advisable to first get a chest x ray done. It could be a minor infection of the lung or something serious. But either ways, you need to know more by a x ray.

Hi there. Dry cough and chest pain which increases on coughing and sneezing warrants a chest x ray as symptoms suggest pleuritic chest pain (pain due to lung conditions) to rule out any lung conditions. Please upload your xray and may be I cud help you with that. If severe please see a physician. Take care.

I visited a cardiologist when my wife had little pain in the upper left side of her body. He advised ecg, and after I showed him the report, he told that it was an initial stage of blocking in one of her valves. He prescribed some medicines for 15 days. Now my wife is alright, having no pain. The doctor told that she didn't need further medicines and prescribed two medicines for her blood pressure and advised non-oily and non-fatty food to her. My wife is 40 years old. Her height is 5f 4i and weight is around 65 kg. I want to know whether the blockage in the valve could be treated through medicines at initial stage? does she need further check-up?

Diploma in Family Medicine, Fellowship in Diabetology, Diploma in Diabetology, FCCP, MBBS
General Physician,
1. Keep her weight under control 2. Avoid non oily non fatty foods. 3. Check her blood pressure, lipid profile, blood sugar, periodically, 4. Walking for 45 minutes per day. 5. Ecg, echo, once in 6 months and tread mill test once a year to assess the heart condition regularly you can prevent further blockage and improvement in the present blockage.

There are two parts to the pumping action of the heart. The first part is called diastole, when blood collects in the lower heart chambers (right and left ventricles) as it is pushed through the tricuspid and mitral valves. Once the ventricles are filled with blood, the second part of the pumping action begins. The ventricles contract and blood is pushed from the right ventricle into the pulmonary artery and from the left ventricle into the aortic valves. This part is called systole. Diastolic dysfunction refers to when the diastole part of this action is abnormal. The ventricles do not properly relax and become stiff meaning they cannot fill with blood properly. The main causes of diastolic dysfunction are: Chronic hypertension Coronary heart disease Aging Aortic stenosis – the narrowing of a heart valve Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy – thickened and stiffness in walls of the heart Restrictive cardiomyopathy – where scars or deposits have led to stiff heart muscles your doctor will find out the cause.

You are right that acidity can be confused with heart pain. Good to know that all tests related to heart are normal but anxiety of heart disease is bothering you. Why not. Even doctors are teaching people to bring in modifications in lifestyle and reducing stress and anxiety is one of the changes plus good food habits so that you don't suffer from acidity. You have to remind yourself everyday that there should be no heart related stress and you are lucky to have normal reports.

Have you ruled out heart conditions? Then get treated for hiatus hernia and gastritis. Reduce stress, sleep well, work less. You probably need the change in lifestyle.

Dear sir, your BP seems to be uncontrolled with your current medicine. Apart from increasing the dose or adding another one you need do follow strict diet and exercise which should be at least half an hour of walking. Please avoid added salt and salt rich foods. Do yoga/ relaxation, sleep adequately and avoid stress and anxiety. I hope you have checked your cholesterol, blood sugar and renal function and they are fine. Hope you to do well with my advice.
